What has changed though is the fact that I feel like there's a bit of a fire being lit under my arse with regards to drawing. I wasn't diligently trained by all these masters of their craft for me to just not draw, and just stare at a wall.

it just feels like shit, you know. Not even on a personal level, but like... this loss affects so many things. The local cultural scene. The local arts. The day-to-day of my department. It almost feels like watching a parent figure die, you know? Even as an adult, rational brain says 'it'll happen' but when it does happen, you're still like 'this is wrong. Ctrl+Z. This is not the Law.'

A bunch of us colleagues and former students are just bummed as hell. Nobody's crying or rending clothes, we're all just feeling like... this feeling emotionally when you're nauseated, except you're not physically nauseated, but your brain is at an emotional state where it is anticipating vomit.

This is a digital portrait that my alma mater's media department commissioned of me, of the meister of printing and graphic arts.

Yesterday, meister Ardo Sägi died. I don't quite know how to enter through the department door without seeing the long-suffering, tall Mr. Denim-on-denim there. He always was mad as hell, but he's also kind of responsible for me embracing heavy textures in my artwork.

And I don't even get to be there for the funeral, or the funeral feasts that follow, because it is September and I only arrive in early October!

the discourse around girl's girls not gatekeeping their clothes (the classic 'love your skirt' 'oh thanks it's this brand from that store'), you know... Nah. Naaah. I gatekeep my clothes like it was treasure. In no small part because I never buy new, and most of it is some obscure vintage thrift find, or straight up doesn't have labels on anymore.

However, the other part of my aggressive gatekeeping is that it's a fucking marketing tactic. 'Girl's girls help other girls consuuuuume!'

You don't need that clothing item I'm wearing. You don't. And if you can't sleep or eat three weeks after seeing it on me, you will do what I do, and go thrifting and perfect your Vinted search queries until you find something like it. Like a normal person. Because I ain't your google, spitting out instructions on how to buy-buy-buy some more. Especially since this type of 'I see it, I want it, I get it' type of clothes shopping will just lead to a wardrobe full of shit you don't wear, because my clothing items aren't worn in a vacuum, they are a part of an ensemble which even my tattoos and my posture and my personality are a part of.

I gatekeep because you neither need it or truly even want it. And if you do, you are more than capable of finding something similar on your own.

It's also kind of why I never look up fashion inspo for myself. It's just marketing in the end, and it's designed to get you to consume clothes instead of actually using clothes.

what was supposed to be a quick project of sewing a skirt is turning out to be an exercise in frustration with regards to the gathers. I did start out with math and trying to do it evenly but linen can be tricky as fuck and I have ADHD so at some point you just kind of give precision up. Oh well, it's supposed to be a practical piece so who cares if the gathering's off, it's a fucking pettycoat not a prettycoat so w/e
