       Perhaps it would have been funny if he’d only tripped ( although, that was what it looked like, and rationally he understood he should not be angry with the girl ), but it was not humorous for the young man who’d felt faint from his illness and had very nearly passed out. The collision with the ground had shaken him awake, it seemed. His jeans were ripped and his knees and palms were scraped, and he cursed beneath his breath as he pushed himself up.

                 “I’m fine,” he told her, a bit more harshly than he meant to. “I’m fine, really.”
