do y'all ever think about the fact that bobby is literally chris' grandpa? like yeah, bobby is a father figure to buck. but buck is also chris' second dad.
that's a dynamic i am reminded of whenever i see eddie and bobby interact outside of the fire station and it's a dynamic that should be explored more overall.
Something that drives me absolutely completely wild about the grocery store fight, and Eddie's whole reaction to the lawsuit really, is that everything comes down to the fact that Eddie misses Buck but doesn't know what to do about it. Dude so got used to Buck imprinted on him like a baby duck that he had no idea how to cope when he needed help and Buck wasn't there to offer it before he had to ask. It drives me CRAZY the way he brings up Christopher so he wouldn't have to say he misses Buck because at the end of the day Buck doesn't really have a responsibility to Chris or Eddie. He cares about them both a lot but he doesn't have to think about them when making decisions about his life. And Eddie is so used to being a priority for Buck he had no clue how to act without him and that's so wild. Buck is impulsive and he goes straight to worst case scenarios and he doesn't always thinks things through but Buck is also the furthest thing from selfish you can get but Eddie can't handle that Buck didn't consider him while deciding something. And add that to the way that Eddie probably found out about the lawsuit and that he couldn't talk to Buck during morning briefing before he got a subpoena about it. Dude was just completely thrown off balance and that's fascinating. The abandonment issues really popped off there.
sorry still laughing at eddie walking into a clearly intimate, date style restaurant, seeing tommy and buck sitting there without anybody else, one check that tommy paid, and coming to the conclusion that buck and tommy were "hanging out with the boys" edmundo you are so stupid and so gay no wonder he has never once questioned his relationship with buck. was putting buck in your will just a dudebro thing, too? was trying to haul his dead, limp body towards you and then yelling at the doctors to do more just a casual interaction between guys? does raising a kid with him, home cooked meals, school bake sale cookies, and homework help, like...count as "hanging out with the boys" because you, buck, and chris are all guys? eddie fr just assumes everyone else also said no homo in their minds and goes into the most tender, in love, gay situations imaginable without even stopping for a second to question or understand his feelings and actions. gay people are so stupid god bless.
Imagine you're at your wedding dressed to the absolute nuptial nines ready to marry your man, the love of your life, and your dumbass brother and his dumbass best friend wander in dressed as Crockpot and Grubbs hungover as fuck and have the nerve to be like "lol don't freak out!!! But we did lose ur fiance thoš¤Ŗhaha wellll it's complicated š¤Ŗ" like id tie an anvil to their ankles and drop them in the ocean fr. get out of here with that.
funniest character dynamic in the world to me is when you have one guy knows hes gay but doesnt realise hes in love with his best friend and another guy who knows hes in love with his best friend but does not know hes gay
Christopher: watches his dad make a new friend. šHangs out with new friend decides he's kinda cool.š Gets left with dad's gf all the time while Dad is off with new friend.š Hangs out with Buck while Dad is with new friend. šWatches Buck spiral about dad's new friend. šDad comes home injured after hanging out with Buck and new friend.š¦ Buck is involved in the injury somehow? šAnd is now not visiting. š Dad asks gf to move in. š«Ø
Christopher: I cannot deal with this I'm fleeing the state.
Eddie always shouts Buck's name now because the last time he shouted more than 8 times Buck didn't respond because he was dead so he is always extremely excited to call out to Buck because Buck will respond. Someone needs to sedate me.
Bobby: Ah, yes. Here we have a beautiful friendship...
Hen: I really care about your feelings!
Chimney: I really care about YOUR feelings!
Bobby, turning their head: ...and then there's the disaster āfriendshipā...
Buck: YOU NEED TO PAY MORE ATTENTION TO ME INSTEAD OF BEING AT THE HOSPITAL!
Eddie: I WOULDN'T HAVE TO SPEND SO MUCH TIME AT THE HOSPITAL IF YOU STOPPED INSISTING ON CONSTANTLY SACRIFICING YOURSELF FOR āTHE GOOD OF THE TEAMā!
I donāt think Eddie wanted to be alone in his house.
Hear me out. Eddie is still recovering from severe mental illness. Sure heās a lot happier now but heās not magically fixed.
First heās spending all this time with Tommy and all of a sudden his best friend is injuring him in a fit of jealousy so Eddie pulls back.
So now Christopher is āout of townā and heās alone in an empty quiet house.
Too empty. Too quiet. His thoughts are too loud again.
Heād normally ask Buck to come over but heās still being cautious there. He canāt ask Tommy because he doesnāt want anymore issues with Buck.
So he impulsively asks Marisol to move in. If sheās living there he wonāt be alone with his thoughts. Then the whole nun thing becomes a distraction because now all he can think about is his catholic guilt but at least his survivors guilt has been silenced again.
So now heās back to level headed reasonable Eddie who doesnāt need someone he hardly knows living in his house.
I don't think we've talked enough about Buck and those pick up games and how "Eddie keeps asking me to go." Because Eddie knows Buck doesn't like basketball, and Eddie doesn't push Buck, ever. He is patient and he waits and he doesn't push.
But the rituals, they are intricate.
Eddie just wants to be with Buck, to play with him, to touch and be touched by him. And this silly pick up game is a way for Eddie to get something he can't allow himself to ask for.
