i feel like i relate to taylor swift’s music the most when it’s at its most unintelligible to normal people lol. not because we have the actual biographical experiences in common but when you get far enough removed from what's considered a "normal" experience the normal experiences become recognizable as vague points in the distance, no matter from which direction

also i do feel like every conversation about the way taylor swift approaches relationships and writing about them needs to be had with, like, a land acknowledgement-style disclaimer beforehand that she is a child star freak of nature with military helicopter parents and some obvious neurodivergent qualities that make her, in literally every regard, Not Normal

sorry but i simply cannot take anyone seriously with this argument. being horny is not a crime. acting inappropriately toward another person is a different thing from simply perceiving them in a way that scratches your brain. but you cannot make sexual thought crimes (thot crimes) a thing without it leading down an EXTREMELY homophobic, transphobic path of "the WRONG type of person PERCEIVED ME and I DID NOT CONSENT TO IT." sometimes you will be perceived by people you personally are not attracted to, and i'm sorry, but that alone is not a problem. you do not need consent to find another person attractive. being horny is fine, actually. get over it.

like I have some issues with the way our union leadership has run meetings and I have a suspicion that some of their strategies aren’t going to work but you can’t be absent from every decision making process and then be angry that the union isn’t doing what you would do. our union actually does a lot of work to try to disseminate information to the members and get them involved but when they’re too overbearing you get on slack and complain about “boundary violations” because someone was canvassing flyers around your neighborhood. “I don’t have time to keep up with everything” yeah neither do I lol that’s why I reserve a level of judgment on decisions that were made without my active participation

checking my union slack channel after not looking at it for several months has cemented my belief that digital communication brings out the worst in people. I mean some people will be unbearable no matter the mode of communication but at least in the actual meetings no one is screaming at each other because some guy who hasn’t attended a union event in months is butthurt that a decision was made by a majority vote before leadership had consulted him personally. also everyone is a grad student so every argument is expressed with the most overwrought academic rhetoric possible
