Kaeya Origin: 3
A Distress call rang out on all channels, cutting through the feedback coming from the radio. “mayday mayday, this is the exodus white requesting immediate assistance. Unknown hostile forces are attempting to board the colony ship and we cannot launch. i repe-”
Kaeya silenced the radio, briefly looking around at the sprawled bodies of the chitin clad monsters around her. Tough, but not immortal, thank the traveler. Still, more ammunition would be useful, she’d passed multiple wrecked tanks, still smoking from where they’d been....torn apart. best not to tangle with whatever had done that, she thought to herself.
Bringing up the saved copy of the map she had downloaded, she scrolled to the launchsite area, locating the pad that the exodus white would be sitting on. She could make it, she was sure of it, but she would need transport to get there in time. Glancing around, she spotted a vehicle bay, damaged but still standing; if she was going to find a vehicle, it was the place to start.
Ten minutes later, and she had cobbled together a....well, to call it a hover cycle would be generous, the Antigravity drive was taken from one model, the induction thrusters from two different models, and it was running on a pair of salvaged micro-fusion cells she had pulled from the wreckage of a tank. It would have to do. Carefully, she edged the vehicle out of the shutter door, and seeing the area clear, accelerated away, following the holo-map to the launch site.
Less than 15 minutes later, Kaeya began to see the exodus white and her launch towers over the rocky terrain. As she looked up at the huge spherical tanks, a deafening boom filled her ears, as the towers of another colony ship next to it fell away, the engines igniting as it shuddered into motion. No time to be concerned about that, maybe not safe to be this close, but it seemed like safety had gone to hell quite a lot earlier. In the distance, as the engines of the colony ship faded with distance, she heard gunfire, distant reports of high calibre rifles and machine guns, and the eldritch howls of those weapons the enemies had been carrying. Soon enough a battleground came into view. A pair of tanks, one immobilised but still fighting, surrounded by cosmodrome security forces, facing off against what could only be described as a tide of howling, frail bodies, swiping with sickle-like green claws at any bared flesh or armour. Behind this wave of nightmares hovered a vile being, like a priest, clad in blood red robes, three sickly green eyes peering at the battlefield ahead of it as it conjured more and more servants to wear down the defences.
Feeling the fusion cells beginning to fail, Kaeya aimed her vehicle at the horde, a bright comet of nuclear entropy, leaping off mere seconds before collision, and tumbling down the snowy slope, away from the screaming crowd. A wet Thump filled her ears, less an explosion than a rapid release of plasma and radiation, and a flare of heat on her exposed skin, noticeable in it’s contrast with the cold air. And all was silent.
The sound of heavy boots in the snow, and she was carefully hauled out of the snow by gloved hands, opening her eyes to see two of the soldiers who had been fighting around the tanks.
“hey, get up, are you all right?” She nodded an affirmative, still shell shocked from the detonation. “good, nice trick you pulled, but there’ll be more coming. We need to secure the launch control centre, otherwise none of the people on that ship are getting out. think you can help?”
“uh, yeah, yes i can” she stammered, shaking herself out of the shock she had been in, “is there a plan? i got a supply drop from the warmind network before it went dark, so i can share what i have.”
The soldier in front of her glanced up, to a point she couldn’t see behind her.”yeah, we have an idea, problem is the launch centre is...over run, and we can’t hold this point much longer, we need to send a team to start the launch process, but it’s suicide, even if we could clear out everything there, the people activating the launch would be left to die.”
Kaeya grinned, pulling herself to her feet. “well i reckon i can manage something, i’ll need one of your tanks and a few of your people to get me close, but i think there should be time for you to get on board.”
The man in front of her telegraphed his surprise, his face going slightly slack.”you’re staying?! you’ll die, you know that right? there are no reinforcements coming, are you sure you want to do this?”
For the first time in days, kaeya felt her heart slow, as she considered. Moments later, she was once again resolute. “listen, my sister, her kids, my nieces, they’re on that colony ship, i was hoping to see them off, but i guess this is the best we can do. I’m happy to play my part to get this ship away, but i need to know that they’ll be taken care of.”
A look of recognition, if deep sympathy spread across the face of the man in front of her.” of course, i’ll make sure of it, you’ll have your team, we’ll hold this point as long as we can.” without further words, he began to select men and women, until a team of 6 stood in front of her; gazing around at this team, kaeya was broken from her focus by a sudden touch. “here, you’ll need this more than i will.” In his hands, outstretched for her to take, a shotgun, sawed off barrel and stock, a real close quarters holdout weapon. “If you treat her right, she’ll get you to that command centre.”
A gentle smile spread across kaeya’s face, as she gently took the weapon.” thank you, i’ll take good care of her.”
Turning to face the path ahead, she readied herself for her final mission
“lets get this over with, i’ve got a date with the devil and i know he isn’t ready for me”

Vengeful Short: Meeting Zavala
When Drehr first meets zavala, she’s new, still in shock at being chosen. rushed back to the city by her mentor and friend Kaeya, the tension is obvious, but he welcomes her all the same.
When leksis first meets zavala, there is little said on either of their parts, keaya stood between them, knowing well the history zavala has with eliksni. leksis doesn’t go back to the tower much after, but she doesn’t blame zavala for the way he looks at her.
When Kaeya first meets zavala, it’s in an alley, between two burning buildings, the battle of six fronts raging around them. She is 10 years his senior, still mourning the iron lords and bound in solar fire zavala has seen only once.

Kaeya Origin: 2
It was just Kaeya now. Half an hour ago the commander had caught a stray bolt from whatever those creatures where using as weapons. The wound had gnawed at him, weakening him until he fell limp. The fusion rifle was on the brink of failing now, but besides Her Sidearm, it was the only functional weapon she had left.
‘All units, Warmind network has declared skyshock event, all forces are to retreat to closest facility for counterattack planning.’ The radio blaired out, Static interfering a small measure, but the message still clear. ‘Repeat, this is Submind Beethoven ordering a full retreat of cosmodrome defence forces. All forces on the ground are to evacuate and assist in civilian evacuation efforts.’
Kaeya raised her radio to her mouth, taking a deep breath to steady herself before speaking. ‘Beethoven, this is Lieutenant Kaeya beskyddare of Ground team 45, i’m all that’s left, what options can you give me?’. A slight click sounded as the signal picked up again, and there was an audible pause before the submind responded. ‘Lieutenant, i am sorry to hear about your team. I must warn you, your position makes chance of survival very limited.’ curiously, the voice sounded almost regretful, but then, Clovis bray had been working very hard on the warmind project, perhaps it was genuine. ‘Nevertheless, if you can make it, an exodus era colony ship is attempting to take off 3 km from your position. I am unsure that it will make orbit unless the hostiles attacking it are repelled.’
‘Roger that Beethoven, i’m, on my way, request orbital ordnance pod ASAP’ She was desperately hoping that the warsat network could atleast spare her that for what could be her last mission.
'loud and clear Ground team 45, bumping you to the top of the requesition queue, what do you need’ The voice rang out clear, and a tone sounded, marking the period to request equipment.
Kaeya grinned, despite her circumstances, making a mental list of what she could use best. ‘Requesting high calibre semi automatic battle rifle, Area denial explosive ordnance and Anti structure ordnance packs, ammunition as well if that’s alright.’
Once again, the voice of the submind crackled over the radio, a fixed point in the chaos surrounding her. ‘Request confirmed, although i must inquire as to why you want Anti structure ordnance’
‘Beethoven, i’ve seen some stuff out here that i doubt is going to go down unless i drop a building on it, and i may need to create a few....’ Kaeya paused, searching for the right term, ‘barricades if you catch my drift’
‘Very well. Ordnance pod is on it’s way. ETA 20 seconds, 20 metres from your current location.’
The soldier glanced around the area she had holed up in. It had probably been a warehouse or hangar at some point. The hulk of an interplanetary transport rotted in the corner whilst a collection of jumpships in various states of disrepair littered the main area. The creatures hadn’t seemed to come in here, perhaps the scent of rust threw off their senses.
‘Roger that beethoven. One way or another, we’re going to save some lives’
As Keaya made her way out of the hangar, the fusion rifle shouldered and paused halfway through its charge cycle, she heard the roar of the ordnance pod as it ripped through the lower atmosphere at 10 times the speed of sound. With a Deafening thud that shook the ground, the onyx black pod, angular and jagged struck the ground, immediately stopping, pristine and immaculate.
She approached the pod, entering within 5 metres before the front of it began to fold open, exposing the precious cargo contained within; A brand new 15mm High impact Battle rifle, complete with a stock of full magazines and a 4x magnification holo-scope. As well as that, a cluster of area denial grenades, suitable to drop into a doorway and keep it clear for atleast half a minute, and last but not least, 6 small, brick shaped objects, each a black box about the size of a deck of cards, with enough explosive force to demolish an industrial building.
Kaeya shouldered the rifle, the electronic ammo counter flickering to life. She grinned, ready to ruin the day of the next enemies who got in her way.
///Skyshock alert, declare phase 2. Midnight exigent on hold, Prepare to integrate subminds, All Warsat assets initiate survival protocols.

Kaeya Origin
Date/ 8 Hours pre collapse, Outbound flight from Zingst Cosmodrome, Germany:
‘Well’ Kaeya sighed ‘ I guess that’s that’. She closed the locker door, shouldering her rifle. ‘Re-assignment to Russia at a time like this? i swear the warminds are going crazy.’
‘It can’t be helped Kaeya’ The commander grinned ’just be glad that the world isn’t ending, it’s just a higher priority task guarding Baikonur’
The tall woman glanced back at the officer as she retorted ‘yeah, says the one person on the team who got the latest fusion rifle’
‘Now now Lieutenant, that’s no way to talk to your commanding officer’ a voice crackled through the dropship speaker system.
The commander stood up, shouldering his weapon. ‘It’s no problem, what can our team do for you Beethoven?’
The warmind’s Voice crackled through the speakers again ‘Something’s come up, i need your team on the ground at Zingst cosmodrome’ As suddenly as the voice had appeared, it was gone, leaving the cabin quiet again.
‘Well that’s interesting’ The commander chimed ‘Guess we’re not going to russia afterall’
‘How convenient, i forgot my toothbrush anyway’ Retorted Kaeya, feigning disappointment.
As the dropship Changed course and swung back towards the German Cosmodrome, She couldn’t help but wonder what event would disrupt such a routine operation?
Date/ -MAYDAY-MAYDAY-MAYDAY-MAYDAY//SYSTEM RESTORE//WARMIND NETWORK OFFLINE//
Blasts of Purple energy hit the rock Kaeya had taken cover behind. She quickly reloaded her rifle, before ducking out of her cover as the shooting paused, firing off three of the massive 12mm slugs from it’s magazine. She caught two of the creatures in their foreheads and one in its knee, before pulling herself back into cover as their comrades resumed firing.
‘Yeah i think i figured out why they wanted us in germany’ She shouted over the firing to the figure hunched next to her.
‘No Sh*t’ he shouted, glancing at her before tossing a grenade over the rock, and sticking both fingers in his ears.
The explosion was deafening, but it did it’s job. When they peeked out of cover, the grotesque humanoid figures, covered in fetid green bone and crawling with worms, had been scattered and eviscerated by the shrapnel.
‘Yeah i’m going to say the world is in fact ending, and you owe me money’ Kaeya grinned at the commander, as he Shook his rifle, trying to squeeze more life out of the overworked fusion cells.
‘We need to find the rest of the team, we’re lucky they didn’t shoot us down, but i’m still worried none of them have reported back’

Thanks for reading if you did. there’s a second part coming soon, just wanted to put this page out there first.

🏠 & 🔘, for any or all?
🏠: Does the tower / city truly feel like home to you?
Kaeya: “not really no, i don’t spend much time there, it was never really my home anyway. the reef is far more familiar, Drifter and Leksis prefer it there anyway.”
Leksis: “Tower was never…my home. The great machine’s light has graced me with the title of guardian, but there are many who would rather it had not”.
Drifter: “a place….surrounded by walls. exactly what do you think that feels like for a hunter? nah, give me the Reef or the german cosmodrome anyday, atleast we’re welcome there.”
🔘 What is your opinion of the Traveler? The Speaker?
Kaeya: “well, i thank the traveller for my ghost, she is the greatest friend i’ve had. but i can’t help but feel that perhaps the speaker wasn’t really what we thought he was. i can’t trust somebody who never reveals their motives. besides, if you need a veteran titan to tell you to trust him, go speak to zavala.”
Leksis: “i was not introduced to the speaker until the fall of the house of wolves. i knew little of him beyond what kaeya relayed. the traveller is a more…complex matter. i thank it for Vasir, my beloved ghost, but cannot forget the whirlwind.”
Drifter: “yeah i guess the traveller is cool. i don’t entirely understand it, but i’m thankful for the chance to protect people. i guess the glowy light powers are a bonus…the speaker….he was ok i guess? again, his obsession with the city and it’s walls never really seemed right to me.”
