putting my other main issues with reboots aside, I think specifically reboots of underdog main characters just can't be done justice if hollywood refuse to make them Weird and Different

for example the mean girls movie musical trailer? I had to look up which one was janis cuz all the 'average' student still look like they fell out of a tiktok for you page. originally janis and dorian are ostracized outside of just Not Being Plastics!!! because of regina!! now I would see janis and regina in the same ad on instagram

(I was gonna talk about the heathers reboot from 2018 too, but it's so far off from the original it's hard to compare, not to mention the new one skewed super conservative so wouldn't even be trying to make the same point)

sure part of it is that fashion has become more accessible and so everyone can get in on the action, but tell me the Plastics and the Heathers today wouldn't be wearing matching lulu lemon sets and hauling stanleys bullying people for having bad skin

i know these are both stories of high school social hierarchy but I can't help but think it's going to continue carrying over
