i was so enamored with yuiji wearing traditional clothing that i painted a few more modern day color variations HAHA I drew a "realistic" version what i imagined yuiji would actually wear in the black color scheme and a fun floral and geometric version that someone else would have to pick for him.

Social Media Habits

Yuiji

Yuiji feels absolutely chronically offline to me. He constantly forgets to text his friends back and they've learned that they need to call him if they have anything important to say. He made an Instagram account because Hongou and Mayu forced him to follow them back and he's pretty indiscriminate with following classmates back when they ask him to because he doesn't really use the app. When he's waiting for the subway or his friend, he might scroll through recommended reels. Once in a blue moon, he'll post a blurry story of him petting Azuki.

Yamato

Yamato is pretty internet literate when it comes to browser stuff, but he doesn't spend much time on social media. His Instagram has less than 10 pictures on it and they're all from major events like winning the school soccer league or family vacations abroad. 233 accounts follow him and he follows 7. He always texts with perfect grammar and full sentences.

Hongou

Hongou only regularly uses three apps, but he's always signing up for new ones and forgetting his usernames and passwords. He's a huge Twitter user for following idols and is constantly commenting a string of heart emojis when they post selfies. He and Mayu relentlessly send reels to each other and he sends Yuiji silly posts when he's sitting right next to him to see his reaction. Recently, watching Yuiji's reaction to real or cake videos has been his favorite go-to.

Nacchan

Nacchan's not big on social media, but she's very attentive to her messaging apps and never leaves people on-read. Occasionally, she likes trying out baking hacks and aesthetic recipes that come by her feed. Most of her phone time though is spent on webtoon apps and she'll never admit how much money she's spent on unlocking chapters. She also loves customizing her phone's wallpaper and icons into cute themes.

Seki

Seki had a bad middle school phase of being a social media warrior with engaging in fandom fights on reddit and tumblr. Yamato just had to ask him once why he was in such a bad mood at soccer practice, and Seki deleted his accounts immediately. He has a healthy, vanilla relationship with social media now, though TikTok did briefly threaten to pull him to the dark side.

Mayu

Mayu's too easily fed up with stupidity to use social media regularly. She follows news outlets, cute animal content, and likes all the videos that Hongou sends, but she refuses to use any social media app that forces recommend content. If she can't pick and select the specific accounts that she wants to follow, she won't do it. She enjoys longform content the most and will play video essays on random topics or podcasts as background noise.

Sakura

Sakura constantly vagueposts and never replies if his followers or irl acquaintances ask him what's going on. He never posts selfies, but will post an occasional aesthetic picture of him raising his hand into the sun or his shadow on a bridge or some shit like that. He follows dumb accounts specifically to laugh and ridicule them. He never comments, but they frequently anger him and his boss constantly questions if it's healthy. (it's not.)

Akiyama

I've made this headcanon in my sleeping habits post, but I 100% think Akiyama is a doomscroller. Miyano had to force him to delete TikTok when it was first released because Akiyama just couldn't escape. Akiyama schedules MV drops for his favorite artists, follows a few too many twitch streamers, and has a toxic relationship with gatcha games. He wants all the waifus and his RNG is horrible.

Hibino

Hibino watches thirst trap TikTok under his covers and he can't really use social media in public because his fbi men have absolutely clocked how horny he is and his recommendations are shot.

I don't understand Mike at all. He's homophobic but he wants to get up in Yamato's love life for some reason. I think it's rude of him to act so familiar with Yamato after he ghosted him in middle school.

I think Mike is a hypocrite. he's disappointed that Yamato is doing the same thing he did in middle school when he ghosted Yamato after figuring out his feelings for him. Mike has no right to tell Yamato that after what he did to him in the past. He is still the same way with his crushes because he now knows the terrible consequences of his feelings being known by the special guy. Mike, Yamato is scared because he doesn't want Yuiji to do what you did to him in the past, seriously you need to shut up. You are being overly familiar with Yamato, you just got back into Yamato's life but you feel like you got the right to get all up in Yamato's private life wth...

Koimonogatari Character Playlists: Hibino

HELLO, I have a Character Playlist Series for Koimonogatari where I will be making playlists for each of the characters! Unlike my Koimonogatari playlist, the songs won’t be necessarily describing the characters themselves, but rather what I imagine the character would listen to.

Next up is Hibino's playlist! A mix of city pop-ish edm, jazzy indie rock, and r&b-ish pop. A lot of different genres, but they're all united by a kind of bouncy vibe.

I am back from my brief hiatus and you'll find there are no more Koimonogatari posts on this blog.

Without going into much detail, there were a few members of the fandom who repeatedly intruded on my blog despite my requests for them to stop. Tumblr's privacy mechanisms were not enough to stop them from accessing my blog, and it got to a point where any notifications and asks were causing me intense anxiety.

For this reason, I moved all of my Koimonogatari posts to a side blog that I will now dedicate all of my Koi posts. Unfortunately, because of the above reasons, I have disabled anonymous asks and replies on my posts on my new blog. This decision really gutted me because some of the funnest moments I had with the Koimmunity was through anon interactions and replies, but because of Tumblr's limited privacy settings, this was the only way I could think of to feel comfortable engaging with the Koimmunity again.

I hope to get to a point where I'm comfortable enough opening anon asks again on this blog, so I can still interact with the Koimmunity on a more casual level, but alas, it is the end of an [counts on fingers] 8-year era! I'm grateful to all the Kois who made these last few years stress-free and a pleasure to make content for. I'm sad that I won't be the arms-open auntie/overly friendly uncle to the fandom I was before, but there are plenty of Koi fans picking up after my slack!

Hey Jack, I read Koimonogatari both the officially translated version, and the scanlated version, but there're still many scenes I don't understand. One of them is the scene between Seki and Yamato where Yamato talks about being cool vs. acting cool, and Seki said as long as they like each other, nothing else matters (loosely paraphrased). It seems to have a big impact on Yamato, but I don't quite follow. What's your take?

YES i love that scene HAHA so i definitely have a lot of thoughts on it! A big part of Yamato keeping himself in the closet is hiding himself underneath this sort of gentle mask, so people like him. In one of the earliest chapters, Yamato has this inner dialogue while looking in the mirror saying something to the effect of, I found safety from my fear of others by being nice to them. "I must seem really fake."

It's established at multiple points that Yamato and Seki are v popular at the school. From this perspective, when Yamato is talking about being "cool", I interpret that as him having a lot of respect for Seki's natural and honest charisma. And that feeds into why he cares about Seki's opinion so much and why he's so scared of coming out to him. There are people who think Yamato's kind "persona" is fake (note the conversation Yamato overhears where a random girl says he seems fake) and what if Seki thinks that too? What if this mutual respect and friendship between the two of them crumbles because Seki sees Yamato as someone who has been feigning his personality because he's afraid of people discovering his sexuality?

And the exact quote of "I should become cool, rather than act cool", I think Yamato is saying that he wants to be confident enough in himself, so he can stand as equals to Seki, who he sees as someone who is legitimately "cool", rather than "lying" in a sense to his best friend.

And then Seki, super flustered, basically replies BRO i pretend to act cool a lot too, it's fine if we're both putting on some airs, that's normal. So, when he follows up with "You like me. I like you. Does anything else matter?", I see that as Seki basically saying that, no matter how we act around each other, even if some of it is fake (implying, I think, even if you've hidden your sexuality from me), none of that matters because we're friends.

This also ties back to an early chapter when Yamato is confiding in Yuiji about worrying about keeping himself in the closet to Seki and feeling some guilt with that. Recall, this was Yuiji's reply:

Essentially, the sentiment is exactly what Seki says so many chapters later. No matter what sort of guilt and overthinking is going on in Yamato's head, they're friends because they time they spend together is legitimate, fun, and happy. "Does anything else matter?"

So, when Yamato is outed and people are immediately acting differently towards him, Seki affirming this sentiment that Yuiji gave Yamato early on gives Yamato a lot of security and relief. Like, yeah, random classmates and strangers might be giving him a lot of shit for his sexuality, but Seki is his friend through and through and even if he's fully aware that Yamato was being dishonest with him, he's totally okay with that.

They'll be friends no matter what.

Omg, I think it needs 2 more chapters and we will have a love confession from yamato ❤️ and than it needs 5 more for Yuijis answer. So 8-10 more chapters and the story ends. That means, including the speed of story telling, we need to wait only 5-6 more years 😂❤️

To me, it seems that Mikeda will be used as a plot device and influence Yamato to change his repressive outlook on love. Following this we may see the development of Yamato and Yuiji's relationships. What are your thoughts?

My thought is that Mike is going to out Yamato to Yuiji to "protect" him from Yamato. Tagura said the third volume would focus on Yuiji, which it really hasnt so far LOL so I'm thinking with the parallels of Yuiji being the crushed-on-friend and Mike being the past-crushed-on-friend, there might be a direct confrontation with them?

And with sensei saying this volume would be Yuiji-focused, I think the brunt of the character development will be with him? I can see Yamato's mindset changing but...not with Mike? I can only see Mike's presence further shutting his interactions down with Yuiji. It's hard to imagine how Mike might influence Yamato to be more open-minded with his approach to his Hibino situation.

TLDR, I agree with you, but rather than Yamato, I think Mike will be used as a plot device for Yuiji!

I'd love to hear what other predictions people have for the Mike situation! Honestly, he has such callous and blunt personality that there's soo much that can happen with him.
