I don’t understand when people complain about Ariel being the one to steer the ship into Ursula and act as if Eric didn’t do anything to save her, too.

He did. Quite a bit.

First time:

Literally, when she turned back into a mermaid, everyone around them recoiled but he held her tighter and even advanced towards a fucking squid to keep her away from Ariel. Then, immediately, ignoring his mother’s pleas, ran off to fetch a rowboat.

Second time, was before and during the Ursula fight. He fucking rows out and plunges into deep, very dark waters to throw a harpoon at Ursula, who was just about to zap Ariel with her own father’s trident.

And then when they get above water, Ariel pleads for him to get to shore, he refuses to abandon her. Then when they’re both hanging off Ursula’s crown, he says “Take my hand” and they jump together.

And finally, had he not been in full view of Ursula, she would’ve eventually noticed Ariel on the ship and prevented her from turning the wheel in the first place.

He was willing to die, so Ariel could kill the sea witch.

Considering he was more than a little disadvantaged cuz he can’t breathe underwater, he did a hell of a lot.
