It's been too long for Livvy not to be used to Quinlin in her life.
word count: 300
written for day 6, complicated relationships, of @kotlcqueerplatonicshipweek!
for best results (and notes!), read on ao3! (although it is only a triple drabble, so it's probably easier just to read it here)
They didn’t exactly start out in love. It was just a simple deal: they get married, and they don’t get pressure to marry.
They were friends before, of course. Not very close, but close enough.
Livvy would like to say, for the record, she regrets the decision.
Quinlin has been her companion for a very, very long time. They spend most of their time apart, but even then, they still live together, and Quinlin is the only person who knows exactly how Livvy takes her coffee, just as Livvy is the only person who knows that Quinlin, when he's alone, will hum to himself the worst music in existence.
They're so close to some farce of a normal relationship. Well, Livvy knows easily that they've been pretending well enough, avoiding the scorn of a bad match.
Well enough does not necessarily mean well.
The arguments, of course, are difficult. But it's not like they don't end up making up eventually. Quinlin is, for better or for worse (but mostly worse), a part of Livvy's life.
It's the secret reason why they don't file for a match fail. Livvy could, if she really did hate Quinlin.
It’s been too long; a blink in the eye of an Ancient but all too long for those who have lived less.
Quinlin's a part of her life, and Livvy can't imagine a life without him, despite everything.
In all honesty, Livvy's not quite sure if she hates that. Quinlin's there, and something about her life would be incomplete without him, but in the same vein, Livvy doesn't really want Quinlin in her life.
Livvy supposes it’ll be like that for the rest of their lives: neither of them want to live without another. Even if it’s perhaps the best situation for both of them.

fanpoem about stina and marella for @kotlcqueerplatonicshipweek, again under my main rather than my writing blog. for day 7, free day!
sorry about the image (it's the only way i'm able to ensure it looks right on every device), but the image id is in alt text! the alt text also adds some punctuation to make it easier to read on both sides.

I participated in @camelspit ’s reading rumble this year on Team Jensi and wrote a little short piece for him Stellarlune-era!
Most elves manifested before they were Level Fours.
Alright then, maybe Jensi wasn’t most people! Maybe he’d be fine, and just turn out to be a late bloomer, and he could stop feeling that sense of dread every time he walked out of ability detecting.
Maybe it could stop mattering as much to the world.
He had known ever since his brother had manifested that he wanted to be a Phaser. It was definitely the coolest ability! He would never be late to class again, he could scare his classmates like nobody’s business, he could even get into the super-secret locked rooms around the Gold Tower that he had stumbled past and always been curious about.
And maybe he could stop feeling like an outcast, too.
Jensi knew he was good at a lot of stuff. He was one of the best debaters on Foxfire’s team, thinking and talking lightning-quick, and he rocked at the games they played in PE. Ever since Exilium and Foxfire had started their monthly skills competition, he had regularly been a top placer. And he had been able to pay attention and stay awake in all of his classes, even Elvin History (the biggest achievement, in his mind).
But as time went on and he kept walking out of every Ability Detecting class unmanifested, he started to feel the stares.
The pity was the worst. It was like they already knew he was a lost cause. Like there was nothing he could do about the fact that the rest of his life was going to be lame, while the rest of his friends were going to be going off and doing cool and important and worthwhile things with their abilities, like he was born wrong.
Sophie and her team were off saving the world, all able to use their cool abilities to stop criminals and murderers and save Atlantis and the entire Gnomish species, to unravel milleania old conspiracies.
Even the rest of his normal friends at Foxfire had manifested and were getting mentors that would make them more skilled and smarter and faster and better.
Next to that, what could life as a Talentless even leave him?
Fernan liked to tell him differently.
His big brother had always been a little spacey, a little dreamy, and even a little mysterious. He worked at the Eternalian library, and lived at home, and yet there was always something else going on in his life, some reason for him to be out or just missing at strange hours of the day. He always had excuses—sometimes strangely contrived—
…and yet he was always able to be there at just the right moments.
Fernan would come by and just listen. He would be there when Jensi rambled, or cried, or just sat feeling hopeless.
And his brother couldn’t understand what it was like, but he never said he did.
Instead, he looked Jensi in the eye and told him that, after years of lying dormant, the world was finally changing. And he promised that, even if the sky fell, he would stay by Jensi’s side.
Jensi hoped that was a promise he could keep.
