family life — TASK NO. ONE
Greg Knight (father - 52), Rebecca Knight (Step-Mother - 40), Jakob “Jake” Knight (Half-Brother - 16), Theodore “Teddy” Knight (Half-Brother - 14), Mayra Knight (Half-Sister - 13), and Louisa Knight (Half-Sibling - 10)
Growing up Finn had a happy childhood despite never knowing his mother. His father did know about magic but didn’t really talk about it until Finn started to show signs of being magically gifted. Though talk about his mother was still off the table, he found out that she was of a magician background. When his father got remarried he was happy, but he secretly hoped that he was going to be able to learn more about his mother and her past. As the years went by, he found out little bits and pieces about his mother. She was a decent magician but had a habit of using her skills for her own personal gain. She had left Finn and his father in pursuit of more knowledge and power. Finn, taking after his father rather than his mother, preferred to help others. In high school, he was the type of person who stood up for the weaker kids, and even though he got in trouble with the school his father never really scolded him for it.
The knight family focused on helping others. His father, who is a pediatrician, would often gather the family to volunteer wherever they could. His step-mother, a teacher, started programs to help those who thought they had no future. His younger siblings all did their part as well, though none really taking it as far as Finn sometimes did. Out of all his siblings, he is closest to Jake. Though they are almost ten years apart, Finn can say with certainty that he is his best friend. Because his father is a little apprehensive towards magic his family, with the exception of Jake, do not know that he is attending BrakeBills. When he first started at BrakeBills, he wanted to try and find out all that he could about his mother. However, all he found out is that she was of the Natural Magic Discipline, and had a knack for causing trouble.

…He even enjoyed Disney movies. That alone was worth something. She quickly shelved the book, deciding to be patient and wait another couple of days for it to arrive in the mail. She had found a fantastic distraction in the man walking in step with her, and she gasped at his question. “I…Why that’s an impossible question. I have favorite disney films in different categories, but all of that’s debatable even then. My favorite disney princess film is The Princess and the Frog hands down. My favorite Pixar film is either Toy Story or Inside Out…I also really enjoy Who Framed Roger Rabbit and Mary Poppins. I enjoy them all in terms of the classics. I just can’t stand The Little Mermaid for the most part or The Black Cauldron. What about you?” The blonde kept in stride easily with Finn, grinning from ear to ear as they continued to walk. “Also, I’m keeping it to animated or mostly animated films; it simply isn’t fair if we bring Marvel and Lucasfilm into the mix.”
“What? The Black Cauldron is a classic,” he teased. “As for the little mermaid, I admit I had a huge crush on her as a kid. Not totally happy that she went through all that for some guy she only met...but I suppose I could understand it. Love is a crazy thing, and she was just a kid. Still, not a smart choice to sell your soul to a Sea Witch.” he said. “When you have a whole number that talks about using body language to get a guy I gotta say pass. Hmm,” he said thinking. “I loved The Princess Frog. They were such a cute couple, and I do like a strong woman. So I’ll agree on that one. I was in LOVE with Mary. I wanted to grow up and be a chimney sweeper. Plus, she was magic. Pixar...I’m going to have to say Up. So, so, much pain and happiness in the beginning. I’m glad he finally let someone else into his heart. Though...it did kinda bum me out when I realized that they’d probably only have a few years together.” If it had been with anyone else Finn would have probably had to explain the grandfather/grandson relationship, but he was sure that Eve knew where he was coming from. “And Lilo and Stitch. I know, most people’s go to, but I just wish I had a cute blue alien best friend,” he said with a laugh. Finn felt comfortable with Eve, someone he could see being with. However, he didn’t want to rush or presume things. At the very least he was sure he had found a close friend.

“Really? Oh gosh, I could go on about this all day. It pale sin comparison to my passion for Disneyana. That’s my bread, butter, and oxygen right there.” she giggled, biting her lip as she tried not to grin like an idiot. Eve had always had this chronic ability to never land a date, no matter what was happening in her life. It was usually either the guy or extenuating circumstances, but things never seemed to work out. She wasn’t going to immediately call this a date, as that would be terribly presumptuous. She’d only just met the guy. His last statement caused a quirk of the brow from Eve, and she responded playfully, “Oh come on, being a Brony isn’t something to be ashamed of.” Shaking her head, she stifled a giggle and motioned for him to lead the way. “Only kidding, of course, though that cup of coffee does sound lovely.”
Finn wasn’t one to shy away from admitting things he loved, though some of his friends did give him a hard time about it. “Disney has a lot of good films, and they are really stepping it up with their positive messages. I cry at least once whenever I watch a Disney Film,” he admitted with a chuckle. Finn, a guy who was friendly, never really was interested in anyone. Sure he’d find them attractive, but no one really caught his eye so to speak. Her playful remark only made him more fond of her. “Oh no, I’d never be ashamed of being a Brony. I’m glad we got that out of the way.” He gathered his things and started to walk towards the exit, walking in stride with her. “So what is your all time favorite Disney movie?” he asked.

“No, no, there’s no one I would want to cast such a spell on. Having someone think they love you but you knowing it’s not true… I would never want that on anyone.”
Finn, though he agreed with her words, was still very interested in trying it out. “I suppose you are right. That is no way to live. A lot of people do that to themselves without the help of magic. Still...” he said with a soft smile, “it is a very interesting subject - love spells.”

All Eve could do was stand there stunned as Finn began to talk, completely floored that someone was even interested in what she had to say. Her interest in film, particularly in the Disney canon, had always been a nothing more than a tertiary interest, taking a back seat to her main objective to become a proper magician. Yet, here she stood with a startlingly handsome man taking her words seriously. “Oh, you mean like a database? I understand what you mean now. A curious notion that was brought up in the video I watched was the idea that the people of Weimer-era Germany sort of dreamt up these horrible monsters that would soon take power in Germany. Your Doctor Caligaris, Doctor Mabuse’s, and so on were all dreamt up and consumed heavily by the German people. They willingly went to see films that had such horrible monsters in them, and they seemed to only live in that fictitious world. Much the same has happened recently, particularly when you look at the highest grossing films from the past eight years. It’s incredibly fascinating and-” Realizing that she’d started rambling, she instantly cut herself off, her cheeks now blooming red as she cast her gaze downward. “Sorry, I just get excited about things like this…”
He couldn’t help but smile at her level of interest for the subject. Finn thought the world of people who had passion. “No, no, don’t be sorry. I’d love to hear more,” he said. He softly cleared his throat. “We could go and get coffee or something and talk more. I actually know this pretty good spot outside of the campus if you are interested.” He looked down a moment, nervous once again as he awaited her response. “I honestly love it when people are excited about things. It shows they are alive, not afraid to love. Which, is hard to find since a lot of people are ok with being a bit stagnate in that area. I have something I get excited about,” he paused looking around a bit before talking once more, “but it’s a secret.” Finn didn’t mean to sound ominous, but he didn’t want to risk others overhearing that his real passion was battle magic.

He chuckled when he saw the red taint coloring the first year’s cheeks “I started that rumor, darling” He said after turning to look at Finn, winking at him “Why do you think the librarian is only letting me in this year?”
Finn laughed. “What? Really? Wow, I am impressed,” he said with a genuine smile. Finn could never do anything like that, he’d get too mixed up in whether or not it made sense. “Some people have all the luck,” he teased playfully. “I tried to start a rumor that you could learn the contents of a book if you read it...but I think that was very paper thin and well, involved reading.” He laughed.

“Oh it’s alright! I try not to really be noticed that much, anyways. Never really been my thing.” she insisted, not wanting him to feel bad or anything. His grinning was causing her cheeks to flush as pink as her blouse. “I’m Eve, and I definitely appreciate the offer, Finn. I might have to take you up on that.” she relented with a chuckle. When he moved a bit closer to her, she swallowed thickly, her hand shaking slightly as she showed him the book. “Numbers? How do you mean?”
“Everyone should be noticed,” He said with a soft smile. Finn was the person who always went out of his way to talk to everyone; to make them feel welcome. His skills, for the most part, came naturally but he put in the sweat and effort needed to take it to the next level. He noticed her cheeks turn pink, and smiled to himself. Usually, he didn’t pay much attention to things like that. However, she was adorable to him. Not in theI want to be you best friend but I could be captivated by you sort of way. “There is this site that compiles data from newspapers, the internet, and things like that. You can type in a topic and see how popular it is at a certain time. During World War II there was very little Media, Art, Music from people who were Jewish or who publicly went against Hitler. That part makes sense, but if you just look at the numbers - without knowing all the facts - it seems like there were only certain people who were popular in Germany at the time. It just reminds me that knowledge, data, things like that can be misleading. You must get all the facts before presuming anything.”
#tw: hitler#// I thought this was SO interesting#if you just looked at the data that is 100% what it looked like#Thankfully we knew why w/o the prof letting us know

“O-Oh, I’m definitely a first year. First year healing, a-actually.” she explained, fiddling with the hem of her shirt for a moment, bright white teeth ensnaring her pink lower lip anxiously. This guy was clearly older than her, and she certainly didn’t wanna mess up talking to him. His question caused her to actually tear her gaze away from his chiseled face, back to the shelf where she’d been looking. “I was looking for….Ah! Here it is.” she stated proudly, standing on her tippy toes and pulling out an old volume. “It’s called From Caligari to Hitler: A Psychological History of German Film. I, erm, I watched a YouTube video talking about it and it sounded fascinating, so I thought I’d try and find it here.” Great, now he was going to think she was a complete psychopath.
He gave her a toothy grin. “Ah I knew it! For a second I was worried that I wasn’t paying attention to my surroundings. Well it is nice to meet you, and if you have any questions I’m more than willing to help. I’m Finn by the way.” His eyes flashed to her lips for a moment then followed her gaze to the books. “There is nothing I love more than independent learning,” he complimented. “I agree, it is a very interesting subject, but I tend to think that about most things.” He moved a bit closer to get a better look at the book. “Have you looked at the numbers for the subject matter released during that time period?”

The grin that appeared on the male’s face was infectious, as Eve found herself grinning like an idiot, casting her gaze to the floor. When she was able to look up, his words brought her to nod in empathy. “Yeah, I can understand that. I was coming to look for a book myself to distract from my own studies…” she trailed off, unsure of what to say from there.
“Oh really?” He asked looking at where she was getting books. “What book are you looking for?” He looked at her, “Are you a first year, or have I just been completely oblivious?” he asked. He was sure he hadn’t seen her around before now. He shifted his weight, a little nervous that she’d say she was in a different year.

He has been watching the other person for quite a while. it wasn’t that he didn’t cared about studying, don’t get him wrong he really did but….not like that “If you think eating that book is going to help you’re greatly mistaken”
Finn tried not to laugh when he saw the first year attempt to eat a page out of the book. “Awe don’t worry, I was fooled by that rumor too when I first started,” he said with a smile. He hadn’t, but he wanted to make the first year feel a little less embarrassed. He turned to Julian, “Did they have that rumor in you year? Gosh I remember the librarian got so mad.” he laughed.

Micah hummed quietly to himself as he picked up a couple books. He sighed a little when he tried to find an empty seat in a more secluded area. Micah looked towards the other and returned the smile. “Hey, sorry. Did I disturb you?”
Finn lightly shook his head and said, “No, it’s more of the I can’t focus right now so let me talk to someone because I think I’m reading something in a different language.“ He chuckled softly. Yes, Finn loved learning and was able to grasp complicated subject with ease, but when he was distracted he was as much use as a potato. “What are you reading?” he asked.

Eve had been roaming the film section of the library, pale fingers dancing across the weathered spines until she reached the K section, where she stopped and focused intently on finding a specific volume. Her attention was broken, however, by a handsome man who’d spoken to her. “Oh, uh, h-hi! I’m sorry, did I disturb you?”
“No, I’m actually,” He paused a moment allowing a mischievous smile to appear on his face, “I’m looking for a distraction.” He looked around as if he was going to tell her very sensitive information. He lowered his voice and said, “I’m actually finding it hard to focus.” The Fifth year Knowledge student did not avoid human interactions like most of his other discipline peers.
#ikr!! I just love his smile!! I literally always have a smile when I do his threads bc so handsome#hehe

Finn was nestled into a corner of the library doodling in the margin of his notebook. Normally Finn was focused, however, today he found it very hard to focus. He looked up and gave a wide smile. “Oh hey.”
