Prompt: April telling Jackson she is pregnant but they’re still married.

“April! I’m home.” Jackson announced as he walked into the apartment he shared with his wife. His wife. After six weeks of counselling, they were really making things work. They fought, they talked, there was tears, and apologies and understandings made and they had come out stronger. They were getting exactly what Jackson had told April he wanted - her.

Jackson heard no response to his greeting and decided to call out for her again. “Hello? Sweetheart?” Jackson repeated, still he only heard his voice echo and no reply as he walked through the kitchen and living room, he checked if she was in their bedroom. She was definitely at home, she told him that she would see him at home an hour ago, at the hospital. And she wasn’t on call, the plastic surgeon checked the bathrooms, and realised there was one room in there home which he hadn’t checked. It was empty now, it was cold and light couldn’t seem to lighten it up anymore.

Taking in a deep breath, Jackson opened the door. He saw the redhead lying on the carpet floor, staring at the ceiling. He lay beside her in the same position and looked up at the ceiling too. “What do you need?” Jackson asked. He saw small tears slowly fall from April eyes. “I’m sorry…” April began, “No, hey, we’re working on this, it’s okay. I promise.” Jackson said, in attempt to calm the trauma surgeon. “This is different.” April replied. “You have another reason to hate me.” She said. Jackson softly touched April’s waist and pulled her above him. “I love you. I do not hate you.” Jackson reassured her.

“You said you wanted me.” April announced. “I did.” Jackson agreed. “You want me. Not this.” April said. “This? April, we’ll work through this stuff together.  Me and you. I want you and I want to be here for you.” Jackson pushed, not understanding April’s sudden lack of confidence in their future. “Jackson, I know of all of that. But now..” April eye’s lingered down her body. She slipped her hands into Jackson’s old hoodie that she barrowed but never returned, and she felt the four positive pregnancy tests tap off her fingers as she made eye contact with her husband, he spoke up, “April, you’ve got to talk to me. What is wrong?” April sat up and mirrored her motion. She took his hand in his and placed the pregnancy tests in his hand. Jackson eyes wondered down to their hands and he felt tears prickle at his eyes when he saw the two red lines. “April!” He gasped out with a wide smile. “We’re having a baby?” Jackson laughed. April softly smiled up at him, but had a look of uncertainty. “Hey,” Jackson said as he pulled back a piece of her hair. “We can do this.” April kissed him softly. “Do you really want this?” The redhead asked. Jackson smiled and he scooped her into his arms as placed his hands on her non-existent-but-soon-to-be bump, he looked into his wife’s eyes.

“I want this.”

Jackson wasn’t rude nor dismissive of April . They joked like the best friends & soulmates that they are . If he knew that she was in trouble he would be there for her . Can y’all stop saying he wants his sister when he doesn’t & it’s clear that they write him differently when he’s around April as to when he’s around Maggie. He’s himself with April Thursday episode showed that

Jackson tried to be there for April after Samuel and it didn't help them either of them. What do you see changing now when they seem farther apart?

I hope it doesn’t go unnoticed for Jackson. I don’t know what writers have in mind but I really hope that he’s there for her at some point. Jackson isn’t having a crisis of faith, it’s April’s battle. I think he is the only one except for April herself and Harriet to be able to help her through this. April’s world has been broken several times, and Jackson was the spectator pretty much of all those moments . It takes me back to 11x07 actually when they sit on the bench and have a conversation about why a patient died that day. Jackson says it just happened and April says that she doesn’t understand how he does that. They both don’t know how another is doing it but they respect each other’s beliefs. And we have 11x11 where Jackson prays even though it’s so foreign, but it matters for April. He was there for when April was comforting the woman who’s fiancé died and he heard her words of comfort. All the time April questioned God before, he was there and supportive. So I hope they write Jackson as concerned in any of the following episodes because it happened before and he can be there for her.

Can you explain more about jackson being the only one who's there for April? Does he know best how to? What's his personality/ approach to being there for her?

I think that with as dark as April has gone, he is the only one who will be able to reach her. He has the best chance at knowing how to help her because he shared some of her pain. He also lost Samuel and his marriage. Part of what is hurting her is hurting him too. I think his approach will depend on what it is that finally makes him see how badly she is hurting.

what would you have expected from jackson if he had known about how much april was going through? when jackson is there for april what does he do?

He just be should there for her. Just a hug will be enough that Jackson will always be there for her. Good word to build her strength. Bring Harriet for her because she is the light of her life. Trying to help her, mentioning about how hard times she had but she didn’t give up and all these bad experiences built her strong character. Because she is a soldier.

Follow-up to my Review of 14x10 “Personal Jesus”

I love chatting with all of you in my DMs about April, Japril, and Grey’s, but after my review, I was getting several of the same or similar questions and I felt like I was repeating myself.  So, to save myself time and my fingers pain, I wrote my answers to a few of the questions here.  I should preface this by saying, I have no idea what is going to happen.  This is simply my interpretation of the story.

why do you love japril so much?? have you ever written a post on this

I don’t think I have.

Well, I can’t describe the feeling really. I think there’re so many things I should mention but I’m sure I’ll forget something.

I love best friends to lovers trope. I even more love that we witnessed colleagues/friends to best friends thing.

I love how natural it felt to think they’re so perfect together when something sparked between them in San Francisco. I liked the show but I wasn’t passionate. I loved April and Jackson as individuals and friends but I don’t remember thinking about them romantically, so when it happened… It was something I didn’t think I needed.

I think they’re so different and yet so similar. I feel they have some of the same insecurities and they have been each other’s rock. Both of them such dorks and what I love to see is when for example Jackson’s guard is off. He’s the dorkiest with April. His face softens around her. I love this.

I desperately want them to be together for good but I absolutely love how and when they’re fighting for each other.

There’re so many things really but I guess the reason why I really love them is because Sarah and Jesse convinced me to. Their chemistry is undeniable. They care, they listen to each other and they just make you feel so proud to be a fan of them. I think they’re absolutely brilliant actors on their own, no matter how we might not like the material, but when they have scenes, it’s impossible not to root for them. It seems like I’ve given up so many times but the hope that these two might have scenes just prevails my cries of “it’s over”. It can’t be over as long they’re passionate about japril.

Karin and I, we had a long friendship before I let myself realize that she- She’s the love of my life, you know? Of course, you know. You- You have that with Jackson. And I heard from the pastor that you were pregnant, so you have, what, a three-year-old now?

I think that April loosinng her faith is really interesting storyline and it can really move her story. Also I saw people seeing that japril is dead because of how jackson was acting towards april. He was upset, angry. Its not over. I actually start to think that this is new beginnig to Japril.

Yeah, Jackson wasn’t really paying attention to April because he was preoccupied with Eric. I think he wasn’t snappy, rude or mean. I don’t see where people are seeing this. There’re times when Jackson is mean on purpose but this time he wasn’t mean at all. He was teasing her about Matthew but it wasn’t to hurt. He let her know about his experience. I think it was great. April learned gutting truth  about the world, that was all. So many things were happening in the episode. I think if Jackson was aware that April was losing her religion  so to speak and tried to help it would kill the purpose of showing how shattered April’s beliefs are by the end of the episode. So people need to chill and no blame either of them for sleeping with other people or “being” aggressive. I think April will find her strength again and it really might be the new beginning for japril.

greys ramble

I’ve been thinking about April alone at the bar scene a lot. And seeing a lot of comments with empathy or sadness for no one being there for April. It’s true April does find herself kinda alone. But I think over a course of a long she chose that. While, I’m super team Japril and naive enough to think they will actually back together. I think part of problem with Japril was her lack of ability to let Jackson be there for here and constant running away. Not even the middle east thing. Just like not coming to bed during the Samuel thing or staying up all night to read medical journals. Not being able to suffer together. Even back to the very first fight where she like low key moved out for a week. But she does need other people.  I think the last episode showed that. I really hope that in the arc we see a less guarded Kepner.  And if she ever does get back with Jackson (which probz not because of KV) I hope she lets him be there for her more this time. As much as last night episode was painful to watch, in some sick way I am glad she’s struggling

And what did he get for it? Replacement children. PTSD. Was it worth it to have been a faithful servant? Or would it have been better to just curse God’s name from the beginning? Where was God throughout all of Job’s suffering and pain? He was winning a bet with Satan. Makes you wonder where He is through all the unfairness and inequity and cruelty in the world.

I know Japril has/had communication issues. I know that failure to communicate was a huge factor in their divorce. That being said, it is absolutely inconceivable to me that we're supposed to believe they never talked about Montana until the first episode of this season. They lived together at that time. They have a child. The last time they slept together while separated Jackson chased her throughout the hospital to force a conversation about it.

I totally agree. I also hate that Jackson seems so unaffected by April moving out. Jackson always cared about April whether they were friends or lovers, whether they fought or not.

At this point it is rather obious that the writers don’t care about the character Jackson Avery or his history. All they care about is how he fits into Maggie’s world.

Japril Rant

I don’t know why people are so adamant that April is the one who ruined the marriage. She’s the one who failed in the marriage and she deserves the divorce and so forth. Have you watched the last two seasons?? She was dying and went away to save herself. She didn’t do it to spite Jackson, yes she hurt him immensely but April thought Jackson was coping well. You guys should watch JTM again especially the scene where April and Jackson hash it out. April says something so important “What is it Jackson, what pisses you off? That I want after the thing I needed to heal or the thing I needed wasn’t you?” That in my opinion is the most important line of the episode and it describes why they fell apart. Jackson could not help April in her grief and April wasn’t there to help Jackson with his grief. She did not need him but he needed her. April messed up and Jackson messed up. What happened to April and Jackson was very real, you had two people in love with one another and tragedy hit and neither one could help the other and they eventually fell apart. It is beyond me how some people put all the blame on April when Jackson has made the same mistakes. This is what makes this storyline so interesting not only could I see both sides but I understood it and agreed with it.  I was agreeing with BOTH April and Jackson and I wish that they would BOTH apologize to one another. What April and Jackson went through was horrifying, loosing Samuel was painful and hard and overwhelming but it was real, it was very real.

Finally put some thoughts together

Jackson is scared. He’s terrified. The most hurt he’s ever been and the most pain he’s ever felt was dealt to him by April. Why? Because he loves her more than anything so she has the power to kill him, and has before. Even after April’s big boo hop over Montana which was heartbreaking, no doubt, Jackson still doesn’t believe it can work out between them. Even though he loves her, even tho he wants to be with her, he believes they don’t see marriage, relationships, and commitment the same. And how could be? Last memo he got from April on that subject was that she can check out whenever she wants, physically, emotionally, and he just has to get with the program. No apology, no remorse for it. In his mind she truly thinks that’s okay and he can’t accept that for himself, even if it kills him to watch her leave. Time and again. What can Jackson say to her at this point if in his breaking heart he doesn’t think they can work? Does he give her false hope? Wouldn’t that be more cruel? Or does he let her go, knowing it’s causing her pain to live with him? Knowing they’ll never work out when they aren’t on the same page of what “spend every day together until we die” means. I mean the man did try multiple times to get her to understand that and she wouldn’t. To Jackson, it’s just the way it is. A sad unfortunate fact of his life. Now April.. I don’t think that’s even on April’s mind. I don’t believe she thinks if she just tells him she gets it now, that she’s so sorry and will never leave again, that he would 100% go all in with her. She believes he is over her and she is nothing more than his friend, baby mama and sometimes casual sex partner. I don’t think she realizes she holds the keys to the kingdom in her hands. If she would just tell Jackson that she wouldn’t hurt him again, he would be with her so fast your heads would spin. And I truly don’t understand why so many people are quick to say Jackson has feelings for Maggie when to me it’s clear he doesn’t. He avoided her. He was awkward and uncomfortable with her. Meanwhile he’s chasing after April all episode to talk about what she said to Maggie because it’s simply not true. Then she tossed him a major curveball when she tells him she’s been in pain since Montana. The Maggie issue fell to the way side after that, but it still remains true that he doesn’t like her and was about to tell April that fact. And I don’t think Maggie likes him either. I think it’s a big case of everyone misreading the situation. Jackson thinks Maggie likes him and is weirded out. Maggie thinks he likes her and is weirded out. April thinks they like eachother and obviously not okay with that. And the truth is they don’t even see eachother that way. It was the necessary plot point to get things rolling, open the flood gates that is Japril. April moving out is a good thing. Both she and Jackson will get a nice long look at what it is to really be apart and how much they need eachother. The actual heart of the matter, the reason they are not together. Things will have to be addressed, finally. And I think Maggie is going to end up being the facilitator of that. She’s going to see what’s really going on between them and try to fix it. That Jackson is terrified of being hurt again and that April believes something totally not true, that he just doesn’t love her anymore. Anyway just some thoughts I had to get out of my head. I’m really excited about this storyline. Finally April and Jackson’s relationship takes center stage instead of being the elephant in the room for two seasons. The fact that they love eachother, want eachother, need eachother. That they are soulmates and meant to be. That’s what this storyline is and for the first time in a long time, I can’t wait for Thursday’s to come.

Also props to Sarah and Jesse for that scene. Wow. That’s the first heartfelt scene from Japril we’ve gotten in so long. Her heartbreak was palpable and his pain from realizing it was written all over his face. Truly beautiful performances.

I think that after what happened in last weeks episode that the worst of the Jaggie bullshit is over. I still believe that there was nothing there to begin with. That Jackson doesn’t like her like that at all. I have no idea what Maggie feels and I don’t really care but the concussion that I have come to is that Jackson has none of those types of feelings. At least that what I hope anyway but I’m and pretty sure. I do really think that there is still hope for Japril this season.

I also think that Jackson staying quiet at the end of April’s speech at the end of 14x02 was the best thing he could have done he let her talk about her feelings and he didn’t make it about him (which is what would have happened if he had.) he let her have the floor and tell him everything she needed to do even if it was clearly breaking his heart. He didn’t mean to hurt her and the sex in Montana was NOT nothing it MEANT something.

I just don’t think he want to bring it up and rock the boat so to speak. April also could have brought it up but she didn’t I think for similar reasons. I think everything was good with them when they got home and they when back to normalcy in a way and continued about there lives without talking about it. They when back to being parents.

Then April got jealous and made them have to talk about it what they in a very Japril fashion hadn’t talked about. Not that they talked about everything. There is so much they still need to talk about.

This break they are taking is very well the best thing for them. They need to figure out who they are after everything that has happened to them. They need space to heal and miss each other. They never tell got the chance before. Sometime space and time is all we really need to see what’s right in front of us.

I think they very much still love each other and have both hurt each other deeply and they really need to heal from that and then talk about everything for real this time and some agonizing needs to be done and then they can be together again.
