Hey, gw2 community. Just here to say you're the absolute best. I've been around for a hot second and for that time I've been able to see that you are one amazing group of people and that's for many things; for one, the amount of creativity here is astounding and so good to see, but primarily I wanna say that you are all so welcoming and friendly and a cozy space to be in. And I appreciate that very much.
I'm also kissing each of you on the forehead

hiii so i decided to make a post about the seers! the lore behind the game is really complex and hard to wrap your mind around, so ive been endeavoring to try and help my friends all comprehend it. so this is a post both for them and for anyone else to be able to enjoy.
below the cut. this ones LONG
okay so to start from the beginning here, in gw1 the seers were known to be an ANCIENT race of people that had built civilizations in tyria. the seers, in an interview with bobby stein, are implied to be an extinct/endangered species because they don't have any methods of reproduction due to their lack of gender presentation. so when referring to isgarren, any pronouns have been useful. (evennia referred to a seer as a she) after the seers lost their long war with the mursaat, their civilization was destroyed and their people scattered. this is existing gw1 lore that we've had access to for decades, so there's nothing new about it here. in an interview with ree soesbee, lead writer for arenanet at the time, said;
"I can say that they are one of the oldest races of Tyria, dating back long before the Gods brought the humans to the world; to the time of the writing of the Tome of Rubicon. In those ancient days, the Seers fought against the mursaat, but they were in turn defeated by their enemies, and their civilization lost to the ravages of time."
moving on from the origin of their civilization, there are some magical aspects to them that have been shown/discussed in gw1. seers were capable of infusing your armor against the effects of spectral agony. so far, the only person to have ever been capable of wielding a type of spectral agony has been saul d'alessio, during the rise of the white mantle bonus mission pack (playable)
infusions couldn't be wantonly applied to armor, you had to use the guts of an ancient and nearly extinct species of monster. spectral essence, the item needed for infusion, could only be harvested from the eidolon. the origin or manner of this species is unknown, but the use of its guts for spectral essence leads me to believe that it is directly related to the mursaat. eidolons are mentioned to be constantly hunting for loose magic/arcane energy.
youve read some mention of the tome of the rubicon here, and thats because its a really important book. you come across said book in eye of the north. its a book written by the great dwarf (the dwarven god) written at anvil rock. the great dwarf fought with the great destroyer and sealed its name in the tome of the rubicon, rendering it dormant until the day the tome prophesized the dwarves fighting the great destroyer in battle. this, coupled with what we've seen mentioned in game before, names dwarves as one of the ancient races of tyria that isgarren is quoted as allying with to end the dragons. after being forged by the great collective thought that is the great dwarf, the dwarves would have more history than anyone else on the seers given that theyre just as old. the defeat of the titans seemed to have been very beneficial to the seers, given that the ancient seer asks you to take down the armageddon lords that spawn from portals summoned by vizhier khilbron. (more on that later)
moving onto gw2 sources, isgarren discusses his doubt that he's the last living seers left within the bounds of tyria. in the book seer curses and rituals found in the tower after the meta, there's more detail about this.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
this is very interesting! for years i'd just easily assumed that there would be only a handful of living seers (one of their corpses was being experimented on by an asura a long time ago) that would have slowly been picked off by unnatural causes. there may be seers that are hidden among the people, given isgarrens often addressed affinity for disguising himself. not only has he in different texts been described as changing form, but so can mabon.
Tumblr media
this fact alone makes some very interesting people very suspect to scrutiny. the woman who told shiro about his fortune, for example, could be a potential seer in disguise! cool huh?
Tumblr media
the seers and the mursaat were both made by a species even higher than themselves- the possible true gods? or some ancient force?
i missed the dialogue after this in my screencaps but this was brought up too.
Tumblr media
doyen seems to be a leadership position in their species
Tumblr media
and the mursaat were personally wiped out by the dragons.
using this key name, sidony, that contextualizes the decision of this seer (a leader) in this journal entry from isgarren themself.
Tumblr media
notice how this mursaat is referred to with "she." the only other seer to be spoken to with feminine pronouns was the ancient seer you and evennia discuss in guild wars 1, who helps you magically infuse your armor.
Tumblr media
this puts the scepter of orr in khilbron's hands, dating this to more than 200 years ago when we seal the gate and kill the lich.
Tumblr media
isgarren is shown to not show much respect towards his fellow seers, and i can't blame him. their actions, leading to the destruction of a strong ally in the mursaat, are justifiably murder worthy.
this isnt a complete post by far, and only a string of random interconnected thoughts, but it's still (i think) valuable information to keep in the back of your head. like a warm memory. thanks for reeeeadiiing

i find this is super fascinating. like we know it's canon that once you turn nightmare there's no way to undo it, but you CAN influence the nightmare pups in briarthorm den.
which leads me to the thought that there should be a nightmare hound animal companion for rangers, but you can only get them in briarthorn den.

GW2 textiles appreciation post!
I gathered many textures from gw2 to show case how amazing and cool the details in textiles are, the details, patterns. All of this has been done so good :3 Starting with main cities:
Black Citadel - Charr use fur for carpets but in some places they have fabric here and there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Divinity's Reach - Humans have lot's of tents and banners, a lot of reds appear.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hoalbrak - Norn's have two banners/ tapestries and a whole two carpet designs, lots of elements have fur/ skin around tho.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Rata Sum - Not much better than Norn's they lack more patterns.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The grove I skipped since there is not much there except plants.
I'll continue with expansions in a reblog :3
