#ateez#jung wooyoung#like i've seen people say “oh it's just the bleached eyebrows and makeup!” and i'm kinda like...well he himself said he's lost like 8kgs#so like it's not insane to think that no - it's not just the makeup and the bleach???

The way fans will immediately dogpile on someone that points out a time that an idol clearly and deliberately alluded to being something other than cishet really has me convinced that there are idols that could go and publicly makeout with someone the same sex as them and some of y'all would be like "they're just a good ally!"
#kpop#and no this is not to say we should be placing explicit labels onto idols that they haven't publicly placed on themselves#but a lot of idols have found ways to signal “hey i'm queer - no i'm not going to tell you my specific labels but i'm def not cishet!”#and we should acknowledge it when they do it#also the fact fans who get up in arms about people doing so really just goes to show how many people still view straight as the default#like i can think of like 5 male idols off the top of my head that have repeatedly talked about being attracted to other men#but anytime any one brings it up there are people either treating it like a joke or going “we don't know for sure that he's not straight!”#and if i was any of these idols i would probably just be losing my mind seeing fans do this

I've been watching a good number of queer Taiwanese films with mlm romances lately and after noticing how many of the reviews are just "omg I'm so shocked to see that this isn't like your standard BL" I feel like some people are just completely unaware of the fact that BL is a specific type of mlm media. Not every movie, show, etc. with mlm protagonists is a BL, in fact some creators actively reject the label - sometimes as a way of avoiding stereotypes re: the genre, sometimes as a criticism of it, and sometimes both.
#tali rants#like it's not that big a deal#but there's something irksome about seeing a dozen reviews that provide zero insight into the film beyond 'it's not like other BLs!'#when it's not even the genre of the film#this was spurred by seeing a review of dear tenant and how they liked it more bc it wasn't like other bls#which of course it's not like other bls bc it's not one it's a drama about a man caring for his deceased boyfriend's family & their grief#the craziest time I saw someone say this was in a review of marry my dead body - like man they weren't even in a real romantic relationship

You cannot tell me that Wooyoung doesn't go find the parents and offer free babysitting anytime he goes on a show with kids.

learning that formal/court-ordered joint custody arrangements aren't going to effect until 2026 in Japan & that it wasn't uncommon for kids to be separated since joint custody had no legal recognition until now made the entire "secret twin brother" plot in Digimon Frontier make a whole lot more sense.
#i was reading about how Japan's parliament amended their custody laws to make joint custody possible#and thought about how when i was a little kid i loved digimon frontier and the twins were my favorite#digimon#digimon frontier#kouichi kimura#kouji minamoto#still insane for making it so kouichi found out about kouji from his grandma while she was on her deathbed

on my hands and knees begging god to let the "roronoa zoro is a rabid guard dog in the body of an unbathed neanderthal brute with the iq and eq of a sentient piece of wood" characterization/interpretation fucking die already.
#one piece#roronoa zoro#i picked up op again but i forgot how much of a minefield the tags are so im crashing out#anyways this is tangential & not really related but thinking about this and my last post and#how if I had the bandwidth & the words i could write a whole ass novel about zoro and sanji being two sides of the same coin when it comes#to internalized toxic masculinity & the ways fanon chooses to interpret this reflects what's normalized or even treated as a positive

Let's be completely clear in the real world Sanji would be one of those "nice guys" who say all the right things to and about women but whose motivations have nothing to do with actual respect for women, whose motivations are more-so centered around a curated image of themselves that they want people to believe. It's especially clear when we stop and look at which women he does and does not apply his beliefs to. And all of is intricately linked to the toxic masculinity he grew up around and the fact the one person to show him unconditional love was his mother but let's not romanticize it into something it's not.
I saw someone say that Sanji doesn't love women as much as he loves the /concept/ of women that he's created in his mind and...yeah that's a pretty good way of putting it. Over-idealizing an entire group of people to the point that you cannot treat them like they're average human beings isn't respect or romantic it's patronization and objectification. (would recommend reading about benevolent vs hostile sexism if interested in learning how this plays out in the real world)
And to be clear what is probably one of the most annoying things about fandom's babygirlification of Sanji and the entire "it isn't sexism he just loves and protects women!" argument is that his problematic behaviors are, or at least could be, part of what makes him a complex character and complex characters are infinitely more interesting. Sanji places a lot of importance on caring for and protecting the people around him AND he has a very toxic relationship with gender and masculinity. These two things inform each other and the ways they manifest!
#one piece#vinsmoke sanji#black leg sanji#we can spend eons talking about what kinds of misogyny are worse than others or#whether or not having good intentions matters#but denying that the resulting behavior isn't still sexism is silly#anyways oda himself & shonen as a genre still has a significant amount of sexism to work through#which negatively impacts the way he handles his characters and their sexism#like oda has talked about sanji's pervertedness & sexism being a character flaw but he also spends more time using it as a comedic device#than anything else

The idea of the Sakamotos being parental towards Shin/Lu/Heisuke is so cute but also so amusing because Taro and Aoi are only 6 and 5 years older than Shin respectively.
Like yes I've been a parent since kindergarten these are my children.
#sakamoto days#taro sakamoto#aoi sakamoto#shin asakura#lu shaotang#heisuke mashimo#when i looked up the wiki and saw that sakamoto was 27 and Shin/Heisuke were 21#sakamoto's - part convenience store and part home for wayward assassins and ex-triads

So I have an excel sheet where I track & write comments about what films and shows I'm watching & right now I'm like 5 minutes into the last episode of Oppan (@isaksbestpillow is a gift to the universe); clearly I wish someone would smack Daichi's father in the head.

The Summer Hikaru Died is like. what if you believed you were a disgusting monster for being gay. but then you meet a real monster, and over time you start to believe that even this monster deserves to be safe and happy, and it's the first time you start allowing yourself to believe that maybe you do too. what if I cried one million tears forever

"we can't take the implications behind Hypnos' dialogue seriously he's the comic relief" me screaming into the void: whether intentional or not comedy is a commentary on some part of a character and/or the viewer/reader's reality! hypnos' out of pocket comments about his family would not land if no actual tension between them existed.
#hades game#hades supergiant#hypnos hades#this is also part of why humor is not universal and culture specific!#not hades specific but both writers & readers/viewers do themselves a disservice by treating the implications behind comedy as meaningless#whether its in a book game movie or tv show#just because someone's words and actions are comedic in nature doesn't mean they're a flat character#or that you can't gain any insight into their world feelings or relationships from them

I don't know I just find Chronos & Nyx, Nyx & Hypnos, and Nyx & Eris' relationships to be very good examples of how caring about someone or loving them isn't always enough to have a strong relationship with them. Because sometimes the way you approach things and the standards you put in place does more to deteriorate your relationship than it does to support the other person's growth; even when you're doing what you think is in everyone's best interest.
#hades supergiant#nyx hades#hypnos hades#eris hades#just think feeling shunned by your family for being who you are to the point you decide you don't care about what happens to them#or having such a distant relationship that you'd sooner believe that it's hades of all people giving you praise before it being your parent#is just depressing#yes i know hypnos' dialogue is supposed to be comedic but the implications are still sad#i have a love-hate relationship with media that presents the comic relief as being someone other characters find to be a nuisance anyway#like i love the rare occasion where writers use it as another way to explore complicated topics & relationships#& hate that it's usually just reduced to being a schtick like “haha isnt it funny how disproportionately annoyed ppl are by them lmao”#anyways getting back on topic#this was spurred by me thinking about how much dialogue w/ the chthonic gods talking about how they're distant with each other there is
