i got hit by the writing bug, have a few paragaphs of e Looking Respectfully at r's hands

He wasn’t alone upstairs. Jehan had remained after the meeting too, although their focus had barely been on the discussions throughout the evening and instead, they had their nose practically stuck to the page of their newest notebook. They were still writing, even hours after everyone had gone home, with the sklitch of their quill the only constant sound in the room.

Well. Not exactly. Enjolras never quite realised the presence of the accompanying sound of glass on a wooden table, but he certainly recognised the view: Grantaire, at a table directly across from Enjolras, spinning his nearly-empty bottle in his hands.

It wasn’t much, not really; Grantaire had been more distracting, more boisterous before, that night even. This was something else, it seemed, something that Enjolras couldn’t tear his eyes from. Grantaire’s fingers, thick and short, curled around the neck of the bottle, twisting it quickly, before catching it just before it spilled the ink-dark liquid that remained at the bottom of it. A moment later, he would repeat the movement, turning it the other way, then another way, with his other hand catching the bottle every time.

Although Enjolras was transfixed, Grantaire didn’t seem to be paying attention at all: instead, his eyes were fixed on the window, where the night sky was creeping in through its open crack. What he was looking at, Enjolras didn’t know, but at that moment, his focus wasn’t on Grantaire’s absent expression or even on the red of his cheeks: he was utterly consumed by his hands.
