The Best Digital Cameras to Buy
Tumblr media
Every photographer needs a reliable camera, whether they’re an amateur or a professional. It goes without saying that the camera they use is the most important aspect of what they do. If you have a camera that doesn’t meet all your requirements, you’re not going to get the pictures you need and what’s the use in that for a photographer? It’s like Lewis Hamilton entering a race with a Fiat 500 instead of his Mercedes-AMG One.
So, if you want to be a champion of photography, it’s time you invest in a top-quality digital camera. One of the best online camera shops is Wilkinson Cameras – they stock all the top brands, offer part exchanges and their experts are always on-hand to help.
I’m going to run through some of the digital cameras on their website that could suit your requirements and be ideal for you. Remember though; they’re constantly updating their stock and might have something even better, so be sure to visit their site and see for yourself. Here we go:
1.       Sony Cybershot RX1R Mark II Compact Digital Camera
Tumblr media
Sony is one of the big players in the photography game, and for good reason too. Their digital cameras are of excellent quality, and this one we’ve picked out is no different. The Sony Cybershot RX1R Mark II is compact but capable with full-frame format compatibility, a large-aperture ZEISS® Sonnar T* 35mm F2 lens, a tiltable LCD screen, and many more features. You’re able to take truly breath-taking pictures. This digital camera is certainly a great piece of equipment to invest in.
 2.       Nikon D500 Body
Tumblr media
Powerful, portable and agile - the Nikon D500 combines the high quality of the Nikon D5 with the flexibility of the DX system. Whatever you’re shooting, whether it’s wildlife or sports, the Nikon D500 will capture the perfect shot. Featuring a 153-point AF system, 10 fps continuous shooting, lightweight DX system, 4K UHD video, SnapBridge support, and much more. Could the D500 be your ideal photography partner?
 3.       Canon EOS 1D X Mark III Body
Tumblr media
This camera is a little on the pricey side, which is why it was designed for professionals. The Canon EOS 1D X Mark III helps you capture split second moments in time and make them last forever. This digital camera ensures lightning speed when shooting stills and sleek smoothness when capturing video. Designed to be tough, reliable and intuitive, this camera is one of the best out there.
 4.       Nikon D6 DSLR Camera Body
Tumblr media
Back to Nikon – this digital camera looks as good as it shoots. Another camera built for professionals, featuring Nikon’s most powerful AF system yet and fast in-camera connections for real-time image transfer, the D6 lets you create and deliver without limitation. Extreme speed, precision and high quality are what comes to mind when you think of the Nikon D6.
 5.       Fujifilm GFX 100S Body
Tumblr media
Last, but certainly not least, the Fujifilm GFX 100S was designed for perfection in image quality, which is exactly what photographers seek. The Fujifilm GFX 100S creates remarkably detailed images that reach further and deeper into scenes to reveal amazing colour fidelity and rich shadow detail. Experience unparalleled colour accuracy and flexibility with this digital camera.
And that was the list of my personal favourite digital cameras to purchase in 2022. You can purchase all of these on the Wilkinson Cameras’ camera shop, along with many other cameras, lenses and accessories.

Cameras & Photography; An Art Form
Tumblr media
Photographers are very well-thought of today, they take their cameras and set out into the world capturing photos that will last a lifetime, and sometimes even outlast them. Photos create memories that we can always look back on. Photography needs to be recognised a lot more, in this blog post, here’s a bit more about it:
The Types of Photography
Photography is not just about taking pictures; photographers specialise in different areas of photography; these are just some of them:
Portrait – also known as candid photography, this includes the photographing of supermodels, celebrities, red carpets, magazine photoshoots, graduation pictures, family portraits and headshots
Still life – taking photos of inanimate objects, also known as product photography
Landscape – shooting the outdoors; sunrises, sunsets, mountains, trees, night sky and more
Travel – the clues in the name, shooting whilst travelling; this type of photography can include portraits, landscape photos, food, nature, cities & wildlife oozing the vibe of new places and experiences
Food – photos of food for fun or business purposes
Pet – same techniques as portrait photography except on animals
Sports – photos football matches, cricket, golf, the Olympics and more
Wildlife – photos of wild animals within their natural habitats, this type of photography can prove to be extremely difficult due to the long stakeouts for the perfect picture and dangerous environments these photographers put themselves in
Macro – artistic photos, make objects look bigger than they are
Event – weddings, graduations, birthdays, concerts, meetings and more
Commercial – businesses hire photographers for their brand, this type of photographer is usually skilled in Photoshop to make their client’s product look as attractive as possible
Fashion – models in high-end clothes
Fine art – requires a personal style, usually sold as prints
Photojournalism – for use in news stories, taking pictures of the latest developments whether that’s a protest or crime
Documentary – taking photos of historical events
Stock – taking photos available to be licensed, usually general photos that businesses can buy and use for their website and blog
Architectural – photographing buildings for architects, designers and investors
Where Photography Started
It all started with the camera obscura, invented by an Iraqi scientist in the 11th century. The obscura did not record images, but projected the onto other surfaces, these images were upside down but could be traced. The obscura not being able to preserve the image was posing a problem so around 1826, a man named Joseph Nicéphore Niépce modified it so it would be able to produce a photographic plate. Niépce became the inventor of the first camera to produce a permanent photo! However, the image wasn’t great quality and viewers would have trouble making out the scene captured.
A man named Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre modified Niépce’s original design so that the image it produced was a lot clearer and this design became a commercial success.
The first consumer camera came from George Eastman, he invented the Kodak No.1 camera which was easy to use for the average person, whereas previous camera designs were solely for professionals. This camera captured real life; old family photos in museums captured people’s home lives.
The first digital camera was invented by Steve Sasson, including point & shoot cameras as well as DSLRs, the camera was the size of the toaster and over 24,000 were shipped out.
All of these designs paved the way for the high-tech cameras that are on offer today, allowing us to capture the best quality images ever.
How Photography Became an Art
The world didn’t look at photographers as artists, instead, they looked at them as technicians. Photography was not considered an art until Alfred Stieglitz showed off his work – he founded his own art gallery featuring his photos named ‘The Little Galleries of the Photo-Secession’ in 1905. Photos were exhibited along with paintings and sculptures, therefore giving them the same treatment as works of art. The world was now starting to see photography as more of an art than just a job.
Ansel Adams also contributed to the world seeing photography as an art – he highlighted his extreme talent with the work he produced. The exposure, crispness, depth and contrast that were present in his photos set a new standard for landscape photography.
The contributions that these two men and their collaborators made were significant in photography finally being recognised as an art form in the early 1940s.
Photography makes our life a lot easier and brighter, it deserves a lot more recognition than it is sometimes given.
If you’re looking to get into photography, or you’re already a pro and you need to upgrade your kit, Wilkinson Cameras’ online camera shop is the best place to do so.
