the truth was butters dressed up more often that not. in various things, all so he could pretend that he wasn’t who he really was. there wasn’t sadness linked to it, he just got sick of being plain ol’ butters sometimes. he saw nothing wrong with sometimes still pretending to be a girl and being marjorine. it let his imagination come true, but without all the  responsibilitys he’d have if things were really that way.
