Daredevil vol. 1 issue #302 (D.G. Chichester)
Matt rubs his new curtains against his cheek. He and Foggy have just moved to a new office, and he got the blinds switched to soft curtains.

Daredevil vol. 1 issue #303 (D.G. Chichester)
Matt stays up late, working while he listens to Foggy's snores.
These small moments of Matt self-soothing are a rare sight, and something I appreciate. Whenever something references the fact that Matt's hyper-senses have got to be near torture to live with, I'm reminded of my own experience being autistic. In some ways, Matt's senses must be additionally disabling, even if they do allow him to be a superhero, and I think it would be nice to see more of the other side of that shown: not just Matt getting thrown off by something overwhelming his senses, but maybe Matt stimming (like he is with the curtain in the first panel here) to help regulate his senses. Although, with the repressed emotional mess that Matt tends to be, it probably makes sense for him not to do this - even if it would help him.
As a side note, I also love the way - in terms of canon timeline, even if not publishing timeline - Matt has gone from suffering through Foggy's snoring in college to being soothed by it when his partner falls asleep in their office.

Alright....
Introducing: Foggy Nelson

One of my favorite parts of Season 3 are the glimpses of Foggy's family. Much of Foggy's history in the show revolves around his relationship with Matt, but here, we get to see the people who have raised and loved Foggy his whole life. We get to see how this has impacted the kind of person and friend he is.

Foggy's family is loud.
They are welcoming. They are tight-knit. They are kind. They are normal.
They are the type of people that welcomes anyone with open arms. Matt included.

Christmases. Thanksgivings. Easters. 4th of July parties.
Matt knows them. He calls him Uncle Timmy, as opposed to just Timmy. He has inside jokes with them. He knows them, is close to them, has a history with him, has a relationship with them.
Foggy's family mourned him when he was gone.

There is absolutely no way in hell that Foggy saw a man, his best friend, with no family of his own, and didn't invite him to family functions.

That means that for the first time in years, Matt had a place to go for holidays. For the first time since his father died, he had a home, had a family, to go to that would welcome him in with genuine affection and love.
He didn't spend them alone.
And since that's true for Matt, I believe that it would be the same for Karen. She walks into Nelson's Meats like she's been there several times, because she probably has. Waves at Foggy's brother. Has no qualms about interrupting their conversation. When she falls apart and tells Foggy about Wesley, it's at his family's business, in a place they use for large family gatherings.

I'm convinced that when Matt panics over Foggy leaving him in Season 2, he's not just thinking about his friendship with him, but also about potentially losing one of the most normal things he has: a group of people he might call family, too. It doesn't matter that it's Foggy's family: they've been the closest thing Matt's had to one since his dad died.
Matt's circle grew, the number of people in his corner grew, the number of people who wanted to see him succeed and be happy grew, the second he met Foggy in undergrad.
Matt knows this, and was probably equally terrified of losing that when Foggy walked out that door.

Foggy, at his core, is a family man, and to him, it means more than just DNA. Matt and Karen are still his.
Foggy sees these two beautifully broken people, and thinks to himself, maybe I don't have much to offer, but I can offer friendship and a place to come home to. He shares his kindness, his love, and his family.
He shares these even Matt has his head up his ass, and even when Karen is causing him heart failure by chasing down leads that could get her killed.
And really, that's all he needs to offer. Foggy is the absolute glue that holds them all together, and both Karen and Matt know it. And I don't just mean the glue that holds them together as a group of friends; he is the glue that holds Matt together when he feels like he's going to break, no matter how much Matt pushes him away. He is the glue that keeps Karen from shattering when she's missing a home she can't go back to.
Foggy may not be the title character, but he's sure as shit the one who helps carry things from start to finish. He is the one who calls them on their shit, the one who demands they do and be better, and is the first one to congratulate or console.
Where the hell would Matt and Karen be without Foggy Nelson?
Now that I've written this, Imma go sob in the corner.
Thank you for coming to my second Ted Talk.

Remember, Foggy is and will always be considered Matt's family, after his father. Not Karen, not Stick, not Elektra. It's always Foggy. People need other people who make them happy without romance, who sow warmth and care in them. Someone who keeps them grounded, who will scold them for their own good. People need best friends who are considered their family. Why did the Disney showrunners forget this? Um...because Disney is allergic to "best friends." It happened with Steve and Bucky. It happened with Clint and Natasha. It happened with Tony and Rhodey. It happened with Peter and Ned. They were each other's only ones from the start. I predict: Sam and Bucky will be separated in future movies. They will get everyone best friends.

It didn't have to be like this. Foggy didn't need to be a victim of shock value just for Karen to get a big role in season two.
Woll has already confirmed that she will be in the second season and, if we look back, these rumors have been circulating for a long time.
It's likely that she's in the Punisher project too, given her closeness to Bernthal.
Logically, all this crap could be nothing more than Marvel messing with its audience.
In the comics, Foggy spent a week under sedatives and months in captivity recovering.
Still, I can't help but note with some distaste Marvel's decision to give more prominence to Karen instead of Foggy. Both could have their own arcs in the show.
There are rumors (speculations) that the actress pulled some strings to achieve this. There is (speculation) that the showrunner doesn't like Elden Henson. There are rumors and rumors and speculation everywhere.
The only thing I know is that with so many rumors and disrespect for Elden's career and Foggy's trajectory, this series is no longer eagerly awaited by the hero's true fans.
Those who know that Foggy has always been as important in Matt Murdock's life as Daredevil himself.
The one person Matt always came back to. The only person Matt went to hell for.
Who hasn't read Foggy's cancer arc and been moved by Matt in the hospital holding Foggy's hand?
I fear that fans of the show have never read this. I believe that not even the creators read it. If they read the comics, they would care more about Foggy.
Marvel's decision to give Karen Page the place of heart and soul of the mythology and again make another character have a destiny that should be hers, is ridiculous to say the least.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Karen. She has her role in the show. She was crucial. However, in the legal world, her name would not be so easily added to Nelson and Murdock's partnership.
And in the Daredevil mythology, she's been dead for years.
But these aren't the comics! I know.
I know, and I agree. It doesn't make sense for this Karen to be like Karen from the comics. And again, Karen from the series is incredible just the way she is.
But simply giving Foggy this fate is cruel, petty, and mean-spirited. It's callous!
Foggy deserved to be on the show just as much as Karen did.
Foggy should have an episode all to himself.
We will never know why Foggy, despite being surrounded by a beautiful family, has such low self-esteem.
We'll never know if he's adopted and if Anna wanted him to be a butcher so he wouldn't turn into someone like his biological mother.
We'll never see Matt and Foggy discussing Matt's senses. There are so many beautiful things that it would be impossible to mention here.
And all of this because Marvel doesn't know how to deal with characters like Foggy. A sensitive man, not a "badass".
Foggy deserves so much more.
And as my friend would add, so does Elden.
