Dogs the Magicians characters would have

Quentin: A small terrier he found in the streets. It's a little bit more chill than most terriers and a good lap dog. Loses its fucking mind every time Quentin walks into the room, even if he was only gone for like a minute. Will get upset if it's not being showered with affection.

Julia: An old German Shepherd that's an Iraq vetern - she found out you can adopt retired war dogs and hopped on that shit so fast. It also has PTSD and they take care of each other. Only trusts the people that she trusts.

Alice: An elegant and gentle Sheltie. Her dog is basically her best friend. She also carries it around her apartment a lot because Shelties are portable like that. Spends hundreds of dollars keeping it perfectly groomed.

Eliot: A long haired piebald Dachshund with baby blue eyes; very much show quality. When first saw it, he was drunk and looking over Quentin's shoulder as he browsed through adoption sites. He spotted that puppy and straight-up starting sobbing about how cute it was. Went out and got it the next day. He carries it with him everywhere.

Margo: You'd think she'd get a toy breed or something super elegant, but she shocks everyone by getting the biggest dog she can find - a King Shepherd. It has its own throne and eats only the finest meals. It's big enough to put its paws up on Eliot's shoulders and weighs like 150 pounds, but she has perfect control over it. Nobody has fucked with her since she adopted it.

Penny: He has a Doberman, obviously. But a goofy one. It's not cropped or docked, it won't listen to any commands, and it just follows him around with its tongue hanging out. He fucking loves that dumb dog, though.

Kady: Got a Shiba Inu. Realizes it was a mistake. The dog is more stubborn than she is. Has a guilty pleasure of going on Facebook and making memes about how Shibas are gonna take over the world, probably. It's still spoiled rotten despite being a diva already.

Josh: A big, doofy yellow lab mix. He kind of sort of overfeeds it so it's a little overweight, but he's since put it on a diet. He'll still share his food with it when he has the munchies. You know when he's smoking because the dog will be outside, and he won't let anyone else smoke in front of it either - he doesn't want it to get sick. Kind of steals the show from him at parties.

Fen: Asks Eliot for a dog. Eliot tells her she can go adopt one. She says "Okay!" and comes back with three. Fen is the ultimate dog mom and all of them are spoiled rotten.

Marina: No dogs, she's allergic. But she's well on her way to becoming a crazy cat lady.

Dean Fogg: An old hound dog that he's had since it was a puppy. Doesn't have a mean bone in its body. Will put its head in your lap if you're sitting in his office.

Todd: Goes out one day and adopts ALL THE SHELTER DOGS. Brakebills isn't too pleased, so he keeps like two and makes sure all the rest find good homes with the other students.
