Nine tailed Fox
This beastie seems to resemble a fox ...
The origins of this fox seems to be that it came from Shanhaijing (classic mountains of the seas).
In one ancient myth, Yu the Great encountered a white nine-tailed fox, which he interpreted as an auspicious sign that he would marry Nüjiao. In Han iconography, the nine-tailed fox is sometimes depicted at Mount Kunlun and along with Xi Wangmu in her role as the goddess of immortality.[2] According to the first-century Baihutong (Debates in the White Tiger Hall), the fox's nine tails symbolize abundant progeny.

Fox
Foxes are small to medium sized animals that belong to several genera of the family Canidae. They have a flattened skull up wright triangular ears, slightly upturned snout and a bushy tail.
They're behaviour In the wild, the typical lifespan of a fox is one to three years, although individuals may live up to ten years. Unlike many canids, foxes are not always pack animals. Typically, they live in small family groups, but some (such as Arctic foxes) are known to be solitary.

Change of Animal
My initial idea focused on a Wolf or Dog like creature but after going to Vietnam this doesn't really make any sense to the story.
As my Lab is hidden in an Ancient Temple it would make more sense that the creature captured is all Ancient or Mythical.
I started to look into mythical creatures
Vietnamese dragon
Ghosts in Vietnamese culture
Hồ ly tinh
Kting voar
Nghê
Nine-tailed fox
From these the 2 that stood out to me that still have similarities of the Dog / Wolf were King Voar (a furry cow) or the Nine-tailied Fox. I was interested prior to this into stealth and sneaking out of the lab so to e a fox would better fit this concept.

In Chinese folklores, foxes are depicted as spirits possessed of magic powers. These foxes are often depicted as mischievous, usually tricking other people, with the ability to disguise themselves as a beautiful man or woman.
The fox spirit is an especially prolific shapeshifter, known variously as the húli jīng (fox spirit) in China, the kitsune (fox) in Japan, and the kumiho (nine-tailed fox) in Korea. Although the specifics of the tales vary, these fox spirits can usually shapeshift, often taking the form of beautiful young women who attempt to seduce men, whether for mere mischief or to consume their bodies or spirits.
