I think that Miss Parker from The Pretender would be so popular on here. She's mean. She's iconic. She's evil. She wants love and happiness. She hunts people for sport (or for her dad technically). She has a pet bunny. She's beautiful. She's tired of being a pawn in a game. She's a villain. She grew up with the person she's hunting. She has an ulcer. She deserves love and happiness. She wears silk shirts.

I finished season 3 of The Pretender and I don’t get why Miss Parker still feels loyalty towards The Centre? Like, all the suspicions started in season 2 about the ethics of this place and more clues to the mystery of her mother’s death. And then in season 3 it was clearly someone from The Centre who killed her boyfriend, framed and killed a random junkie and then killed anyone else who could possibly give her any more clues about who killed him.
I know she has daddy issues and a weird sense of loyalty to her father, but he’s proven time and time again that he can’t be trusted.
I also think it’s odd that she even refers to Lyle as her brother bc like… he can’t be trusted and she knows how much of a trash human he is. But when she found out he’s her twin brother it didn’t take her long to accept it, even though she still doesn’t like or trust him.
Through all of this she still works there on this mission to catch Jarod. Her, Sydney, and Broots are always digging and uncovering conspiracies. And Jarod has helped her out from a distance a ton of times. He has even come to her in person to help her out and she didn’t try to bring him in. But ultimately she still remains loyal to the Center.
It was really weird how much compassion she showed for Jarod’s clone who they found that was like 13 years old. I know part of it was because she knew that her mother had been against that project. But even though she shows compassion for this clone of Jarod who was at the same age as when we saw flashbacks of the two of them being friends, she still sticks to her mission of bringing the original Jarod back to the Centre.
I feel like she needs to wake up and join Jarod’s side taking Sydney and Broots with her to bring The Centre down.
I haven’t watched this since like 1999 or whenever it ended, so I still feel like I’m mostly watching it for the first time. So i just started season 4 and I have no ide what happens next. Maybe that is what happens. I’ll find out

I fell upon an interview of Andrea when she did Roster Con in 2018 and MY GOSH THE FEELS 🥺
Translating from French if anyone else wants to know.
“Jarod & Miss Parker, friendship or love?”
“I hope there will be a final movie and I hope we’ll see that Jarod and Parker got together. Thomas was right for her and when he died, I was devastated. But I think, inevitably, Jarod and Miss Parker belong together. It’s my wish.”
I CANNOT HANDLE THE FACT THAT SHE’S A MPJ SHIPPER 😍
Also, they asked her about the show coming to an end. She said she was disappointed, they all were. They had no idea it was coming. The screenwriters and the actors expected two more movies to end the show. But they didn’t get that, she’s sorry there’s no true ending.
Fuck you NBC 😩 I would have settled for one but two would have been the perfect gift. Now just getting closure would be a goddamn miracle since it’s been over 20 years since IOTH 😭

I’m just over halfway through this rewatch of The Pretender, but I’m already struck with a sense of queerness that never occurred to me when it was first broadcast.
Yes, we know that Jarod is attracted to women. Hell, the psychologists brought Miss Parker in to visit him when they were both tweens to make sure he was attracted to the opposite sex (nothing creepy about THAT, amirite).
But there’s something in how he’s almost constantly performing when out in society. And whenever we see him engage in “macho” twentieth-century ideals of masculinity, it’s almost always a part of one of those performances. In those rare instances when he’s able to be himself or be around people he trusts, he’s comfortable being sensitive, silly, or soft. On occasion he even has trouble hiding these qualities while “pretending.” There is a constant thread of searching for identity while not being completely certain of what makes up identity in the first place.
And although Miss Parker is attracted to men, and her wardrobe is not chosen to be unappealing to the male gaze, she’s not afraid to show personality traits traditionally labeled as masculine. And hoo, boy, do I indenify with her initial desire to be the son her father never made a secret of wanting.
The female pursuer/male pursued relationship is the reverse of what we were used to seeing on TV in the 1990s.
And then there’s the makeup. Either Michael Weiss has double lashes like Elizabeth Taylor (which pictures not from The Pretender suggest isn’t true), or the makeup department has really gone to town on his eyes.
(If I have the mental energy, at some point I’m really going to want to write a longer piece about the frequent appearance of twins on the show, and how it relates to the Victorian literary trope of the “tragic double.”
