UV mapping

To insert an image for materials in Maya you have to assign a new material and select the lambert option. When the material options show up on the right side of the screen click the checkerboard next to the color slider than select file to insert an image. I imported my image for all they eyes and exported them separately and repeated the same steps for the nose and mouth planes exporting them all individually.

Coraline

Plot

Coraline moved to a new home and finds herself bored and lonely. She discovers a bricked-up passage in the wall, which opens up during the night. She stumbles into a world that appears to be a mirror image of her own, with the exception that everything is better. And everyone has eyes that have become buttons. Coraline's "other mother" encourages her to stay indefinitely if she lets her sew buttons, and Coraline realises that this parallel dimension is a trap to get her to enter so that her Other Mother can "eat up her soul." She must save her parents from the Other Mother and return home safely, relying on her wits and, of course, the help of a talking cat.

Similarities to Alice in Wonderland

-both escape real life for a better/more improved world

-going thru a magic tunnel of sorts that transports them to the other world.

Alice in Wonderland Tim Burton

Plot

Alice, a modest and independent 19-year-old, is betrothed to an English aristocrat who is a dunce. She flees the gathering at her engagement party to decide whether or not to proceed with the marriage, and after noticing an unusual rabbit, she slips down a hole in the yard. She arrives in a bizarre and surreal location called "Underland," where she finds herself in a world filled with talking animals, evil queens and knights, and furious bandersnatches, much like the nightmares she had as a child. Alice learns she is there for a reason: to defeat the terrifying Jabberwocky and reclaim the crown for the rightful queen.

Antoni Gaudi

Antoni Gaud was a pioneer of 19th-century architecture and a Catalan architect. He was one of Spain's most influential contemporary artists, and his stunning building symbolized the city's vision of Art Nouveau. Gaudí researched structure as a means of expressing creative forms while beautifully combining natural adornment with religiously influenced architectural aspects.   In the end, his architectural projects were the result of his strong Catholic faith, devotion to Spanish culture, and fascination with natural structural logic. The most famous works by Antoni Gaudí are Casa Vicens, Park Güell, the restoration of Mallorca Cathedral, the church on the Güell Estate, Casa Batlló, La Pedrera, and last but not least, the Basílica de la Sagrada Família, also known as the Sagrada Família.

Victor Horta

Victor Horta was a well-known Belgian architect known as the "Father of Art Nouveau." However, the general public did not always recognize his brilliance. Horta, who was born in Ghent in 1861, had a creative mind and learned by trial and error. Victor Horta's first Art Nouveau architectural triumphs around the beginning of the century established his reputation. However, because the Art Nouveau movement swiftly became outdated, Horta's career came to an end in a tough period.Because Victor Horta never published his work, just a few of his original ideas and plans are preserved. He even burned most of his designsd at the end of his career, but he began writing his "Mémoires" in 1939. This volume, which was only released in 1985, gives a glimpse into the architect's mind. He gives a detailed account of his ideas while creating his works.

Art Nouveau

Between 1890 through 1914, Art Nouveau was a short-lived movement that was prominent in the United States and Europe. The design is heavily influenced by natural forms like the organic fluid shapes of flowers, vines, and leaves. Although it started as an architectural movement, it quickly spread to interior design, jewelry, glassware, and poster designs.

Art Nouveau was a reactionary movement of artists and architects who were dissatisfied with nineteenth-century architecture's academic historicism. Modern technology and materials, such as glass, ceramics, and iron, were used by artists in this movement to produce their creations. The uneven shapes of the organic flowing lines give the style a sense of movement.   These advancements would allow for the incorporation of sculptural materials such as twisted iron and glass into the building's construction. This was not only applied to the exteriors of Art Nouveau homes, but also to the inside decoration and furnishings. The Art Nouveau era lasted only a few years. The style peaked just before the outbreak of World War I, spanning barely a few decades. However, many beautiful examples of Art Nouveau residences and buildings may still be found today.

Neon

How neon signs are made

Despite the fact that neon gas was once used to make neon signs, it is currently only used to make reds and oranges. In most signs, argon or an argon-neon combination is used. A little amount of mercury is added to the argon to produce a bright blue light, which improves the intensity of the light. To produce varied colors, this light impacts on a range of light-emitting phosphorescent materials coated on the inside of the glass tube. If a bright blue light is needed, optical tints in various hues can be added, or the glass can be kept clear. For special color effects, xenon, krypton, and helium gases are sometimes employed.

The electrodes on each end of a segment of lighted tubing are normally made of extremely pure iron and are enclosed in a cylindrical glass casing or envelope with one end open. The metal electrode is connected to a wire that runs through the glass envelope's closed end. With the open end protruding into the tube, the closed end is sealed into the end of the sign tubing. The sign tubing is held in place in a variety of methods. A slender steel skeleton framework supports both the tubing and the power transformer in small indoor signs. The sign is painted black to make it appear to float in space, and the framework is coated black to make it less visible.

 why choose this for an Alice game? and why is black the primary base color?  and look at the fact it seems quite like a nightclub? is this intentional? consider all these

I chose the neon aesthetic for this Alice game due to the sci fi theme and I wanted to differentiate from the fantasy design aesthetic of the original Alice in Wonderland. Black is the primary color because it make the neon details on the furniture stand out more. I also chose a darker color as the base because it  is meant to be the background for my character selection screen so I didn't want the environment to be too bright so it doesn't distract from the 3d model in front of it. I wanted the kind of nightclub aesthetic cuz usually nightclubs are prevalent in sci fi movies for example the multiple cantinas in star wars that are usually a meeting point for protagonists.

Tron Original vs Remake

Plot

Kevin Flynn is a former employee of the software firm ENCOM who currently owns and operates an arcade. Flynn has been attempting to break into ENCOM's mainframe computer in order to gain proof that ENCOM's senior executive Ed Dillinger stole five video games he developed. Dillinger's supercomputer Master Control Program, on the other hand, foils Flynn's efforts by commanding and controlling the majority of the computer systems. Lora Baines, Flynn's previous girlfriend, and her boyfriend, ace computer programmer Alan Bradley, assist Flynn in breaking into ENCOM and using Alan's security program Tron to shut down the MCP one night. However, MCP transforms Flynn into data and transports him into the computer using Lora's matter transfer program. Flynn is thrown into an electronic reality ruled by the MCP and his evil chief henchman Sark, in which computer programs are the alter-egos of their creators and are compelled to engage in gladiatorial games. Flynn sets out to destroy the MCP and assist Tron rescue the system from the MCP's control, with the help of Tron, a brave and fearless security program, and his lover, Yori. Destroying the MCP is Flynn's only option of returning to the real world.

Plot

Kevin Flynn, a computer prodigy, tells his young son about his travels in the Tron cyber world in 1989. He talks about his new friends and his emissary CLU, a program he created in his image. He pledges to take him to the Grid one day, then Flynn vanishes, leaving Sam distraught. After 20 years, his father's company ENCOM is run by the Board, who are taking the company in a different way than Flynn. Sam spends his time on the board moping about his father's disappearance and pulling a prank. Alan Bradley, his father's best friend, informs Sam one day that he received a page from his father's office phone at his arcade. Alan tells Sam that the number has been disconnected for 20 years and that's why it's so important. Alan still has hope that Flynn is alive and well, and that he hasn't abandoned his profession and Sam, so he gives Sam the keys to the arcade. Sam walks there and discovers his father's work station, where he finds himself in the Grid after entering a few codes. He is exposed to a variety of contests after being mistaken for a program, but when they realize he is not a program but a user, he is released. He is taken to the head man, whom Sam believes to be his father, but who is eventually revealed to be CLU, who forces Sam to participate in a light cycle battle. Sam is rescued by Quorra, a computer program that transports him to his father. That's when he tells Sam that CLU turned on him and was intending to invade their planet to "repair" its flaws, so he shut down the portal, trapping himself inside, and never returned.

Design Aesthetic

Tron was the main design inspiration for my project because I really like the dark backgrounds with the neon details because I feel like sci fi has to have some neon aspects of design. I also like how the neon on the outfits outlines the shape of their bodies. The neon trails the motorcycles leave behind are also one of the reason I like neon so much because it lights up the background easily.

Similarities to Alice in Wonderland

-both main characters are transported to an unfamiliar world in search for someone (Alice looking for white rabbit / Sam looking for his father)

-both are entered into a game/fight by the main antagonist (Alice and the croquet game with the queen /Sam and the light cycle battle)

Alice Resident Evil

Alice is the main character in the story. Milla Jovovich is credited as "Alice" in the end credits, however her name is not included in the end credits. The Red Queen is the AI security system that is preventing the squad from escaping. White Queen, a parallel AI, was mentioned in early draughts but only appears in Resident Evil: Extinction. Spence's character is very similar to the Cheshire Cat. "Off with her head!" would frequently be yelled by Carroll's Queen of Hearts. Anderson's Red Queen's laser corridor's first victim was beheaded. The Queen of Hearts and the Red Queen are frequently confused as the same person. 

Lewis Carroll's novel Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, also known as Alice in Wonderland, was published in 1865. It is frequently paired with its second novel, Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There, also known as Though the Looking Glass. Resident Evil made numerous references to the two novels. Anderson ordered the performers to understand their roles through the lens of Wonderland characters, according to a commentary track for that picture, but later drafts would make the references less evident.
