          THERE ARE A FEW NODS in agreement, lips pursed as she listens to steph. “right?? everyone deserves a hero like her. she seems to want to be that hero everyone needs and wants, too. gotta love a woman like her.” bette’s not stupid, she knows not everyone is fond of superheroes — lest of all heroes like diana and clark who are technically unknown aliens. doesn’t matter how many times they’ve saved the world, someone’s always going to say something. but if there’s anyone out of the JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA, she thinks that it’s diana who deserves to be hailed a hero. she nods again. “imagine THAT, grandpa bruce with diana lookin’ as old as we are and you snagging a date with the wonder woman herself. listen, i’d HAPPILY play bridesmaid twice too.” it’s why she loves the younger blonde, stephanie indulges her. she’ll get in the passenger seat, seatbelt immediately strapped on as she watches steph get ready. “you’re LUCKY you’re driving her with me,” she grins. “made sure there’s an aux chord and bluetooth before i left. so, do your thing?”

“  OH MY GOD,  I’M SO SORRY  !   ”   she’s been trying  really hard  in america to not trip over her own two feet  -  but with her sprawled out on the  cool concrete,  half on top of the other person.  a blush fills  the apples  of her cheek,  marinette shaking her dark haired head.    “   i’m so clumsy  -  oh so clumsy.  i guess  where i live  doesn’t effect my balance,  hmm  ?  ”   her french accented voice lectures herself,  before pushing herself to a sitting position.  marinette makes a face at the mess,  beginning to pick up both of their belongings that fell.    “   again,  i am so sorry.  its all my fault.   ”   and then cue that awkward chuckle.

          she’s seen LOTS in her time, has even been the other person before — once a long time ago on purpose, but she doesn’t talk about it. she’s a professional gymnast, with more grace and agility than the regular person, but bette doesn’t forget her earliest days of SUPERHERO training with kate. nor does she forget her first few times on the field. not serious enough, people told her. you’ve got a good heart, bette, but you’re getting in the way. so she brushes the girl off, pulling herself up as well. “it’s . . . fine??” she says, not unkindly. “accidents happen, y’know? sometimes you trip, sometimes you fall, sometimes you fuck up. that’s life. ... aaand that’s also DEEP. but true, isn’t it?”

          she’s heard of OVERWATCH, of course, who hasn’t? still, the statement piques bette’s interest, brows furrowed at what the other girl said. “sorry — don’t mean to butt in, but what exactly like, happened?? i mean, internally and all?”

“   I REALLY DO LIKE DIANA,  THOUGH.  seriously.  real good step mom material;  i’d bet she’d be the type to  spoil  us,  too.  you know,  as long as we stay on her good side.   ”   and clearly,  that meant to simply be good(ish)  around diana  -  or include her in the pranks.    “   oh,  totally  !  i mean,  kinda.  babs lets me get away with stuff and since i have,  you know,  working legs  -  i drive her around from time to time.   ”   cue a wink,  she’ll catch the keys  -  GRANTED,  babs gets scared each time she’s behind the wheel,  but  …  its fine.  bette probably doesn’t even care.    “   lets go  !  which baby am i driving  ?   ”

          arms stretching when steph catches the keys, she hums. “i mean, who DOESN’T? she’s what a real hero looks like. and she’d love us, because again, who doesn’t? she’ll fit in just FINE. and hey, if bruce doesn’t want her, i could slip in a word to kate. she’s probably HALF IN LOVE with diana already. — kidding, but y’know, we could always . . . play matchmaker?? talk about bruce to diana, diana to bruce, all that fun stuff.” it’s no secret they all — at least, bette’s pretty sure it’s all of them — adore diana, really. it’s hard not to. she’ll nod in response to the younger’s reassurance, circling the car to get over to the passenger seat. “THIS baby. like her?? alright, stephanie, i trust you. get those working legs, well — working.”

“i don’t see what is wrong with bring one of the old guys for a senior discount at the movies. It saves me money, it saves them money everyone is happy! Except for maybe the workers but working at a movie theater is no dream job either.” By one of the old guys Natasha means Barnes or Rogers and she was fully willing to argue with employees over their ages and how it should count despite neither of them looking a day over twenty nine. 

          “that’s a CHEEKY move. cheating, even.” tone light, it’s clear bette isn’t going to STOP her. “you can borrow my grandpa of a cousin if you ever need an old guy, though.” bruce is more of kate’s cousin, — at least, with how the world knows them — not hers, but same difference.

      “  BRUCE SURE KNOWS HOW TO PICK US  -  do you think diana would be considered a part of the batfam  ?  asking for christmas gifts reasons.  she’d be a  HELL OF A  step mom,  though.   ”   it’s half joking,  half not;  stephanie  does  adore diana prince.  a bright grin on her lips,  loose ponytail whipping around as she nods.    “   absolutely;  who’s  RIDE  is it this time around  ?  because totally you’re right,  it’d totally make me feel about 10 times richer than i am.   ”

          “mmhm, YOU BET ! — about knowin’ how to pick us, and diana being the new step mama. bruce sure does know how to pick ‘em too, don’t you think?” a knowing smile rests on bette’s lips, glancing to share a look with the younger blonde. “oh, THAT? that’s kate’s. perks of having a cool older sister cousin, y’know?? you might want to be careful with it, though. i haven’t exactly . . . told her i was borrowing. but i’m sure you’re a fine driver, steph! ready??” she skids to a stop at that, tossing the keys in the air, grin gracing her features as she waits for stephanie to catch it.

          “everyone KNOWS that batfam’s got the best girls in town. we’re just . . . like, the BEST OF THE BEST, y’know?? cass and babs are amazing, but they can’t really compare to the OG blondes. we’re one of — two of a kind.” hazel eyes fix themselves up to the road, — where a shiny white sedan waits — linking arms with stephanie as she takes her arm off the girl’s shoulders. “feeling particularly BOLD? i could let you drive my new ride. it’ll compensate for being young, dumb and broke. at least, the broke part. we’ll further fate along when we get there.”

          “riiiight . . . NOTED, then. remind me to turn to a liquor store next time i’m in doubt of what to get you for your birthday present.” she has to admit she doesn’t know jessica well, except they’re in the SAME LINE OF WORK, but she says it like gift-giving with the private investigator is a normal occurrence anyways. “got any particular ones you like mixing into your coffee? like, any brands or something?? not sure how the café-liquor business works.”

        A DRAMATIC SHAKE OF HER HEAD,  she’ll cast an easy glance at bette.    “  easy answer of  NOBODY   -   we’re the best blondes in the batfam,  period.   ”    a roll of doe eyes,  she thinking of the youngest robin to nag the two of them.    “   ooh,  i have another idea  !   ”   a single finger will lift up as she turns to the other blonde,  excitement striking in her blue eyes.    “   what did you have in mind for bruce  ?  ABSOLUTELY,  i’m the perfect person for the job.  i’d just like to be able to tag team it,  is all;  pin the blame on  the favourite  robin.   ”

          she doesn’t correct stephanie — doesn’t BOTHER to. a laugh escapes her lips. “true. every other blonde? CANCELLED. except for cass, if she wants to dye her hair blonde to match us, i guess. babs can stay too.” herding the younger girl in the direction AWAY from the manor, her eyes twinkle as she adds, “dinner? then we can talk details about your latest heist, brainstorming and all. it’s even on me this time. you know i’m here to help damian live up his reputation.”

          there’s a grin stretching across her lips at the words, pulling the younger girl up against her side. “ WHO ELSE? ” comes her reply, eyes meeting stephanie’s as they share a look. “ah, DAMIAN,” she says, head nodding slowly as if she’s thinking. “the FAVOURITE robin.” she doesn’t spend much time in the wayne manor — preferring to do her OWN THING with her other cousin — but everyone knows damian’s the family’s little bitch.  “  but — i think everyone’s LOOKING FORWARD to someone being finally brave enough to pick on bruce. aren’t you the perfect person for the job?? i’ll even help, and i’m sure i can convince kate, too.  ”
