hc + 💔 for a headcanon about a sad experience

One might think that Hilda's noted sad experience came from being a cub, before she was put in captivity. Such is not the case.

Hilda was so young when she was placed in captivity that she doesn't really remember much different.

But she does remember the friend she made within the circus as a cub. Her best friend within the circus was an elephant named Ellis, and the two found comfort in one another. Ellis would talk about her days out in the wild, and Hilda would listen. This went on for a few years.

Over time, Ellis became more and more aggressive to the trainers of the circus. She lashed out more frequently, and encouraged Hilda to fight back. Hilda was cowardly — She never could bring herself to even snarl at the ringmaster.

When Ellis had gotten enough of her abuse, she lashed out for the final time. The elephant was taken away after that, and Hilda never saw her again — She tries not to believe that Ellis was killed, but has her doubts.

Well, she guessed it was that simple.

Getting caught up in an entanglement of fence wire hadn't really been on her list of to-dos, but she was nonetheless freed by a set of kind hands.

Perhaps she should have thought things over before she spoke, but instinct of gratitude took over in situations like this. The dirty mutt's ears perked forward as she regarded the woman, a human's voice coming somewhere from the canine,

"Thanks, I guess."

Not very specifically, but any kind of duck meat is her favored for its slight gamier taste. Plus, if it's up to her for the hunting, she has fun ripping the feathers off.

Well, like all dogs, Nippy has an affinity for meat. Raw, cooked, seasoned, unseasoned — It doesn't much matter to her. Her favorite meat is waterfowl. She also is surprisingly scrappy, and has found that she likes combat. The adrenaline rush of biting baddies and the triumph of trotting away with a head held high is like biscuits to her! She's not a fan of the heat, so swims in rivers and lakes are a must.

Because she's scrappy, she has a habit of... Well, not listening all of the time. If she sees something she wants to go after, she's bolting, and god help anything that gets in her way. She's also not above making rude comments. She has very little filter on that smart mouth.

For her main Fallout verse, Nippy has traveled quite a bit. She has been through Hell in a handbasket, but she knows The Commonwealth like the back of her paw, and all of the best spots to beg sucker scavs for a scrap of meat. She favors Goodneighbor — The ghouls there understand her plight and see her as more than just a talking dog.

She knows The Institute better than all of the above, of course, but has vowed to never return to her birthplace after the treatments she's endured.

hc + 🎭 for an arts-/crafts-themed headcanon

Jane has always been a creative type; she just never delved so deep into her interests until post-death. Prior to her second life, she focused more on the roles of being a proper lady in the eyes of her parents and peers — But in quiet, she held a fascination in the anatomy of animals, particularly their bones. At one point, she had wanted to get into bone carving, but never got around to it.

Upon her death, she knew she had the option to get into her interests, and thus, she did. Taxidermy became her main craft, and she was a complete natural at it. She mainly stuffs local wildlife like deer and coyotes, but can be commissioned for otherwise.
