every moment of your life, from birth to death, constantly, while you aren't looking, there's some kind of weird shapes just moving around in the ocean. and the shapes are eating eachother sometimes too. and they might even dig holes. and all of this is happening during everything else that's going on. like think about the most important moment in your life. the thing that shaped you as a person. the entire time that was happening, far away, deep in the ocean, where no human has ever seen, there was some kind of wet sack with a weird protrusion flailing about in the water. maybe it even grabbed a fish. who knows. i don't. just think about that for a bit

It is almost impossible to post anything about this show without spoiling it, so just:
Pantheon is incredible. Smart, funny, great characters, wild plot lines, and big ideas and questions about the meaning of life and our technological world. I'm halfway through season 1. Highly recommend.

Kinda feel like there's some untapped meme/reaction image potential from old horror movie trailers...

Grew up protestant, but I distinctly remember when my parents separated and family got UGLY how I would pray to God that if I died, maybe that could be used as a sacrifice for reuniting my family. That if I was willing to give up the life I could have had, surely that would be enough to solve whatever was happening behind closed doors. If we were to act like Jesus, then maybe I'd be allowed to at least atone for the sins of my parents, so they could be happy again.
You hit the nail on the head (the hand? the feet??) about growing up in that environment only encouraged the extreme views of losing life for the sake of gaining something that- frankly- little minds don't understand, let alone adult minds.
i want to talk about how being catholic (and likely other forms of religious fundamentalism work similarly too, but my experience is with catholicism) encouraged my suicidal ideation and self-harm but i can't. get words around it

Okay but this is so delightful because initially the instinct in hearing literal translations is 'the humans were lazy-naming again' but taking into the historical and cultural context, it was more like 'that is my blessing bug. that bug blesses us whenever it shows up'
Like dang Ladybug I thought you were fancy but it turns out you're just God's chosen buggy
I just learned that the Russian word for “ladybug” translates to “God’s Little Cow”
