A blog dedicated to stuff that flies! (and some of my own adventures- some scuba, some glider flying - and hopefully getting back to work on my PPL in the near future)

Just acquired this little classic styled gem in preparation for the summer! Moto Guzzi V7ii Stone in blackout
It is unfortunate my aviation journey is still on hold, but I am hopeful to get an update by this summer
#my posts#motorcycle#moto guzzi#but lets be honest- this admin has the nuance of a hand grenade on regs so it may well be an unfavorable answer after all these years#hence the new (used) bike while continuing to wait#welcome to the whisper log

Unfortunate news, due to repeated paperwork deferment- flight training will be stopping for the foreseeable future. I really want to continue flying, but the time and cost of dealing with this paperwork will be great, and is already lining up to be a multi-year affair. I am redirecting my time and funds to fulfilling the requirements and will not stop until I get an actual answer.
In the meantime, I've bought a motorcycle! So at least there will still be some spice of life during this Sisiphian task

#pi speaks#it is sad but true#and unfortinately the cat is out of the bag on this one- i wont be able to get a sport pilot liscence either if i get denied#even though sport liscence doesnt itself require a medical- the denial of a previous application would bar me from earning that certificate#i may get back into ultralights again- but career 2.0 is looking more fantasy than reality these days#and for the motorcycle- i am required to keep a clean liscence if i want to get back into flying- so thatll limit shenanigans

Still waiting on the gov for paperwork, but as of now, I have completed my ground training, going for my written soon, and all flight requirements except solo for PPL are complete
#my posts#pi speaks#should go rather quickly once i get the medical in... just anxious this may be a 20k blunder due to the gov denying my med- its been 9 month#like i said in the post- i HAVE completed all other training! the money is spent! the experience gained! im just waiting on burocracy

Completed my night flying training and got to experience flying through some of the most congested airspace in the country!
Pretty much just waiting on paperwork and reviewing for final examination at this point :3

Morning preflights in the hangar, managed to sneak in a flight before some storms rolled in
Doing well with maneuvers and emergency procedures- have started working on radio calls and landings

The Pi is back in the sky!
Currently figuring out scheduling to do training while holding down my laboratory job, though with the inkling for going commercial- I will likely drop my full time job at some point to go training intensive

Weather and scheduling finally allowed me to get out flying! Did an intro flight with a local school, same one I first flew with 15 years ago
Absolutely thrilled! A bit timid on controls, but was able to pull off some basic maneuvers while maintaining altitude- not bad for nearly a decade hiatus
#my photos#self reblog#finally out flying again!#even just a few years into pilot career would pay off loans taken to get there- and better pay than a lifetime career in my current field#plus... I've been interested in flying since I was a kid- started taking lessons in highschool- redirected to gliders and owned one at 13#though to be fair- gliders were a lot more accessable to a teen mowing several lawns and taking care of pets for funds

More scuba!

Finished my backplate build and got a tank a little bit ago - so my personal kit is filled out! Still need to change out the drysuit seals, which I already have- just waiting on the weather to warm up bc the adhesive is quite noxious, so I'll be working in the garage for ventilation
I'll be installing quick change rings for the wrists and neck, quite nice - as well as adding new slimmer boots, since the old ones were too bulky to fit my fins and one has a slow leak
Hoping to get back into aviation with my PPL and maybe even go commercial after college and once I have a job to support the training. Unless I end up living by some glider sites, I may not get back into ultralight gliders unfortunately, was living the dream while I had the time to drive out to those sites - will miss the community

Pemaquid point lighthouse Spring 2018
One of the reasons why I'm adamant about having a compass and not having magnets in my kit
We were asked to collect some samples for the marine science college while we were out since we were associated with them
Water was in the low 40F /4-6C range- poor visibility in air but pretty good in the water, my buddy and I followed the rocky ridge of the edge of the cove out to sea and the ridge continues out subsurface, then headed perpendicular to that ridge to make sure we came up in the middle of the cove for our surface swim back to shore. When we surfaced we were not able to see the shore, so we did some compass navigation. Was close enough to hear people talking on shore, the fog was just pretty thick
Our jaunt west to the middle of the cove was to make sure we didnt end up on the wrong side of the peninsula and swim parallel to shore out in the open ocean.
