Yeah I hear these kinds of comments a lot. Do they really think that the trans people in Florida voted for the anti-trans bathroom bills? Or the bill that forces teachers and staff to deadnane trans and non binary children not out to their very likely transphobic parents? Do they think we wanted a bill that allows healthcare workers to deny care based on conscience based objection?
We are a minority population here in a state quite literally known for old people and rich people moving here or having property here.

If you decide to come here as someone who looks androgynous or trans please know the risks. Please take care of yourself and be safe. The beaches aren't worth it.

Average sign before a trail in Florida
Everyone in town knows the Rules of the Woods: 1) stay on the designated trails, 2) keep talking to a minimum, 3) if you hear someone calling your name, no, you didn't, and 4) don't go out there at night. Outsiders think we're crazy, but we know the truth: there are Humans lurking in the Woods.

Hiii this is from the same person who saw the iguana today! So im sorry to bother or ask if this is a dumb question but so im going to a beach in florida tomorrow with my mother and her friend and i was just wondering about any sort of etiquette? I just don’t want to be disrespectful or rude or just in general do something wrong so i was wondering if you knew anything to say like to or don’t do
(I have common sense and stuff but i’ve never been to a real beach before im from up in tennessee so yeah…)
Again sorry to bother, I just don’t like to be a burden or annoyance to peopleee ty for ur time though
Oh! Of course no worries!
Since you saw an iguana I assume you are very far south and on the gulf side? (Feel free to correct me, it doesn't make much of a difference either way).
Some things to keep in mind while at the beach are:
Avoid areas with fence posts and brightly colored plastic. It is a turtle egg nest so just be mindful of those.
Do not walk of sand dunes there should be signage showing where the sand dunes are.
Don't set up between where someone else is set up and the water. Its just kind of rude.
If you're planning on digging a hole for any reason, remember to fill it in before leaving because it can trap baby turtles when they leave the nest.
Clean up after yourself. It seems obvious but you will not believe some tourists.
Keep an eye on surfers and boogie/body boarders when they ride a wave.
When walking out in the water on parts of the water/beach with less people be sure to slide your feet to avoid stepping on stingrays. If there's a lot of people then you should be fine.
When taking stuff home from the beach, the things that are OK to take are: empty shells, sand, small rocks, sea glass, and dead sand dollars or sea stars/starfish. Do Not take any shells with organisms in it, coral (even dead coral), large rocks, and anything alive
Just be kind, reapply your sunscreen every 1-2 hours, bring more water than you think you need, and be mindful of wildlife

yeah during winter sometimes it will get too cold (below 50) and they'll freeze up (because they're cold blooded) in the winter and fall out of the trees. Once it warms up they're usually fine though

If you are currently unaware of what's going on in Florida:
As recently as June 2025, the Trump administration began construction for a concentration camp dubbed "Alligator Alcatraz" in the heart of the Florida Everglades. It is made up of tents and thousands of beds inside cages, under the sweltering Florida heat.
Tumblr media
The Trump administration have praised how isolated this environment is, claiming that the "dangerous wildlife" and "unforgiving terrain" will keep kidnapped people inside. According to Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier, if "people get out, there's not much waiting for them other than alligators and pythons." They are thrilled about the abuse and potential death of real people.
The amount of pride they have for a literal concentration camp is sinister. Florida republicans are even selling merch and establishing mascots.
Tumblr media
They started detaining people last week, and they are treating them like “rats in an experiment.”
There are protests happening in and around the area. If you can, I would encourage you to show up for your community at one of these protests in South Florida. With that being said, the concentration camp is located adjacent to sacred Miccosukee and Seminole land. Please be mindful of the space.

It's always morally correct to commit any act of sabotage that will slow, confound, or otherwise halt any design of a fascist regime. No act is too small.
