Lai Yard in Beijing
Located in a Southern Hutong of Beijing, this hidden residential gem is brought back to life by chinese practice Ming Gu Design. For hundreds of years, the ‘Lai Yard’ has stood in the alley and near the ancient city wall — listed as a protected building that needs restoration. at the north of the original house, two-pseudo architectures have been built to create three enclosed courtyards interwoven with an intimate group of trees. Objectively speaking, the studio has witnessed unsophisticated and archaic site conditions that do not reflect the ancients’ works. regardless, the residence still reflects the memory and desire for traditions by today’s community.

The Art of Jill Soukup
Jill Soukup was born in Buffalo, New York. Shortly thereafter, her family moved to Colorado, where she still resides. Jill’s affinity for horses as a young girl resulted in countless drawings and studies of them, which made for a strong drawing foundation. As a teen, she started a pet-portrait business, acquired jobs painting murals, and designed logos for local organizations. She graduated from Colorado State University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Fine Art. There, she received awards for illustration and design and worked as an illustrator and designer for the university.
She initially pursued a career in graphic design while continuing to paint part time. After 11 years as a designer, she made the switch to full-time painting. Her work continues to gain recognition as she receives awards, appears in national publications, and shows in important juried and one-woman exhibitions.

Day to Night
With his Couleurs Separées project, the Canadian photographer Carl-Antonyn Dufault, based in Montreal, is assembling together in the same photograph day and night, but also summer and winter, creating amazing and contrasting temporal windows.
Special mention to the image below, and urban park in Montreal in front of the CHUM construction site that I walked by everyday on the walk to the office.

Paper flowers
Designer Haruka Misawa creates beautiful flowers out sharper shavings. Printing paper with a colour gradation, she tightly wraps it in a pencil-like shape so the flowers blossom outward when scraped against the shaver.

Stacked Timber Unit
Antwerp-based practice Studio Farris Architects has transformed a small barn in Flanders, Belgium into an office that features a meeting room, library, and desks. the building’s original façade was restored, before new openings were created to bring daylight inside the former stable. an updated interior has been fitted within the original volume, consisting of a shell that accentuates the structure’s pure form. this method both improves energy efficiency and avoids any chemical reactions with sulphates in the ground, or the original walls.
