                  Despite her best efforts, it’s difficult not to phrase the question in a way that doesn’t feel potentially barbed. Not that he was all that worried about her becoming upset with him in particular– but rather that it may, in fact, simply upset her. After all, he’s more than well aware of her own prior commitments, and goes to great lengths to remind himself that he is under no entitlement to her time or attention regardless of how lonesome he becomes… Anyone could tell that she was doing the very best she could for someone like him.

But on the other hand…. she expects him to be honest…

                       “– Resentment is… a r-rather strong word to use…“ SIGMA murmurs after a moment of hesitation, his eyes locked on hers with muted intensity, studying what he could of her expression. “It isn’t… as if I hate you for it. I… I did ask for this, didn’t I…?“

“I did not ask for your help because I believed you would make things easier.“

                          “… And… As difficult as it could be for me when you would leave the apartment, I feel as though it was good for me, in a way, to have to learn to trust that you would always come back…. I…. I had a very, very d-difficult time with that recognition.“

It was very tough– but… you still tried so hard to make it work and to keep me safe, even from your own teammates…There were plenty of times I would cry and cry when you would leave– mostly in the beginning– but then you would come home, and I would be okay again... It… It felt a little unfair, but I always knew it was for the better.“

                          “… You did everything I asked for in return for helping you escape from TALON, and despite the difficulties, anxieties and trepidation I experienced, we are even…“

“… It may have even brought us closer, if you think about it…“
