would hikari and taichi's ranking on the siblings chart change if tri didn't exist and if it does by how much
This is in reaction to my ranking the 25 featured siblings in Digimon in order of dysfunction from 4 years ago. So read that first. It's a lot of fun, and the assessment of the Shinonomes holds up pretty well despite being written before Survive came out. Although I suppose I need to rank Miyuki and Haru now.
Anyway, my first thought is that Taichi and Hikari wouldn't change too much if we took out tri., since it showed off both their trust in each other and their extreme codependency pretty well. It's in line with what you would have expected from Adventure and 02. However, tri. gave us something that we didn't see before: proof.
Even if we're all confident one of the two would go ballistic losing the the other, the strongest reaction we got before this was Taichi punching Koshiro in frustration. When you look up the list at the chaos Ken, Yuuko, Nene, and Rei caused when their sibs disappeared, it's a competitive field. Enough that I'd bump them up to 20th, less dysfunctional than Ken/Osamu, Yuuko/Yuugo, and Nene/Yuu. They're still more of a mess than Rei and Hajime though.

Are you saying the computers were only auto-correcting my double hyphens into em-dashes was so they could steal them for themselves?! That's the only auto-correct I like! I feel so betrayed!
someone on twitter is trying to claim that use of an em-dash is an indication of AI-generated writing because it’s “relatively rare” for actual humans to use it. skill issue

It's interesting that the Digimon Cyber Sleuth fem!MC went from "accidentally lesbian because we wrote for a male MC in mind" to kinda becoming the face of Cyber Sleuth

PSA: The digimon fandom homophobe guardiandua deleted and made a new account (guardiandua91) -- and they're still posting homophobic and transphobic rhetoric
I wasn't gonna make a callout post, since their blog is non-searchable, which makes it hard to find and block them. But they started posting general digimon analysis posts that DO show up in the digimon adventure and digimon tamers tags (they also followed me for some reason???). they also are known for tacking on comments to reblogs, which just makes them more visible. I'm just giving everyone a fair warning to check and make sure you're not reblogging from them, and to block if they follow you or reblog from you.
If you're not familiar with this person, they are incredibly homophobic and proud of it, while at the same time complaining that the Digimon fandom is "dead" (according to them). for some context, I will post a screenshot of their original post that blew up back in January under a cut.
in their new pinned post, they claim "don't like, don't interact" and that they don't care if people block them. but I worry there are still going to be people who don't know who they are when they see them in the tags. also if you don't want people you hate to interact with you, why bother deleting and then immediately remaking your blog with the same homophobic bullshit? that only serves to clear out all your blocks so you can irritate and stalk people who blocked you all over again. it's disrespectful to the people you supposedly don't want to engage with. it's giving "I need the people I hate to see that I hate them all over again while pretending I don't care".
I urge everyone to block them again and move on instead of engaging with them in any way (because they clearly DO want engagement). I already blocked them so they probably won't even see this.
also they have a friend named blade-liger-4ever who has the exact same views as them, just fyi
But yeah. the digimon fandom is queer and will always be queer. I'm queer and will always love digimon.

I was a guest on the With the Will podcast yesterday where we talked about everything from Digimon Con! The Beyond conversation starts at 28:49 and my take has evolved a little bit since last week so it might be fun to hear a full conversation about it.

I ran (not through these folks though I did utilize the NDTC) and I highly encourage you to take a look at wgat local positions are up for grabs. (And any funds you receive should go into a separate business account for your campaign so I'm not sure why someone on disability benefits would be ineligible).
Look, I know Tumblr is the website of chronically online introverts, but this is also the only website where I have any reach. And I live in America so this is relevant to me. So I'll go ahead and put this here.
Run For Something
Every year there's hundreds of positions that go completely unchallenged. Some of them for areas that you, the general American Tumblrite, probably care about.
I'm being so, so, so completely serious right now.
Run For Something
Run for something, and if you promise to never ban a book, the linked website and @fated-mates can get you in touch with volunteers for phone banking (aka letting voters know you exist, what you stand for, and convincing people to vote for you). Depending on your situation, they'll fund you, too.
(fated mates was more specific about helping Leftist candidates get $1000, but I'll let you listen to them on this episode and decide for yourself. I'm not affiliated with them.)
Women especially need to hear the message 7 times, according to some studies, to be convinced that yes, this is something they can do.
You can run for something! Run for something small. School boards. Municipal government. Run for something as a side hustle. Run for something because you're an empty nester and your book club stinks. Run for something so you can personally push things leftward, even if it's just one foot, that's one foot further towards your leftist goals no matter what they might be.
Run for school board because look at the fucking idiots currently running it. You know you're smarter than them. Fucking, if you've ever completed a school project you're probably smarter than them.
Run for something because Elon Musk is pissing you off. Run for something because you're trying to fight off despair. Run for something because you hate the idea that you can't do anything. You can do something! You can run for something.
But where to even start?
Don't worry, they got you.
Filling out this form will show you a list of state legislative and local offices where you can run based on your current address.
No matter the results, you will also be added automatically to the Run for Something candidate pipeline — check your inbox in the next few days for next steps.
Note: Data includes offices on the ballot in 2025 and 2026. Updates will be made throughout the year as additional information is available.

I brought up these three as a group in the Digimon Con livechat and we agreed the team name is the Trauma Trio.
Outsider -- s. a person who does not belong to a particular group.
🥚🧬🗽 Just a peculiar trio of people with a lot in common.

For the timeline placement, do you think placing Beyond between Tri and Kizuna would make it fit? Given how Iori mentioned that he's a high schooler and was an adult by the 02 movie, and how Taichi (who is stated to not have a job and he has one by Kizuna) and Yamato still has their original Digivices and not using the smartphones from Kizuna?
If you run with the assumption that the kid with Takeru and Joe isn't Lui, it's plausible but awkward. The Iori thing is the only real evidence for it, since they're talking jobs in terms of careers (which Taichi didn't have in Kizuna) and we don't really know when they started and stopped using the smartphones. But the Iori part is worth thinking about.
I don't know, it would also be such a strange place to set a PV. Like why go backwards to before Kizuna and Beginning, but incorporate elements of tri.? It's not really "Beyond" anything, is it? It flies against the spirit of what this PV was being sold as.
It's certainly possible that the opening scene is before Kizuna and everything after that is after Beginning, but that's 1) weird and 2) still doesn't account for the events of Kizuna/Beginning. It makes the whole thing feel very "scraps off the cutting room floor" more than a glimpse at a cool new Adventure project that may or may not ever exist.

Digimon Adventure Beyond Reaction
Popping back into the old Digi-analysis hat to talk a little bit about the Digimon Adventure Beyond PV. There are a lot of hot takes about what it represents and what it means for the future or even what it actually is. And all of the discourse leads me to make my take pretty simple:
The choice to not engage with the timeline’s messy bits makes things kinda messy.
If you’re looking for validation that this is a full realization of the timeline put forward by the 02 epilogue, tri., Kizuna, and The Beginning, Beyond throws a ton of goodies at you! Takeru, Joe and Koshiro all put their epilogue careers on full display. Yamato being a driver was introduced in tri. and Kizuna. Sora takes a complete 180 in her fashion sensibilities, giving vibes consistent with her Kizuna short where she professed wanting to do her own thing. Meiko and possibly Lui make quick cameos!
Hell, you even get a themed appearance from the wacky Armor forms 02 never got to show off. It’s all tremendous, exactly what you want a memorial video to capture.
But that doesn’t entirely fly with the timeline, does it? While I’ll argue that you’re selling Taichi and Yamato short in thinking losing their Digimon in Kizuna was going to be permanent, Agumon and Gabumon are back with no explanation and it does feel like we missed something. Especially with how boldly they showcase Iori’s D3, the destruction of which I’d argue could have been permanent with no real disruptions. And while Sora claimed she wasn’t interested in following in her mother’s footsteps, she also swore off battling, so...
There’s also a question of when exactly this is supposed to be happening. Taichi and Yamato don’t look too different from Kizuna, but Mimi and Ken sure do. As we get closer to epilogue day, more than a few of us were imagining Beyond to be closer to 2027 than when we last saw everybody in 2012. But nobody looks like they have kids yet, and everyone’s styles and attitudes are so vibrant here that their portrayals in the epilogue are now looking a little too toned down and safe. For everything that validates previous future glimpses of the Chosen, there are things that seem to dismiss them.
It’s important to note that the invalidating elements are far flimsier than the validating ones. There’s every possibility some unseen event restored Digimon and D3s, Sora quits her second tomboy phase as quickly as she did the first one, and this is far enough ahead of 2027 that everyone eased back on their outfits once the kids started popping out. All of those things have possible offscreen explanations, while Meiko and Pucchiemon were indisputably there.
But there was a lot of other things too, new elements of a potentially deeper story. Who was that little kid in the car? What’s the black stuff? What’s with that crystal around Takeru’s neck? We don’t know if we’re ever getting the answers to these questions, and that’s a bit annoying. With a new original Digimon series on the horizon, the next opportunity to peel more of this orange may not be for a year or two, by which time it really does feel like anything Adventure should be catching up to the present day. The end result is that we have us a thrilling celebration of everything Digimon Adventure has given us over the years… just as long as you don’t sit down and try to process all of it.
