My Exhibition

This is my exhibition space I offered free smoothies which went down exceptionally very well I was surprised just how much people liked them and this honestly was a night to remember with a lot of interest and potential graphic designer employers people really liked the 3D printed version of my bottle and really complimented my exhibition space I really owned my space and loved the night so much with a lot of interest into my portfolio and loved the night and whole exhibition experience and will be sad that this is my last one but I hope to develop this into the supermarkets stores one day.

Exhibition- Mock Up 4

This is the mock up of my exhibition re-visited after receiving feedback from my previous mock-up with comments of ‘boring, safe and unimaginative’. I have used the Pomona coloured background to show the colour scheme of the brand and shown the silhouette of my bottle shape which is part of my USP! I have also added to this by sticking the leaf onto the board, the leaf will now be printed on thick card and laser cut out, which is also the brands unique identity for the Pomona branding. I have also improved the visuals of the bottle mock ups and my advertising.

I have improved the tables by using a more appropriate and aesthetically pleasing table that would be shown at interior design displays as I want my exhibition to look professional and stand out! I have used a more rounded table as all my branding is round and curved also used a patterned table cloth as this is something my target audience may have also this stands out on the exhibition space and the pattern is something you may see at a food or drink stall as it looks like a type of picnic table cloth and visualises food and drink.

These are my presentation boards which will be presented within my portfolio on my exhibition as I want to have my portfolio of work at the exhibition so people and potential employers can look at the work I have been producing over the three years of this course. I have kept my presentation boards simple and effective with the main final outcomes shown within my portfolio pages. 
I am really proud of my final outcomes for this project and wish to continue this project by speaking to potential clients and stores about my product and would love this to become a real product for the future this would be amazing for me to achieve this as I have thoroughly enjoyed myself and challenged my skills and abilities within this project and hope the exhibition to be a success.

I have set up an online social media presence as my target audience of the 50 plus is not as likely to use this service as they are not as online present as others I believe the carers and family members are more likely to use this service as they are more likely to notice the advertising too. I have used social networks such as, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter, which are the three most popular social networks and I have promoted my Pomona product. I have also set up a business email for people to contact the Pomona services and the company for any questions. The social media presence is on my website too for people to click on the links to take them to the social media pages. I have also included the links above to click onto and take a look on Pomona’s social media networks.

I thought to make my exhibition look even more professional I would benefit from having this roll-up banner as I noticed round town that new companies and products have a banner to get noticed and promote their products and thought this would be a great way to make my exhibition look a lot more professional and stand out from the rest of the exhibition. I will send this to be professionally printed for my exhibition, I have included mainly the social media and website on here as this is what is usually on these banners for consumers to find the brand online on social media or websites.

Cinema 4D Product Design

This is my new developed set of smoothie bottles as I had issues with the previous D shaped bottle as it was not perfectly smooth like a bottle should be therefore I created another shape with a perfected smooth curved edge like my branding is all very smooth. I have added the green based lid colour to look consistent within my logo branding as this is green also to communicate health and I have used a transparent bottle effect with the colour of the smoothies inside to visualise each flavour or vegetable, berries and orange. I am really proud of how my bottle design has developed and I have really found this a challenge to learn this software in such as short time however, I can really image this product on the shelf and the best thing is the brand and product would really stand out and spark interest with potential consumers.

I have designed a set of three different flavours and colours with my market research this lead me to find out the most popular flavours of orange, berry and vegetable. This has lead me to also decide my colour coding branding and coloured smoothies for my bottles. I really like the new developed style of bottle as the previous bottle was not very smooth and consistent with the branding of small curved visuals. I have included a transparency effect as my bottle will be transparent to see the product as consumers want within their product! I really love the way they are looking at this point and will focus on adding the label and nutrition information.

I have added a soft box lighting to create a good lighting for my product as in the supermarkets they have good bright lighting so this will help make it look realistic in the shop also I have added a greyscale background and applied shadows to make my product look more real and look pack shot ready! :-)

This is how my product looks as a solid bottle product also I converted this to an STL file as when I spoke to the Making Rooms in Blackburn which does 3D Printing they told me to convert my product to an STL file and this is what it looks like in this format. My next step will be to speak to them about my bottle and tell them what I want to do and how I want this printing and this will be a real experience for me as I have never been to a 3D printers and have no idea how they do this so I am excited to also learn new things here too.

I have added the labelling onto my bottles using a transparency background to see the design of the bottles still and make my bottle stand out as before with the coloured label on the background looked rather messy and distracted from the beauty of the bottle, therefore I have used the transparent background also I have added my bottles onto my advertising to show a pack shot of my bottles for my consumers to recognise and look our for in the supermarkets. I believe my product really stands out as a brand and is consistent as a brand with the curves and smooth edges throughout the text and bottle design shaping I love my product and really want my own Pomona smoothie to give to my grandma!

I have been making connections with the Making Rooms in Blackburn as I know they offer a 3D printing service to get my bottle 3D printed to see how this turns out would be amazing if I could create a real product to hold in my hands and show at the exhibition even take the pro-type to potential stores and buyers would be amazing. Therefore they have been very kind and supportive within my message and will be learning how 3D printing really works as I have never experienced this before so it will be an excellent exciting opportunity and experience for me and am looking forward to this challenge.

I have made the image brighter to highlight the colours of the smoothies and make them stand out more to try and see if this looks effective also I have made the yellow look more orangey yellow as this will be containing the fruit orange also this has got a green tint to it as this includes lime this will have a lime tint which is a slight green colour hence the greener tint to the colour.

This is my bottle 3D printed at Making Rooms in blackburn. Unfortunately they could not print out my bottle in actual size as this is as big as their machine would produce which is 250ml also they could not produce a transparent bottle therefore I made the colour the same as my green smoothie would be to look like the smoothie. I have put a straw inside the bottle to show how people can drink from the bottle this could work as a starting point for my smoothies if I would have had more time I would have produced all three. This could be an effective product for a promotional product for example if you buy so many smoothies this could be a free gift you could have for transport as the straw would come attracted to the bottle. I love how the bottle looks and it is nice to have it in my hands as a real product I have created and to show at my exhibition.

Advertising Initial Ideas

I have taken feedback on board from my previous comments about how my exhibition appeared visually and my poster designs and the feedback was ‘very safe looking and boring’ not very exciting visually which I did agree although I personally enjoyed the simplistic look of the posters however I did agree as there was no source of empowerment and urge to go and buy a a Pomona smoothie from my advertising. I have used an empowering happy elderly couple for all of my designs to show even the elderly can be full of life which is exactly what my Pomona smoothies will do. I have made the appearance visually black and white to create a more dynamic and powerful effect and to make the colour of my branding stand out more and buy into.

I have changed the text on the posters as I felt the previous text did no longer make sense with the new visuals on the campaign. I have used empowering quotes to empower the elderly and carers also this makes even the younger generation really think and appreciate the elderly we have as they once cared for us so now it is our turn to care for them also the happy appearances of the elderly photographed create a really vibrant and positive feeling for my brand.

This is my advertising with the packshot of my Pomona smoothie bottles I have now added on this is to show what the product looks like so the consumers know what to look out for and purchase in stores also the bottle is the brands USP and what makes Pomona different to any other smoothie brands out their as the bottle is the main function and feature within Ponomas branding identity. I really like the outcome of my advertising it looks really effective with the shot of the bottle on the advertising and really proud of my final outcomes I have achieved on this project and final module.

I have used billboard advertising to showcase my artwork I have chosen this media for advertising as I feel it gets noticed when situated in a promote area I have placed this on the tube as I imagine this target audience of carers or family members to commute a lot to certain elderly people’s homes and get out quite a bit especially carers to homes also family members to keep coming back and forth to visit their relatives and go home. I wanted a popular location also another area could be a shopping centre where the carers or family members could be buying their elders some food or fruit/veg for their own smoothies or even looking to purchase a smoothie like this which is being now advertised. I feel like my advertising definitely stands out and immediately stands out to carers or family members who have an elder person on their mind I know if I saw this I would immediately think of my grandmother too.
Advertising Ideas- (re-visited)

The rationale behind this idea was started by the fist pump symbol. This is to encourage empowerment for the elderly and make them feel positive and revitalised by having a Pomona smoothie. The design element consists of the elders hands and the Pomona smoothie bottle to show power and strength to the elderly that they may feel they lack. I would have liked a more older hand to improve this idea although I do like the added juice splashes which shows the product looking fresh and juice although looks rather too clear for a smoothie.

I personally am really impressed with these designs as I do love the visuals of these advertising campaigns and maybe I am being too personally attached to these designs as they straight away make me think of my grandma, however this is why I love them and would hope it makes other people think about their relatives or elder they care for too as they look happy and youthful as with a Pomona smoothie this is how you feel.

As I received feedback to work on the empowerment message I have used some empowering youthful quotes to make people understand that age is nothing but a number and you are as young as you feel. I have added some fun and creative flair to my designs as before they did look rather dull and boring and this brand is full of colour and positive energy.

I have created a posterised image and added colour (the colour of the smoothie advertised) on each advertising campaign to add some fun to the images, the visuals I have used are older people having fun and doing things you wouldn't normally expect to see them doing such as; taking a selfie, pulling silly faces and blowing bubbles basically doing youthful things.

I have also added a creative and consistent touch by using the Pomona leaf where the packshot of the product is also for the headings I have used a curved side of the Pomona leaf as my brandi is very smoothed edge I have shown this even through my advertising and also used a rounded edges for the typeface on the headline.

Exhibition Mock-up

This is a mock up of how I want my exhibition to look like in the Cathedral Crypt. I want to have a prominent place this is faced straight towards the entrance and I want two boards with space around as people at the exhibition will be crowding round for free samples of my smoothies which will be available. I have included on my boards the title of my exhibition project and the 3D modelling of the bottle on Cinema 4D also advertising and promotional advertising is also included on my exhibition boards. I have also set up my website onto a mock up screen of the computer, I will need tables to have my taster samples, product and promotional business cards and portfolio to stand on whilst I'm at the exhibition as I need to network myself and work too.

This is a more statistic form of advertising as I wanted my campaign to look factual as people need to know why they should buy my drink so I have taken a more factual and serious tone of voice here, aiming at the elderly audience. 
I feel like this could work as an additional form of advertising as well as another type of advertising as this looks consistent within the branding although does not have as much scope as I would potentially like.

I have targeted the carers/family members here as they are potentially more likely to notice the advertising and buy the product for the elderly person they know of or care for. I have added the illustrations of the D shaped bottle as this is also part of my USP with added vitamin D and I am questioning the consumer to attract attention and make the consumer think. I feel like these designs are really successful and make people think about help and helping someone this campaign makes people and consumers feel like they could help someone by buying my product which is a great marketing technique to have within the concept of my product as I want to help too!

This idea was using the pun of the letter D with confused the elderly not knowing how important daily vitamins really are especially vitamin D! I have emphasised the fact the man in in his 60′s to get the target audience across as this is targeted at the elderly this may not be as effective as the elderly may not get out enough to see this advertising. As most of my design work and brand is illustrated I feel like I should try just an illustrated advertising campaign to show consistency within my brand and artwork.

When I was looking at my smoothie bottle the fact the bottle shape looks like a weight really made me think about the way the consumer may hold the bottle and made me think about the fist power symbol and made me think of the message of empowerment. As my smoothies can empower the elderly and make them feel good about themselves once they've had a Pomona smoothie.I have added my smoothie bottle to this to show how visually this looks and does look really effective and empowering as getting your daily vitamins should be a thing to celebrate and feel positive about.

This is the development of my smoothie bottle so far I have managed to make the bottle transparent as my consumers want to see the product they are going to purchase and this is the colour of one of my smoothies. I have added a base and grip grooves for my bottle to be ergonomically functional to the consumer to grip onto and for the bottle to stand up effectively. The lid is wide and curve for the consumer to open with ease. Overall, I feel like the shape of the bottle needs more work as I can see the top is not as smooth and rounded as I would like as I need my product to look consistent within my branding. I feel the label looks good here with the transparent background as when I created visuals with the bottle and a coloured labeled background I received feedback that it looked like the label was just there and not within the bottle as the whole product and branding is a creative beauty not just the design of the bottle.

Label Sticker Designs

After receiving feedback of my label design and positioning on the bottle I only need one label with the brand name and flavour on as before I had two which was too repetitive and looked ugly repeating twice as consumers aren't stupid. I have received feedback on the positioning of my label as I was placing it over the grip grooves of the bottle which is the main practical function of the bottle and by placing a label over this would obstruct the bottles practicality. Therefore, I have now designed stickers for my bottle which will be stuck on separately as the branding would be at the front and nutritional information at the back of the bottle.

This is the label sticker at the front view with the branding as this is the most important sticker and the nutritional information on the back as they are on the back of most products. The positioning is on the bottom of the bottle but is centred to look effective and stand out. I have also positioned the label on the curve of the bottle as a wrap around label (below).

This is the label design as a wrap which is around the curve of the bottle, I feel this stands out more on the bottle however does have less room for information and could make the bottle appear as a “G” maybe from a distance unless a clear plastic background was used therefore the smoothie could still be shown. 
I have used easy peel-able labels then the consumer has a choice to re-use the bottles as customers like to get use for their money and I feel as the bottle is such a unique and effective, ergonomically functioning bottle consumers will want to recycle and re-use the bottle again for other use to get the most out of this bottle and the design.

This is my in season calendar once I added more colours to the segments to make them stand out more and also make the overall visual more appealing to look at. I feel like this looks more effective and attractive as I have kept to the Pomona colour scheme I feel this really works! I did not want to colour each section with the colour of the vegetables as this would look mostly green and the fruits would be all different colours, this may not appear to be consistent and I feel this looks really effective and creates a more unique pattern.

Eat Seasonably Calendar

I have responded to the feedback I have been given about my ‘in season’ fruit and vegetable calendars. This looks a lot more effective as the other was very simple with a table visual and this is rounded like a piece of fruit also like the Pomona letter “O”. I have kept the colour scheme consistent with orange to symbolise the fruits calendar also added the signature lead on top of the rounded table to communicate the brand further. 
In conclusion, this looks a lot more effective visually, I did not choose this design initially as I was concerned about my target audience being able to understand and follow it as easily as a table, however as I have included less fruit than I previously had, this is simplistic enough to follow and understand. 
Vegetables ‘in season’ Calendar

I have also designed one for vegetables choosing the most common vegetables and fruits for my calendars. I have rotated the months so that December until February is showing at the top as this is the most common time for more veg to be in season and August until October is more common for fruits this is how we always mange to supplement our bodies with either fruit or vegetables. 
As for the design I have kept to the Pomona colour scheme and not being too adventurous with colours, however I will try this to see how effective this looks as for my inspiration I have collected some very effective coloured calendars. Overall, I feel this design is a lot more visually appealing and would definitely be more exciting to have up on the kitchen wall to look at.

Advertising- Initial Ideas

Elderly person with family member in own home. (The scaling is not accurate and this shows how important scaling in product design or design in general is very important this is showing how not to show your product!)
I have received feedback for my previous ideas for my advertising campaign, it was pointed out that I have no evidence of carers or the elderly in my previous campaigns, therefore I have now used the elderly with a carer and a family member with an elderly person within an old fashioned designed home and a care home as pointed out above. This message is a lot more clearer as this drink is for the elderly and carers are also involved within the visual too to also include them within the campaign so the message can be to both. 
The actual body copy and language needs to be worked on as this is very very important for my campaign to get the message across clearly and effectively. As this is mainly advertised to the carers and family members this needs to clearly communicate to them within the tone of voice and my USP of vitamin D also needs to be clearly stated. 
The elderly people in the visuals above are healthy and bright looking as I wanted to show the positive effective of having this drink and having Pomona branded smoothies with added vitamin D will do to the elderly person by supplying them with the vitamins they needs as I do not want to show a sick looking person as this would not be as effective and would have a very negative advertising effect.

In conclusion, through this research I have found all these advertising pieces have a healthy looking and happy older person and not a wrinkly sad older person which is how you would associate old people, I need to perceive a happy and healthy sanitised older person for my target audience as they will see a happy healthy looking person and feel like my Pomona smoothies can make you feel like the person in the advertising. I need a monkey see monkey kind of reaction when people are looking at my advertising, from a carers point of view I need the carers to see the advertising and make them think about some elderly person they know and want to help them with Pomona smoothies.

Guest Lecturers- Notes
The Uncanny- William Card
During this lecture we learned about the uncanny, which means strange or mysterious; difficult or impossible to explain: an uncanny resemblance. The lecture was really interesting and really makes you thing and be more aware of your own surroundings. 
During this lecture I was thinking about how this topic can relate to my own project and in reflection to this lecture, I was thinking about the uncanny perception of care homes as I always think about care homes as this mysterious and quiet place where people who are in care homes especially dementia care homes we have no idea what happens in these places and the elder people themselves even have no idea what is happening in their mind. 
The Uncanny Photography of Jeremy O’Sullivan
There are so many unexpected images in the photostream of Beijing-based photographer Jeremy O’Sullivan I find his photography really inspiring and a fine example of ‘uncanny’. I find it inspiring to just have the unexpected as below you would expect the hair to be in place with the face but instead it is cut off and aligned more to the right, because why not! Expect the unexpected!

As I was there the other day, there was this woman who was talking to me telling me about her life as she ‘used to be a top barrister’ she says then one minute later she ‘used to be an athlete’ it was crazy how she could be her own fantasy in her head and she could be anything she wanted. Just like in a children’s mind too they fantasise about various things and become a part of their own imagination, which was really interesting to reflect on and will now think about how my personal experiences can come into my project. 
Stereotype- Jenna Gardner
This lecture was really eye-opening in regards again to our surroundings but also the symbols that surround us and how un-important gender actually is. We all took part in a class activity, gender steroeo-typing in a visual culture. It was really fascinating to see all the three years of work she put in her MA and such a big project to take on, really interesting how everything had a rational and the people within the research basically created her project and really interesting how shapes even have a gender, which isn’t something I would have even considered, it is powerful even how we are surrounded by signage and symbols which could tell us to do something and subconsciously we obey these signs.
As a class we listed items that we would associate with male gender and then with women and we all made common connections such as; males, cars, gaming and technology and women, flowers, make-up and hair. In conclusion to this I found male stereotyping was more competitive with gaming and technology based and women stereotyping was more about vanity and self care. As males are more involved in achievements and woman are more involved in how they look. My own personal views were I saw males more about physical job roles such as using tools and using bricks to create buildings and women with more maternal instincts associated with babies and family and cooking to provide for the family. 
We listed five attributes which we could associate with males, which concluded the majority to choose strength and power as a dominant lion would also be associated with and for women a more caring and loving, nurturing type which was really interesting to find. Also the colours associated with males are; blue, black and red and females are pink, purple and yellow. This to me shows again males to be more bold and contrasting colours and females to choose more softer colours. 
We also thought about what signage situations would it be important to discriminate gender, as a class we all concluded toilets and in a pharmacy and medication as the sex of us is what is the crucial difference rather than our actual gender. After a class discussion we even concluded that even in toilets there does not need to be a gender divide as if everyone has a cubicle no one can see each other anyway so does it really matter if there is a male or female next to us as we don’t really know either way, this was a really interesting fact.
The final part of our tasks was to draw a symbol for people which we had to draw ourself, I drew a series of simple shapes as my visual reference this does not refer to gender in a stereotypical way but it does in some way as some shapes can refer to male and some more female, for example, a circle can be more feminine and square would be a masculine shape. Therefore, we can not really escape gender but we can always give it a try!

In conclusion, this has been interesting for my final project as I am currently designing the label for my project too how important symbols is for my projects, as people have allergies and this is a case where signage and symbols can be a danger and potentially kill! Which is really important especially on my packaging to label everything clearly using symbols such as allergies and recycling symbol is also a sign which is important for the consumer.
