while quincy was the one to take her under his wing and guide her... it was actually aoi that helped her be truly comfortable and fit into the times™️ since kogai was still very very very anxious at the start of 1999, fresh from the Dread, i think aoi's sunshine would've helped a lot..... i joked that kogai declared their bestfriendship through making onlyne fanart for her LMAO.... they both give a very unassuming impression.. amplified when you put them together because they're practically frolicking. hooked elbows and bubble tea and music everything whimsy. but a slight against one is a declaration of war against the other. aoi's Vicious™️ streak and kogai being kogai. she was there for her when Things™️ happened

minerva basically unofficially adopted her. i think she would've recognized her language when she insulted velimir and approached her about it — since a lot of time has passed, kogai's language sounds like gibberish but Discernible gibberish. that is HER BABY and she will be taught PROPER LANGUAGE! minerva being a bit tough with her at the start will not really be a problem she's had a toxic mom before it's nothing to her. she gets invited to the book club but she's kind of a loser since she hasn't read anything after the talss of duviri. busy on the #Grind.

Do you think your Drifter and their partner would hold some kind of marriage ceremony at some point in the 1999 loops? Hard to officiate something that would technically get reset every year. Would that matter to your Drifter? Do they even care about the concept of marriage, or ar they happy being as they are with their partner?

i was also thinkin really hard about kogai & her parents

her mother aside for a bit, i was thinking a bit about her father.. while not being as harsh as her mother, he's kinda complicit through inaction.. in romanian the word "fata" can refer to both a girl and a daughter. it sounds more distant than the dedicated word for daughter ("fiica" and "fiica-mea" for my daughter). i thought in my canon wally would also call kogai "fata" instead of kiddo, like how her father referred to her >_>

also on her mom again, since i have a picture now it's a bit easier to imagine.. i wanted her to look just sort of intimidating, but all-in-all pretty unassuming and still frail.... she would call the way she treated kogai love, but in the end, it's about herself — her daughter is her flesh, so she ought to be held to the same standard. and of course, she can't keep up. all that leaves is an insecure mess because she can't satisfy her mother, her only pillar of support. and i think while she was so cruel, kogai wouldn't have had anything else, so she saw it as her problem that she couldn't keep up. when she's depressed because of Everything, she thinks it's her fault, so she calls out to the actual reason: mama svinecea. when the adults went crazy on the zariman, kogai already saw her as so holy that it didn't even cross her mind she could be affected. she was just wondering where mother is

-> i also thought it'd be yummy if the operator eventually killed svinecea from below, getting drenched in void remains and looking her in the... face? while the drifter did it from above, where she didn't really have to look; and came away with much less physically than the operator. the operator locked the fuck in

i was also thinking about hair. it's important — where i'm from long hair is like a traditional symbol of beauty, and often braided. so i gave svinecea super long hair.. and baby kogai, it's like.. kinda short but not too short. the operetor cuts her hair even shorter, leaving behind it's significance for practicality.. but the drifter still holds onto it, lets it grow long to braid. (< loves expressing stories through hair)

while i am on the topic of protokogai/maria... actually lemme explain abt the prevprev post. under the cut

because of her upbringing i think she would've ended up a lonely and isolated sort person.. like drifter/operafor kogai as well. and it's kinda self-imposed with the hex because that's what she's comfortable with... with the added layer of being. extra scary. she can't hide her talons, put them down or explain them away. she'd rather be alone. not that she's there for too long because she's sick — especially after missions where people seek each other for solace. she's just out of it..

before drifter the fixer™️ comes along i think she would've only considered lettie as her friend, because that's who she'd spend most of her time among the hex with.. mostly because she has to. but sometimes they talk and that's enough to fulfill maria's definition of best friends forever. (< very very lonely person) lettie's just kinda like.. okay leave this poor girl be and if it helps treat her i'll let her talk.

when the drifter in that timeline arrives i think it would be nice if like, they get both of them to like start over and Actually become friends. maria stops being a weirdo and lettie actually gets to see her

tl:dr; maria thinks very highly of lettie and is lowkey delusional about them being best friends. lettie's just like ok

also i think it would take koquin forever to get together. tgis firewood is shit it burns so slow. because they're both weird about people and really mean but i think she would have a huge crush on him anyway but she needs to act mysterious (he said hi when they passed each other and that night she giggled and kicked her feet so hard it sounded like a mortal struggle)
