i respect Niragi for one thing and one thing alone: when he went to a hospital where there are tons of bandages and stuff to actually help him and he still chose to use his own shirt as a bandage for no other reason other than the aesthetic. and he gets high off morphine while there like what is his deal😭

I think one of the reasons I like Arisu so much is because his change is so obvious (in the manga).
Certain characters didn’t need to change (Kuina, Usagi, Tatta, etc you’re all fine as you are) but they did anyways and only got better. Arisu in the show is fine yk. He’s cool.
He’s this awkward kid that burnt out too fast and doesn’t know anything other than games. Which is kind of in the manga (except instead of games it’s a guitar). But I really saw Arisu’s background both in the flashbacks and in the way it affects him in the borderlands. Because Arisu is kind, gentle, and trusting but that doesn’t erase the selfish, temperamental, and (when younger) perverted.
The manga had moments where I wanted to smack Arisu up his head but that’s normal for me. The show has a constant streak of not doing aib characters justice and Arisu (weirdly enough since he’s the main character) is one of them. But I’m not surprised.

"go to hell." basic. weaksauce shit. "i hope that character you really like gets an uber-popular yaoi ship and you have to watch in real time as they get sanded down into a toothless, barely-recognizable version of themself that's become little more than a vessel for bland tropes and OOC fluff, and that's just the permanent fandom consensus view of that character now." now THAT'S a threat. that cuts right to the bone. that's real. that's happening to me as we speak.

Haven't had any aib takes recently I feel so empty. I fear I may have to make more memes to fill this analysis-shaped hole in my heart

male characters can do the most vile abusive shit but then if they do one good thing (or just choose to be neutral instead of evil one time) people call it a redemption arc and suddenly they’re morally grey and Nuanced. this is just like real life actually
#niragi when bullying flashback#or fucking. adap chishiya#rahhhhhh#fuck them both#''i hate niragi but he's well written'' fuck off actually#his manga persona is well written#unfortunately his tv show version is a pathetic loser hateful evil bitch#everyobe who says his adap is well written is dumb and stupid and mistaking poor directors choices and a hot actor for a good character#I will stand by this#just because he was bullied doesn't give him the right to be a fucking monster#AND he had zero depth in the show#took away his diamond player qualities and everything smart about him and made him a one dimensional villain#and people still say he's complex 💔#while hating heiya#and shibuki#argggggg#rant over sorry guys

On another note, one thing I like about Arisu is his ability to get into the minds of others.
I wish we got a glimpse more into the idea of Chishiya and Arisu’s friendship. There’s these small fractures that leave room for potential.
For me, it’s the idea of Chishiya constantly testing Arisu. Chishiya has stated and shown that he has no interest in life whether it be his own or others. And Arisu couldn’t give less of a damn about Chishiya. The only way he could is if he were the only person he knows in a game of hearts or diamonds (and even then it’s unwillingly).
Chishiya would constantly pick apart at Arisu’s mental and emotional state. He’d prod at his psychological issues and he’d have fun playing Whac-A-Mole with Arisu’s buttons/triggers. And it would take Arisu a while to catch up but once he does, he’d switch.
He’d force himself to get into the mind of Chishiya. To be as cold and merciless as him. As uncaring as him, even if he has to play with the life of others because Arisu both wants to live and doesn’t want to be one-upped. He’s wouldn’t feel the crushing guilt and weight of their deaths until he switches back to himself (almost like it’s a personality disorder). And Chishiya would hate it. He would hate looking into his mirror. He would despise Arisu and he would despise himself more for feeling this.
Arisu and Chishiya never had the opportunity to go against each other like this. I have no doubt Chishiya would win if it’s in a game with only one winner. But games like Solitary Confinement or Witch Hunt (where you can have multiple winners because you have to get one person out to win) would be perfect for these two.
Chishiya at the end of the day (when he took a bullet for Usagi) wants someone to understand him. Chishiya sees himself in Niragi because they believe they can never change. That their bad habits and selfish morala are end all. That it’s the only thing to define themselves with. Chishiya sees himself as this empty shell because of the lack of emotional support or care from his environment. His parents never thought to look at him. No one did. No one thought to look at Chishiya and understand him. Paint all his faults, his selfish ideals, his cruel nature, and still admire him the way people admire the Mona Lisa (which is a weird way to connect things but for him its perfect—he loves the Mona Lisa).
Chishiya’s environment only further hardens his walls when he pursues his medical license (more in the show than in the manga but it’s interesting to combine the two).
To me, Chishiya is pathetic. He’s the most cruelest form of a man. A man with no hope, no goals, or no desires. He cares for no one but himself, only acts for others when he knows it will benefit him either now or in the future, and views humans as pawns.
Although maybe that’s why I imagine only someone like Arisu could make him have even the barest hints of life. Or turn him into an adrenaline junkie. Some people who feel nothing seek the thrill of emotions, of adrenaline, and such. Chishiya seems like the type to go on a roller coaster ride for the first time and then decides he wants to go bungee jumping or sky diving.
#this is so well said in every way#chishiya sees arisu as the thing that reminds him of being human#hes incapable of caring himself but arisu will always prove his cynicism wrong#can't agree more with all of this#also prev tags are so real I see why show watchers ship them#and although I love throwing canon out the window to enjoy fan content#in reality these 2 would never be more than insane obsession over each other's mindsets#whether that leads to hate sex is up to you#Alice in borderland

#nooticing how Chishiya and Niragi love to adultify Usagi to justify their terrible actions toward her while infantilizing Arisu bc they see themselves as children, and see more of themselves in Arisu than Usagi, despite Usagi being similar to all three of them, but since shes a woman, they literally cannot see themselves in her the way they do Arisu.
#prev tags say it all#yesyesyesyes#Chishiya's evil. they're both bad people.#that's the point.#thank you op
