I went out for a cigarette and the heavens blessed me with another cigarette on the ground upon my completion of first said cigarette.

Foolish Philosopher King
A Philosopher King was an idea proposed by Plato around 375 BC "Plato argued that the ideal state – one which ensured the maximum possible happiness for all its citizens – could only be brought into being by a ruler possessed of absolute knowledge, obtained through philosophical study." - Wikipedia
I initially chose this name because I thought it was funny but I have realized any Philosopher King is a foolish Philosopher King. Any ruler is a foolish ruler. Foolishness is trait shared by all of us. Some of the greatest military minds couldn't comprehend that winter in Russia would be cold.
The idea sounds great initially but a ruler who has the knowledge to run a country effectively is still not likely to bring us the things we need. Rulers, rule smart people can be hired, any expertise needed can be paid for, any knowledge needed can be obtained. A ruler's character weighs a hundredfold over there competency.
All these politicians we have in the US may have gone to college and got degrees but they are still throwing snowballs in the Senate. The problem isn't their competency it's that they are people who are acting in their own and the government's self interest, because of course they will. Being a politician is their job, their source of income, how they're currently surviving, people with poor character are absolutely going to prioritize their job security over the middle and lower class. They won't support worker's right because the need the company's money to run their campaign so they can keep their job longer.
And our belief that we should have a smart and perfect ruler makes us manipulatable. "I have experience so of course I'll handle things better." "Look at the other side things went wrong of course their less competent." Slimy people with good charisma can make up stories about how their amazing, smart and competent and it works because we think those things will make them a better ruler. If a ruler is good he doesn't need to be charismatic or smart he could just give a speech saying "I just signed the bill to legalize abortion" and we would still fucking cheer, why? because he just fucking legalized abortion. How he presented it or whether he wrote the details himself doesn't fucking matter he made a decision to do that based on his character that's what we should care about.
Government is messy all legislation is going to have loopholes, a good ruler isn't going to have legislation without loopholes but a good leader would the kind of person who will try and fix them. I'd elect an actual fucking toddler if they actually fought worker's rights. I don't care how smart, experienced, or charismatic is a person is I care whether they actually believe that a person shouldn't be charged $400 for insulin.
what's the point of all of this? I don't fuckin know
