fairy rings
i thought dying would make you remember me but amnesia has never been kind to me sometimes you'll tell me about myself the ways that my living ghost haunts you my shadow will creep into passing conversations as my feathers press into oil under your weight if the falling trees could speak, would they speak of me- or quietly crush the mushrooms that mark my grave?

The fox and kestrel dance alone In the soul, a place unknown Known only to the fragile heart A place where feelings fall apart The fox snaps its jaws, pounces and cries As the kestrel climbs the skies Orange and blue, orange and grey As much a fight as it is play Gnashing claws and gentle fangs Locked together, hunger pangs Paws on dirt, wings on air Careful, floating, holding there Coarse as fur, light as feathers Soft and careful, cruel endeavors One of reason, one of light One of fear, one of flight The rocks will sing, the stars will call The sky, the ground, caught in the thrall Ten thousand feet, or down below There’s nowhere either one can go Motion-sick and farther still Gentle touches, looks that kill Come down- maybe, maybe not Fly with me- now that’s a thought And if I fall, I have no wings- Only if we are separate things Two sides of a spinning dime Up, then down, a waltz through time Two parts of the whole, never less Puzzling, flapping, shared distress A divided creature, a chimera, in truth Cycling back into its youth Will they land, or will they soar It’s a want, a need, a war Grasping fiercely, every word A heart and mind, a fox and a bird

chipped nail polish in fluttering parking lots
six pm moonlight and a melting skull
failing feet carry me home, slow
no one is waiting there anyways
jet plane music and streetlight crosses
time flows in its monotony, unwavering cruelty
the air is colder than it's ever been
you can never keep me warm again

roadkill
satan sees the world through the headlights on the highway heretical darkness hides the deals we make at crossroads the asphalt whispers promises painted in golden yellow boundary lines shift and weave, astigmatisms of the witching hour the molten ground glitters in an unfinished halo obsidian rumbles as dead air churns the morning stars are shining at me i can no longer see god and i'm smiling

kick the poets from their thrones we don't need them where we are everywhere you look- it's all a love poem falling into it on its own terms willing- or unwilling it doesn't matter it will never wait for you tumbling without looking up who was gravity pulling? my body, my knees the veins in my hands pressed to the holy dirt
