   you know those magic based TV shows where the characters accidentally trade powers for a bit? imagine zuko waterbending, constantly complaining he’s cold or zuko with the avatar spirit.

AU where Zuko realises very early into his banishment that he’s been sent on a hopeless goose chase and, actually, he doesn’t want to return to the oppressive Fire Nation and his abusive father. And he sticks with this decision even after Aang wakes up from the iceberg

Except then Aang meets Zuko - probably when Zuko jumps in to save someone, because his sense of justice is too strong to just sit back while someone is hurt, even if he is trying to remain apolitical - and his brain goes “!!!!” Because that’s a good firebender. They do exist. And now Aang knows someone who can teach him firebending without trying to kill him

Except Zuko wants nothing to do with the Avatar. He especially doesn’t want to get entangled with his father’s war. So the rest of the season is about Zuko running from the Avatar, and Aang and co trying to capture the reluctant ex-Prince of the Fire Nation so he can be Aang’s firebending teacher

I did not know the whole context.  Now I know the whole context.  Have this post from the lovely mangfei.

I really don’t like how easily Zuko forgave their Mom.

I know she did it to protect him, I know she thought she was doing the right thing, but by instead of fighting for her children and finding a way to save them she helped murder a man and then abandoned her young impressionable CHILDREN to their abusive father. Then, to care so little for their fate, she had her memories and identity changed. These are, to me, deplorable actions and she is just as much a part of what happened to Azula and Zuko as Ozai is. She might not have abused them herself (though I think she might have done quite a bit of damage to Azula with her words) she is an accomplice to what happened to them by abandoning them. 

And Zuko was far to easy on her about it. 

I don’t condone Azula’s idea of wanting to murder her, you can honestly never condone any of Azula’s choices and actions, but I do think Zuko should have taken a step back and looked at the bigger picture. Let’s be honest, he’s impressionable and naive and he was blindly hoping to fix some part of his childhood by forgiving her and perhaps even give Azula the support she needed to become healthier. 

At the end of the day I think a lot of his actions and choices are to help the one family he has left and a person I believe he has a lot of guilt toward not helping. Azula is important to him and their mother is definitely important to Azula considering how she hallucinates a kind version of her.
