Media Research: Along with the Gods: The Two Worlds

In this movie we follow our main character going through limbo being escorted by 3 grim reapers who are deciding his fate on what happened while he was on earth.

The idea of this is really interesting ad the reapers are shown as normal people and are also helping the person to his afterlife. I also like the bitter sweetness of these characters as they are helping him to the afterlife but if he was a bad person there they would be his worst enemy. I feel its a really good concept that could have some really intense story ideas and character development throughout the series.

Media Research: After Life

In After Life you follow a group who have recently died and have found themselves in limbo here they are told to pick up 1 memory to take them to the after life with them and they are only allowed 1 choice.

I think this is a very sad representation of the afterlife as you only are able to remember a single memory this puts alot more emotion and thought into the final decision of the memory as you will only have that for eternity and if it were real the choice would be heartbreaking for some people from choices like marriage to your first child, second child the decisions are too real for a normal person.

Media Research: Dead Like Me

After Life has a interesting version where some people have the choice to have the job of the grim reaper and can stay on earth under a new body until they collect the required number of souls this job is then passed on to the last persons soul the previous person had collected.

I really like this idea as it means that humans are the real grim reaper which is a very interesting concept to me something like there being multiple reapers is an interesting idea. On top of that the system they have is also very cool as there is always someone else to do the grim reaper job as they are bound to collect the souls from the other.

Media Research: Christmas Carol

I have chosen to look into a Christmas carol as it is a movie that shows the grim reaper or as in the show ‘the ghost of Christmas yet to come’ I have decided to use this as research for the main character in my game that will be the grim reaper.

in the Christmas carol the grim reaper is portrayed as a very fearful skeleton ghost wearing the classic black cloak although we never see his face we still know he is a skeleton as we see his hand as he points to scrooges grave. also the reaper is very tall and does not say a word and he is ominously watching everything scrooge does. from this I really want to take the design of the reaper in his classic black robe i also want to make my character silent as he is a silent killer with no words spoken.

Media Research: The Good Place

The good place is yet another really good take on the afterlife with this one being after death our main character is sent to a place called ‘the good place’ this is supposed to be a interpretation of heaven as this place was made by a man to reward the people who have lived a good life. this twist for this film is that there was sa mix up and our character who is there was not living an overly good life so she is now trying to not get caught while trying to become a better person.

this is a really cool idea for the afterlife as it suggests rewards for being a good person but we sadly don't get to know what happens to everyone else is there a hell do all people that have been even a bit bad still go to hell i would like to understand more about how this world works and its rules but still a very cool theme of the afterlife.

Media Research: The Discovery

The Discovery is a really interesting movie where it is a thought of what would happen if human found out the afterlife exists. The discovery takes this concept and uses it where a scientist has been able to actually prove the existence of an afterlife but sadly this leads to a outrageous increase of suicides of people to escape from there normal lives. 

This idea is a really interesting one as I do think about what would happen if an afterlife was proven. I do wanna agree with the fact that many people would end up committing suicide as it would be a better option for alot of people with nothing left. maybe they had lost loved ones and thought they could find them. However I don't think as many people would commit suicide as the movie makes out my reasoning for this is that I don't think in the real world many people would trust this device many would call it fake as the idea of an afterlife is so unbelievable to us but it is still a very interesting idea worth others going deeper into.

Media Research: Beetlejuice

Beetlejuice is a comedy movie but its ways of interpreting the afterlife is also unique and fun to look into as it is very interesting as the afterlife for this movie is that if you die you will simple be a ghost and watch over your own house of where you died you may not go anywhere else but that's where it gets interesting.

on death they receive a deaths handbook where there are many many rules of the dead and they can transport from there house to a dead call centre where they can learn everything they also do make out that you can die in the afterlife but they do not insinuate what happens if you go there. I think that this is a great idea for the afterlife as its fun and you could go to many different ideas based off of this one. My only disappointment is that they didn't go further into any of these ideas i really think they could of had some very unique concepts that would of been interesting to use.

Media Research: Russian Doll

Looking at the Russian doll it seems like a odd kind of afterlife think that is a odd concept that can be taken and used in many different ways. The concept of the film is that the girl is at a party where she dies but instead of dying she wakes up and has to do the night again and again.

To me this could be alot of different things but the biggest one and most believable in my opinion is that she could be in hell in the afterlife and this could be her punishment for her wrong doings maybe she robbed people at party in real life and this is a way in hell for her to be punished this is a pretty cool idea for a movie as i feel you could go in many different ways from this and make a unique story.

Company or Creator Research: Dodge Roll

Dodge Roll Is the creator of the game Enter to the gungeon and its sequel exit the gungeon. To me these games are a really creative take on the dungeon run game genre and a really well made and fun experience for players.

The main rason for this would be for the graphics in my opinions as I think the flashy and over the top nature of it works really well and it always keeps the player gripped to the screen and playing the game. I also think that the graphics are just well done in general looking clean are rally detailed making the player gaze at most of the environments as they are just so nice to look at.

Company or Creator Research: Eric Barone

Eric Barone is the man behind the making of stardew valley but what really makes me interested in him is the fact that he made the whole game of stardew valley on his own. From all the code to every piece of at it is all done by him and that simple amazed me to look into him further. 

For his game I think that it is an amazing piece of work as it is visually stunning to look at as all the textures and environments to me are really well made and perfected. I can also say that the mechanics of his game are very well fleshed out as well with all the interactions with the various npcs of the game and all the planting and creation of many different crops for your overall farm was a massive feat for 1 man to do and its inspiring.

Forager

Forager is a very interesting top down adventure game. It stood out to me in particular as I saw how much you can do in the game it gives me a top down terraria type of feel as i can see that you can make loads of different building farm materials and fight bosses for certain rules. I was also very intrigued by the parts of the game where you can buy land and then place factory's that auto make materials for you. This is very intriguing to me as it really in something I've never seen before in a game like this.

I will say I really like the kind of color scheme and art style they have went for as i find myself a big fan of the simplistic style of all the art mixed with a very simple and bright colour scheme with minimal shading. the game is a very good example of less is more as I really like and appreciate this kind of style to the art.

For a game like this where you can do so much farming and building that the combat system would be an after though with simple enemy's and combat systems but i was very pleasantly surprised. the combat and enemy's seem surprisingly well fleshed out with many weapons to choose from in the game for variety and a dodge technique in battle on top of that I really like the enemys designs and attacks s thy also feel really nice and well fleshed out.

Game Research: Hotline Miami

Hotline Miami is a very fun fast passed action packed game in my option and I really like the mood it has when you are playing it. While you run though the houses you feel like a unstoppable crazed maniac killing everything in sight with no mercy. While playing this game its mood is a great factor to it just filling the player with adrenalin and a urge to to just run and gun everything.

For the action in this game i can say it is very over the top and dramatic but that is what makes the game so good i can say the guns and animations to go with the guns and people dying both go perfectly together making perfect over the top screen shake and noise to really immerse the player as if he was really shooting a gun. 

Finally I would say that my only complaint is about the character design as I personally am not a fan of the style they just feel to simplistic to me on the other hand I think the work well with the background design as complete opposites in the color scheme so that they are easily visible to the player and can be seen very well as they are dead on the ground for the realistic part of the game.

Game Research: Hyper Light Drifter

With hyper light drifter i would first like to talk about the character design and although I am not rally the biggest fan of this style of character design I do think that this one is a hidden gem as i am really a big fan of the character.

First I really like the colour scheme and clothing they decided to go with as I think the pink and purple give off a really magical and mystic feel his choice of clothing also shows this but also adds a layer of secrecy and mystery with his cloak and it also shows he is a solider with his helmet and the weapon he wields. 

I would also like to appreciate the background design of the game as i think it really reinforces the theme of mystery and magical with how everything is is coloured. Also the design in general is actually really well made and very unique in its design and shape compared to many other games.

Game Research:  Moonlighter

From looking at moonlighter I can say I first off am a fan of the background design. as I think it has a nice simplistic look but still with complex shapes and designs I like the feel that come with this certain design choice. I would also say on the level design itself the outside village is designed really nice mapped well I can also say the same for the dungeon areas I get a binding of Isaac type of feel with the doored off rooms as this was also what inspired my game.

Next thing I would like to admire is the combat of the game. First off I really like the many different attacking and movement option as you can have a sword attack for close melee attacks or use a bow and arrow for ranged situations I feel that this works very well as you are not only giving the player multiple options but also making the game more enjoyable for the player as they dont feel so limited to a certain attack and get bored. This also keep the player intrigued as they never have a time where the cant do anything to a enemy as they have both range and close quarter. Finally i would also like to mention the roll technique in the game as i feel it just adds another layer of depth to the combat system as a quick getaway move that will either save you or leave you vunrable to the other enemy's. For these reasons i really like this gams combat system and i think that its really well fleshed out.

Game Research: Stardew Valley

Stardew Valley is a game not really based around combat and attacking enemies like in my game but what it does have in similar is the pixel art and top down kind of playstyle so it is something I can still take and learn from.

To start off I really like the art style in the game as everything has a very real look and feel to it. I think the thing that strengthens this most is the shading done on most of the big objects to make seem 3d I also think that the art style is just really nice to look at like a real life environment just made up of pixels. I would like to have some form of realistic pixel art to my game so that it can have the same kind of feel to it.

I would also like to give credit to all the npcs and characters that were made all of them seem very well fleshed out with all different personality's. To add to this they also work within the game creating custom events and living life on there own without you. This is something i can really appreciate as it is alot of effort put into something that is not even necessarily needed in the game to me it shows that the developer does care about every little thing in there game such as every individual character.

Company or Creator Research: Edmund McMillen

I would say i am personally a fan of Edmund McMillen based off of his art style in most of his games. It is just a really unique kind of style that i dont see in many other games that aren't made by him. The first game I heard of him from would be the binding of Isaac which is a really good game and was the main inspiration for my project.

Another game I would really like of his would have to be super meat boy as it was just a really good bit of fun to play. The art style with the game as well is something really well done and its just nice to look at as its smooth and satisfying.

Media Research: Upload

upload is a very weird concept of the afterlife and that is the reason I chose it. its set in a time where you have the choice to die or upload your mind to this afterlife where it is essentially heaven ad you can have almost anything you want in it. 

This is very interesting as there are many things to think about with this film as in what happens if the servers every die or accidently cut out do you die instantly with nothing? if you die in there do you still go to what every the afterlife out there is or are you simply trapped? personally i am a fan of this concept of the afterlife as its a very unique idea that i have not seen before.
