Cas has done a hell lot worse betrayals, and he’s allowed to stick around like family.” Tone slightly bitter.

I can’t be alone again is the same exact sentence echoing in his own mind, as he stares into those blue eyes he could get lost in for hours. “In.. the time you’ve been around, helping getting him back.. there’s - something I’ve wanted to show you. Something even DEAN hasn’t had the privilege to see.” Lucifer’s palm still on his cheek.

𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄 𝐈𝐓 𝐖𝐀𝐒, and for Lucifer, it was enough. Hearing Sam ask for him to come back, to be with him, at his side-- it was the connection that Lucifer had sought to have for so long. He’d thought he’d never find it, after Michael. After Father and his family-- He’d thought that connection with another, one who could understand him and want him in their life, wouldn’t exist anymore. 

He was the Devil, after all. Who could ever love a monster like him--? 

But he knew Sam did. He knew, somehow, that Sam felt for him in a way Lucifer hadn’t experienced in way too long. And he kept stroking that soft skin of the hunter’s face, looking deep into those eyes, like he himself could drown there as well. 

And Lucifer then nodded. “ I will. I’ll... If you truly want me back-- ” If you truly mean it, and want me... “ Then I will return with you, Sam. ” Lucifer leaned closer, forehead coming to rest against Sam’s. 

But then it caught him, that Sam had something else. Lucifer frowned, an air of confusion on his expression for a passing moment. “ What is it? It’s not a horrible thing, is it? You’re alright? Okay? ” Because if anything was wrong with Sam, he’d rend the world apart and everyone in it.

There are tiers to godhood, and Ryu knew from the first moment they were aware of each other– as divine beings are wont to, magic-to-magic and immortal-to-immortal– that she was a different breed from him. Ryu is of this realm no matter how you slice it: a being of power, but nevertheless one who calls the earth his home. This woman, who he’d come across as he made the trek down from the peak to a village that needs his help (there’s magic in the ice at the top of a mountain, which he’d gathered for his medicine), doesn’t even feel earthly.

The way she speaks gives the same impression. Her words aren’t particularly specific, and they’re as mysterious as can be, but there’s a sense of homesickness in her tone that feels even worse than his does.

“…I see.” A lame response, but one all the same. Ryu isn’t exactly known for being sociable.

“It must’ve hurt.” Even without elaboration, he knows as much. “Does being out here… remind you of it?”

𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐓𝐔𝐑𝐍𝐄𝐃 𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐑𝐃 𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐈𝐑 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐏𝐎𝐍𝐒𝐄, and Lucifer looked at them, solidly, hard and piercing stare in her eyes, as the essence of what she was seemed to strengthen within her. Their question gave her a pause, like the Fallen one wasn’t quite sure how to answer at first. 

But only for a moment. 

“ More than you can imagine, ” she answered, words almost biting in their shortness. If she closed her eyes, she could feel the pain of Michael’s blade; she could feel the fires around her as she plummeted down... and down... and down... she could feel the earth crashing around her, and then-- 

Then came the piercing cold of Hell itself, encasing her in its harsh embrace--an embrace she’d never wanted. Freedom, yes. Respect, yes. The ability to be her own self, yes. 

But never the absence of all she’d ever known. 

“ It... reminds me of a better place, ” Lucifer whispered, though why she even deigned to answer the fallen god’s question, the archangel wasn’t sure. Maybe it had been so long since anyone had spoken to her kindly, had looked at her--not with hatred, disgust, but with curiosity and maybe even understanding--that she could not help but reach out. 

“ It reminds me of my home. ”

What happens to anything beautiful?

𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐒 𝐅𝐋𝐎𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐓𝐎 𝐇𝐈𝐌, like on air, a river of breath that he barely seemed to register. He can remember beauty, creation. Goodness in every aspect of the world. 

“ It gets destroyed, ” the Fallen one whispered back, but his voice had a bit of a biting tone to it. Harsh. Whispered though his words might have been, there was pain there, as well. “ Beauty cannot last in a world full of ruin and decay. ”

Lucifer should know that better than any other, and in a way, he did. The most beautiful--so many had deemed him such, before. Now? Now he had Fallen. Had succumbed to the darkness of Hell’s touch, and there was no getting that rightness back. 

No returning to the bright light of Heaven. 

“ It simply... cannot be. And the darkness destroys it. ”
