"I made a nest for you. You can sleep in that, if you want."
It's quiet, and it's gruff, and it's almost halting, because while Nicholas D. Wolfwood can cardsharp with the best of them or bluff his way around whatever civilization they happen to pass through, right now he is having the most difficult time getting a handle on whatever the hell this is.
They're camping for the night, and he has taken the liberty of slinging a couple of tarps between their bags set horizontal on a less-sandy stretch of stone, all protected with an overhang. He thumbs in that direction and doesn't look directly at Vash, instead watching in his peripheral.
"Or don't. But you need some damn sleep, Needle-Noggin."
Tumblr media
@full-of-mercy
-
His head snaps up, tilting at a rather uncanny angle as the words pique his interest, something inside him flickering with appeal at the choice of term.
Nest? Nest's were warm, comfy, safe-
Vash visibly shakes himself, giving a nervous little chuckle, glancing between Wolfwood at the little structure like he isn't sure what to do.
He isn't, actually. This is completely unexpected and weirdly flattering?
"Um, I appriciate it but I'm really not tired-"

You've Changed
"When did you stop caring?"
"You've grown so cruel."
"I can't believe I used to love you."
"You're not who you were."
"There's this anger in you."
"I can see it in your eyes."
"Why do you hate so strongly?"
"Who broke you?"
"You bottle up all that rage and the only person it hurts is you."
"You're full of things you won't say."
"You could be better than this."
"You were better than this."
"I can't believe what they did to you."
"Do you not care?"
"All that hurt, all that pain... was it worth it?"
"I don't even recognise you."
"Why do you think it's okay?"
"I wish I could find you again."
"It's a quiet hurt, isn't it?"
"You could be okay again. If you let me in."

friends to lovers prompts ˗ˏˋ꒰ 🐚 ꒱
— hugging and absentmindedly kissing their neck, resulting in mortification for one of them
— one being shorter and it being a source of great enjoyment for the other
— hang-outs that start to feel more and more like dates
— sleeping in the same bed, as they’d often do, but one morning waking up cuddling
— nickname turning into petnames
— one having to sit in the other’s lap when space is tight and them both blushing like crazy over it
— being overprotective of them in front of prospective partners
— one giving the other their jacket / covering them with it when they fall asleep
— sharing clothes in a totally friendly way
— telling them they deserve better (and silently wanting to be the one who gives it to them)
— valuing their opinions/approval above everyone else’s
— memorising their favourite things and treating them when they have a bad day
— cuddling for comfort in a Very platonic manner
— defending them against everyone, even when they’re not there to witness it
— being distrustful of the other’s bfs/gfs

“You fell asleep in my arms. it was kind of adorable.”
Wolfwood sounds a little (a lot) smug about it, and maybe he is. Maybe it's a little bit of a front, too, because relief and affection crinkle in the corners of his eyes in equal measure.
Vash is technically his mark. Granted, a mark he is to deliver alive, safe and sound. He shouldn't be doing this. He really, really shouldn't be doing this at all, not so close, not with so much contact, but Vash trusts, trusts him enough to be completely vulnerable and it just. It does something. It does something to him. For him.
In for a c-cent, in for a double dollar, he guesses. (He's fucked. He is so, so fucked, and something defiant in him crows about it, revels in it, and he wonders where in the hell his sense of self-preservation went.)
Either way, he's not in a hurry to let go. Not as he tips his face forward into sleep-strewn blond fluff and exhales warm and rumbling.
Tumblr media
@full-of-mercy
-
A jaw cracking yawn answers him, canines flashing and tongue curling not unlike a cat, uncovered blue eyes blinking lazily up at him from where the blond had ended up slumped, practically curled up in his lap.
Wolfwood doesn't sound upset, so Vash tries not to feel too guilty over using the man as a pillow, leaning up into the nose nuzzled into his hair with an answering purr.
"You're comfortable" He states, wriggling it sit properly as if to prove his point, ducking his head happily into the crook of Wolfwood's neck like this is perfectly normal and no big deal. "Felt relaxed 'round you"

Lack of Sleep Starters!
pronouns and context can be changed as you see fit.
When was the last time you actually got some rest?
Alright, that's it. You're going to bed, and I'm not taking no for an answer.
Look at you! You're spilling coffee.
You have bags, and I'm not talking about the Gucci kind.
Jesus, have you been awake the entire night?
It's 4am. You need sleep.
You're safe here. You can rest now.
I promise, I'm fine. I just look tired a lot, thanks to... the tiredness.
Look, I'm okay! I've pulled all nighters before.
This isn't the first time I've gone without sleep.
I'll carry you to bed if I have to.
Do I need to baby you?
Huh? What? I'm awake, I swear!
You just ran into the wall. It's time to lie down.
Go. To. Bed. That's an order.
I made a nest for you. You can sleep in that, if you want.
Can I get an extra pillow / blanket?
Want me to tuck you in, too?
I'll check in on you in an hour. You'd better not have moved.
