just watched a video about how apparently pacing and tone aren't real things to worry about in writing and just kinda gobsmacked. i literally just this week realized i needed to add an interlude between two levels because the emotional exhaustion of going through two intense chapters in a row was just too damn much. you are not going to tell me tone isn't real

i'm realizing yamazaki's work on the ace attorney series has the michael bay problem, where every moment is intense so very few of them have a chance to stand out. i used to say that takumi knows better how to make memorable moments, but i feel like the contrast is the big thing there. i would describe aai2 as peak, but i would not call it the best by any stretch. i would say that the aai games and the 3ds mainlines do a general moment of making every moment feel better, but that's just it, if *every* moment is super cool, none of them are

Left: in New Super Mario Bros. U/Deluxe, Yoshi activates Donut Blocks by standing on them, causing them to turn red and subsequently fall.

Right: in the New Super Mario Bros. U game style of Super Mario Maker 2, however, Yoshi does not activate Donut Blocks, and can stand on them indefinitely. Of course, if the player is riding Yoshi, the blocks are activated as usual.

There are two ways of interpreting this: if the Donut Blocks are taken to be weight-activated, then this suggests Yoshi lost weight between these two appearances. If instead the internal logic is taken into account whereby enemies do not usually activate Donut Blocks, but player characters do, this suggests that Yoshi is now an enemy.

as someone who posts both personality tests on uquiz and video games on itch.io, i can pretty confidently say that uquiz is much more consistently rewarding than itch.

i can see how many people download my games every week, it's generally a higher frequency than the people who take my uquizzes. but in terms of like, feedback, comments, reviews, i get them on uquiz once a month, and on itch once a year. i have no idea what any of the people who play my games actually think of them, and it makes the experience of checking my itch page honestly suck. with uquiz though, i get to actually connect with a person, however superficially. and that, to me, is more important than any number on a graph.

i bought the hundred line, that tactics rpg by the danganronpa/zero escape people. i am baffled why this game exists, as both a zero escape and tactics fan, but if there is any time to support it, it's now while the company's at risk of going underwater
