Petals
Petal by petal,
The flowers in your garden
Open themselves up to the sun
In a way I never could to you

Stories
I sit down on fake grass,
Someone lays their head on my lap
And I tell stories
Of old gods and monsters,
Of Zeus, and his many children,
Of the many women he has wronged.
I tell stories
Of Orion,
Of Artemis,
Of a love, immortalised
In the form of stars.
I tell stories
Of Orpheus and his voice,
Of the fear that destined Eurydice to fall
Lost to her love, forever.
I tell stories
Of Achilles
Of his greatest weakness
Not his heel, I say,
It was his heart, his Patroclus.
I tell stories
Of Psyche and Eros,
Of Hades and Persephone,
Of Apollo and Hyacinthus,
I tell stories
Of love and death and tragedy.
I tell stories
That taught me
Grief only exists where love does.
