alright,    just  one  more  time  back  and  forth  and  he  might  be  done  for  the  week.    it  was  his  fault  the  grass  has  grown  this  much  anyway    —    he’s  been  so  damn  busy,  only  being  able  to  drop  off  his  mother’s  cooking  to  the  boss  on  his  way  to  the  station.    the  unbearable  sun  made  him  sweat  and  he’d  discarded  his  shirt  a  while  ago,  but  even  spraying  himself  with  a  hose  and  drinking  two  glasses  of  cold  water  didn't  cool  him  down  enough  as  well  as  sitting  down  in  the  shade  for  a  few  minutes.    deep  breaths,  running  a  hand  through blonde hair  and  massaging  the  back  of  his  neck  helped,  but  soon  he  was  on  his  feet  again, ready to move, ready to finish up and go home.    picking  up  the  leftover  grass,  carrying  it  to  a  pile  on  the  other  side  of  the  garden,  completely  in  his  thoughts  until  …    until  her  familiar  voice  cuts the silence  and  his  head  snaps  in  her  direction.

there  she  is    —    the  same  as  he  remembers  her.    beautiful  hair,  angelic  face  with  a  smile  that  used  to  bring  him  to  his  knees  and  promise  her  the  stars.    his  posture  straightens  and  shoulders  tense,        ‘  yeah,  i  misbehaved  again.  ‘        luke  replies,  a  bright  smile  already  softening  his  gleaming  features.    at  least  he  can  blame  his  red  cheeks  on  the  sun  and  not  the  fact  that  it  could  have  been  caused  by  melissa’s  sudden  appearance.        ‘  what  are  you  doing  here,  hm?    your  pops  didn't  tell  me  you’d  be  visiting.  ‘

she should have expected it , really . of course she'd bump into him again , it was just a matter of time . but to see him mowing her father's lawn ? that was a surprise . coffee in hand doesn't seem strong enough as she wanders out onto the porch , leaning against support beam with an ease she hadn't expected to have when seeing him again . " your mother got you doing chores for the neighbours again ? " said as smile slowly starts to devour lips , unable to hide the gentle excitement that was taking over her .
