There's something about the way the Japanese design their contemporary buildings, something about the way how they place their telephone poles and power lines, that is u mistakenly Japanese yet I always have a difficult time identifying what makes it so distinct to me. Now, I'm not talking about buildings which are obviously Japanese, talking about like in the first picture in the series. Perhaps it's the narrow streets and the shape, size, and placement of their windows, and a general lack of flash and tack. Maybe it's the genuineness of their architecture.
Several days ago I was watching a short trade video for a machine cutting tool supplier wherein they were interviewing a Japanese shop that made power plant parts. I had to pause the video several times to look at the background during an exterior shot because of how delightful I found the Japanese design even though I could not figure out why.

I've heard that when blind people are able to have vision restored, many go through a period of depression as they adjust because the world was not as beautiful as when they could not see it.

School Girls vs. Sweets & Stuffed Animals
Kazuhiro Hori (堀一浩) recently completed a group show, “Tengai 2.0” curated by Tenmyouya Hisashi. His works focus exclusively on depressed school girls languishing in strange worlds filled with cream, candy & menacing toys. He seems to be following a trend of Japanese artists, such as Aida Makoto & Shintaro Kago who are debasing school girls as modern symbols of Japan. ● More Kazuhiro on Facebook
