It being pride month made me realise I'm horribly behind in my collection in regards to anything to do w queer history...
#stiofán shut up#i have like 1 book and thats it#its MENTIONED in many of the books i own - that they or their allies/comrades were queer etc#but its not the focus point if you understand what i mean#there's a book in town that I've had my eye on that i might pick up ...#Bad Gays: A Homosexual History by Ben Miller and Huw Lemmey if you'd like to check it out yourself#im horribly behind on many things. but its just yk#as an openly queer historian. i mean you'd think id have more than i do

Nando Parrado via his Instagram, regarding the passing of Daniel Fernández Strauch

Rough English Translation of caption (Alt ID in Spanish): In memory of Daniel Fernández
On May 8th, my dear friend and soul mate, Daniel Fernández, passed away. His absence leaves a deep silence, but his memory resonates loudly, because Daniel was no ordinary man: he was an example of resilience, courage, and joy even in the darkest moments.
During the tragedy in the Andes, when many would have given in to fear or despair, Daniel was a pillar. His strength was expressed in a thousand ways, but above all in his ability to remain calm when chaos engulfed everything.
Because Daniel wasn't just strong. He was also cheerful. He had a sharp sense of humor, sometimes ironic, always timely. And in the 53 years that followed, his humor continued to be a bridge between yesterday and today. He also knew very well that friendship, when it's true, becomes eternity.
Today I say goodbye with my heart in my hand, but also with gratitude. Thank you, Daniel, for being part of my life. Thank you for your strength, for your humor, for your love. Farewell, dear friend.

Francisco Romero posted the following to his Instagram, regarding the heartbreaking passing of Daniel Fernández Strauch.

Rough English translation. (Alt ID in Spanish): Daniel ❣️❤️🩹 How difficult it is to find words. Thank you for sharing your incredible story and that of your friends with me. And for giving us all so much. How lucky I was to meet you, to interpret for you, and to listen to you. A beautiful journey, dear Daniel 🩷 Thank you, thank you, thank you.
Furthermore, JA Bayona recounts an interaction he had with Daniel, writing in the comments of this post the following.
English: Beautiful words, Fran. I remember what Daniel said to you after seeing the film: "I wish I could have been like you, Fran." What a generous guy.
Gracias por su valentía, señor. Descanse en paz.💙☘️
