Memory Fragments from the Mist: A Child of the Snow
[[ A little drabble for that memory Rexis recalled during this lovely RP. A smol Rexis in the snow and/or with a pet is a happy Rexis. Enjoy~ ]]
Rexis grumbled in his seat as he stared out the window. Despite being born and raised on Venus, the ten-year-old hated how hot it was for the most part, save for the places that the Orokin had made cold. Why couldn’t he have been born on a cold planet like Pluto? Or among the water cities of Neptune? He loved visiting those places with his parents on business trips.
But Venus or Mercury? He hated both places but that was where his parents worked most often. Earth and Mars were hit or miss, but that depended on the location. Lua was also nice, but he was never allowed to wander there. Then again, he wasn’t usually allowed to wander anywhere. The only times he could was if invited by someone to wander with them when his parents made a house call.
He knew house calls meant someone was quite ill, but he liked them because he usually got to interact with other children his age. At least, he was usually allowed to explore and play with them in their home and the immediate area around while he was there. Unfortunately, this time the one who was ill was the only child of the family. He felt bad for the other child, but he was bored out of his mind.
Rexis was trying to behave himself as instructed. The only thing that encouraged the ten-year-old’s discipline at current was the promise he had made his dad and the one his dad made to him in return. That if he was good and didn’t cause a fuss, they would go to visit the snowy hills of Venus during the warm cycle that afternoon.
If there was one thing his parents could bribe him with, it was going there. He loved way the snow felt, the way that the coolant glimmered like liquid crystal, and he especially loved finding and watching the Virminks and Bolarolas wander around.
In his boredom, he started humming a song that his mom had recently started teaching him, trying to distract himself from the heat that radiated through the window. He wanted to get up and move to someplace cooler, but he was told to sit there. So he sat and waited.
After what felt like an eternity to the child, Rexis’ patience was finally rewarded when his parents came out to the sitting room. The mother of the other child thanking them for their help as his dad gave her final instructions for helping her child recover. Rexis’ mom came over to him with a warm smile.
“I heard you humming, sweetie. You’re getting better with hitting the right tones~” Melia praised her only child.
Rexis lit up. “Thanks mom!” He hopped up from the seat, eager to get going. But he knew his manners in front of others, especially others of the high class and nobility. “Will he be alright though?”
Melia ran a hand over Rexis’s soft, blonde hair reassuringly. “He will be fine. Don’t worry, sweetie.”
“That’s good!” The ten-year-old cheered as his father came over.
“Well, we’re done here for now. We’ll come back in a few days to follow up on his condition.” Kevir informed Melia as he led the way towards the door. Once outside and headed for their Liset, he then looked to Rexis with a smile. “Thank you for waiting patiently, Rexis. I do believe there is now a snow-covered landscape to visit after lunch.”
“Yes, please!” Rexis’s cerulean eyes sparkled in excitement and his parents laughed lightly as they headed for home.
That afternoon, the Glaciras made their way to the area designated for the public among Venus’s frozen terraformed landscape. Melia barely managed to get Rexis’ gloves on before he sprinted down the Liset’s ramp and into the snow, laughing the entire way. Melia and Kevir followed more slowly, her arm looped around his as they happily watched their child play in the snow.
“Rexis!” Melia started running towards Rexis when she saw him fall face-first into the snow.
Rexis quickly raised a hand with a tiny thumbs-up before flopping over onto his back, laughing as he made a snow-angel. His laughter stopped when a snowball landed on his stomach. He sat up and looked around, spotting his father putting together another one. “Hey!!” Rexis scrambled to his feet and attempted to put together a snow ball with his tiny hands, keeping an eye out for the next one to be thrown his way. He barely ducked under it before tossing the one he made. Unfortunately, it fell short and he stomped forward to be closer, scooping up more snow to make another.
“If you two are going to get rough, count me out!” Melia stepped aside while laughing, putting some space between herself and her husband, who was making another snowball.
Kevir waited until Rexis’ next snowball hit him before gently tossing the one he just made. Rexis didn’t move in time and it landed on the young boy’s head, dusting his blonde hair in more snow crystals.
“Brrrrr!” Rexis shook his head to shake off the excess snow before rushing towards his dad. He reached down and scooped a bunch of snow with his hands and flung it into the air at his dad, creating a mini cloud of snow.
Kevir laughed as he was dusted in snow before returning the favor. The two continued this for a few minutes, Melia laughing lightly at the scene, before Rexis suddenly stopped.
“Hmm? What’s wrong, sweetie?” Melia asked first, worried.
“Did you hear that?” Rexis looked around, searching for the source of the noise he heard.
Kevir and Melia both stopped and listened, the faint whistle of the wind was all that was heard until what sounded like quiet whimpering reached them.
“There it is again!” Rexis commented before running to where he believed was the source. Kevir and Melia followed and after a few minutes, the three found an injured Red-Crested Virmink cowering among the shelter of some rocks, the snow around it stained a brighter red than its fur.
“Aw… Hey little buddy…” Rexis said gently as he started to kneel nearby it. He kept a distance away just in case it lashed out, but he slowly reached a hand out towards it.
“Rex-!” Kevir started to scold him for getting near the injured animal but Melia placed a hand on her husband’s arm, silencing him.
The Virmink whimpered and shrunk back against the rock.
Rexis paused his movement, letting his hand linger in the air in front of it. “Shhh… Shhh… It’s ok. I’ll keep you safe. Let me help you…” He honestly didn’t know if the Virmink understood as he had only watched them from afar. But he kept his tone light and quiet, trying to show the Virmink that he wasn’t going to hurt it.
After sitting there in tense silence for a moment, the Virmink rewarded his patience by sniffing his hand a moment before shifting positions, exposing its injured hind leg. Very slowly, Rexis pulled off his scarf and slowly shuffled over to the Virmink close enough to gently wrap its leg. He paused every time the Virmink seemed to flinch, gently reassuring it before continuing until he had wrapped as much of the injury up as he could with his small scarf. The Virmink sniffed at the scarf when he pulled his hands away before it tried to get up. As it flopped back down into the snow, Rexis gently scolded it.
“No, no. It has to heal before you can walk around. I was just stopping the bleeding… Um…” He looked back to his parents worried. “Can… can we bring it home? Erm… just until it heals?”
Kevir furrowed his eyebrows while Melia put a hand to her chin in thought.
“Alright, we’ll bring it to a vet and see what they have to say.” Melia answered.
“Melia! It’s a wild animal! Let nature take its course.” Kevir said in a hushed tone, frowning deeply at her.
Melia shot him a look and kept her tone hushed as well. “How can you say that when it’s our family’s occupation to take care of the sick and injured? It hasn’t harmed Rexis and it seems to be one that is more docile than other Virmink. That’s probably why it got injured. See the trail?” She pointed to red-dotted snow that lead all the way back to a distant cave. “It must have run instead of fighting back.”
At the harsh hushed tones, the Virmink shifted slightly such that it pressed against the young boy’s back. Rexis felt it shaking against him, whether it was in fear or from the cold on its injury, he wasn’t sure. Trying to reassure it, the boy reached back and gently pet its soft fur. It froze for a moment at the unfamiliar touch before it pressed gently into his hand, eyes closing slightly from the nice feeling.
Kevir grumbled. “Fine. Just until it’s recovered.”
Melia smiled. “Thank you, honey.” She turned to Rexis and the Virmink, a look of surprise crossing her face as she watched Rexis pet it. She gave her son a gentle smile. “We’ll bring it home, Rex, and make sure it gets the care it needs.”
“Thank you!” Rexis chimed before looking to the Virmink. “We’ll take good care of you. Mom and Dad are amazing doctors.” He gave it more reassuring pats before slowly standing as to not startle it. It tried to stand again but before it flopped back down, Rexis gently steadied it. “Come on, Minky.”
“You named it already?” Kevir gave his son a dumbfounded look.
“I gotta call Minky something other than ‘the Virmink’ or ‘it’ all the time. I don’t know if Minky is a boy or girl yet.” Rexis countered as he encouraged his new furry friend to take a few steps forward towards his parents. The Virmink resisted a bit and Rexis gave Minky a reassuring smile and pet it again. “It’s ok, they won’t hurt you.”
After hesitating a moment longer, the Virmink finally moved with the young boy as he guided it to his parents and then on to their ship. Rexis held it close the entire ride to the vet’s and then stayed close, reassuring it as the surprised vet examined it.
“Nothing life threatening, but the ligaments are damaged. She won’t be able to run or walk properly for a long time. I could do a quick surgery to help with that, but since she’s a wild animal I don’t know if it’s worth it to you or not,” the vet, Christine, explained.
Rexis looked to his parents with quiet, pleading eyes as he pet the sedated Virmink on the table.
“You know, we have been talking about getting him a pet to keep him company…” Melia gently reminded her husband with an amused smile. “And since she’s so docile and the possible runt of a litter, per what Christine said earlier, she may not survive being put back out to the wild.”
“But it’s a wild animal, the wild is where it belongs.” Kevir countered. “It could have some disease for all we know, and we’ve let our child handle it this entire time.”
“Other than the injury she seems to be clean and in good health. While rare, you are not the first ones I’ve seen with a pet Virmink, probably not the last,” Christine answered the unsaid question.
Kevir looked between the vet, his wife, his son, and then the Virmink in question. With a sigh, he shrugged and chuckled. “I seem to be vastly outnumbered here.” He then looked back to Christine and gave a nod. “Alright, we’ll go through with the surgery. And give her any shots she needs.”
Rexis gave his dad a bright smile. “Thank you!” He then turned to the half-asleep Virmink. “You hear that, Minky? You’ll be better soon.” He kept gently petting Minky until she was taken away for the surgery.
Rexis sat in the waiting room with his parents as they discussed his new responsibilities as a pet owner. With the recommendations of the secretary nurse, they also created a shopping list of things to get from the pet store later. After the surgery, they borrowed an empty carrier to bring Minky home. Leaving Rexis and Melia to get Minky settled in to rest, Kevir went and returned the carrier before getting the pet supplies.
Minky was bright-eyed and actively looking around when Kevir returned, but she tucked her ears down and whimpered from her makeshift pet bed of soft blankets upon seeing him.
“Dad, come say hi to Minky. You gotta show her that you’re not gonna hurt her.” Rexis piped up from the living room as Kevir put all the pet supplies down in the kitchen. He had stayed next to Minky the entire time, gently petting her and finger brushing her fur as it had dried slightly matted from the quick rinse-off at the vet’s.
Kevir chuckled. “I should, shouldn’t I? Seeing as how Minky is now a part of the family.”
As Kevir came over, Minky coward a bit more. She was immobile with the cast on her back leg, so she tucked her face under Rexis’ arm.
With as gentle a tone as his baritone voice could muster, Kevir knelt beside his son. “Hey, Minky. It’s alright… I may have been upset earlier, but it wasn’t towards you.” He carefully, gently pet the soft fur of the Virmink, stroking down her neck to her back. After a moment of this, she slowly moved from under Rexis’ arm and the man stopped petting her, unsure of what she was doing. He held his outstretched hand still as she sniffed it before she pressed her head to his palm. He chuckled softly and continued petting her. “She really is a beautiful creature,” he commented, taking a closer look at the coloration of her fur.
“I’m glad we found her and not something or someone else.” Rexis commented as he gave her a hug, nuzzling his face into the soft fur of her neck before pulling away a touch, wrinkling his nose. “Though she could use a bath. Mom and I wanted to give one to her once you got back cus we don’t know how she’ll react.”
“Let’s get her settled in a little more before we surprise her with something like that.” Kevir pointed out. “We can get everything else set up for her in the meantime.”
“Oooh, ok!” Rexis beamed and followed his dad around the house as they prepared it for their new family member.
The ten-year-old was excited to have Minky as his first pet, promising his parents over and over that he would take good care of her. In turn, he promised Minky that as soon as she could move again, he would take her out to run around in the snow of Venus together as often as their hearts desired.
A few weeks later, the blonde young boy and his red-furred virmink were playing in the freshly fallen snow among the hills of Venus, as promised.

Rexis chuckled and nodded at the comment about being from here with regards to helping Biz. Reliable could describe him, but he helped Biz for more personal reasons. A memory flashed in his mind of fresh snow, virminks, and a Corpus-less Venus in an era long gone. More specifically of a red-crested virmink he once knew. Putting the memory aside, he turned his attention back to Joker, nodding on occasion to indicate he was still listening. It was an interesting list of downtime hobbies, that was for sure.
When the Mesa finished, Rexis nodded slowly, thinking. “I understand that well, having not been part of a clan for… an Earth decade and a half? Well, however long it’s been since clans started forming. But back on the topic of shooting stuff, I tend to use a bow more often than a gun and consider myself fairly accurate with it. Perhaps it would be interesting to swap methods sometime and see if our skills hold up with the other’s weapon of choice?”  He suggested with another chuckle.
“And dancing is another hobby we share. Though there are many types of dancing. Ballroom styles tend to be my favorite, but such events are few and far between nowadays. What style of dancing do you prefer?” The Frost Prime asked curiously as he led the way around a turn, heading in the general direction of Rude Zuud.

Rexis clung to Limbo as they swiftly made their way to extraction. He noted the scratched up exterior of Limbo’s Liset before being shoved into the panel, now understanding where the earthquake from earlier came from. Tucking that thought aside, he stumbled into safety of the Liset, moving aside for Limbo to get on.
After the Liset shifted into hyperdrive, he sat down onto the floor unceremoniously, grunting slightly as the numbing he had put on himself started to subside. Putting a bit of ice on the sore spots, he sighed as there wasn’t much more he could do for himself without proper rest and relaxation.
Hearing Limbo’s suggestion, he nodded. “The springs sound like a wonderful idea.” He then took out his datapad and directed his own Liset to auto-pilot it’s way to the clan dojo. Having it wait there for him would be better than leaving it cloaked near an actively-alert Corpus base.
“And thank you, Limbo. I don’t normally get myself into jams like that, but I suppose today is just one of those off days...” Rexis certainly felt off beyond his injuries as the anxiety of his damaged Frost Prime sat at the back of his mind. The forgetful Tenno had lost track of how long had it been since it had gotten damaged that fact alone concerned him. “But it wasn’t a total waste of time!” He pulled out a chunk of plastids from a pocket and showed Limbo with a smile, trying to find a silver lining for the whole ordeal.
A Freezing Rescue (closed rp w/ @gilded-riftwalker)
Limbo felt the pulse of healing energy, and the pain had vanished. The bleeding also appeared to have stopped, which was good. It would’ve spelled trouble had it continued.
A cacophony of yells and screams from outside the door along with the sound of hurried steps got the primed Warframe’s attention. He sensed that some hopeless sap managed to get caught in the stasis-bound Cataclysm outside and quickly levitated his hat to activate Rift Surge to not only trap the idiot, but to radial banish anyone in their general vicinity.

Rexis heard the yells and screams outside the door, stopping his search. Hearing Limbo announce what he himself was thinking, he opened his mouth to say something before he felt a shift in his senses. It was similar to shifting into the void plane, but at the same time it felt very different. It took him a moment to realize he had been Banished as only his Warframes had been Banished by a handful of other Limbos in the past.
It was almost disorienting but he didn’t have time to process anything else before he felt himself be lifted up. He suppressed a grunt of pain as his side injury was pressed against the sentient Warframe’s stomach, however he wasn’t going to protest being carried. The Tenno wasn’t in the condition to run and, despite the sting, in this position his injury was more or less protected. Hearing Limbo’s instructions to hang on, he wrapped his arms around the sentient Warframe’s neck.
Rexis stayed silent as Limbo moved quickly to carry him out of there, passing by various crewmen and travelling up to another level. That is, until Limbo stumbled and turned to crash into a wall in a manner that kept from crushing the injured Tenno.
Startled, Rexis looked to see what had caused Limbo to stumble and saw the Nul variant Scrambus unit. He scowled as the whip-wielding lady spoke, noting the two detron-wielding crewmen behind her. He then smirked, an idea crossing his mind.
Rexis wrapped his right arm a little tighter around Limbo’s neck before letting go with his left. “You need to chill with that whip, ma’am. You might poke someone’s eye out with it!” As he spoke, he quickly moved his left hand forward, letting out a void blast that took the form of a thick wall of void-ice with spikes on the outside between them. Meanwhile, the back blast covered himself and Limbo in a shimmering layer of shielding void-frost. With a quick crushing gesture of his hand, and some effort to push out the reach of his void abilities, he quickly created a second blast emanating from the floor below the Scrambus unit to mimic his Frost’s Ice Wave ability, intending to trap her hover boots in ice and anchor her to the floor.
Between his exhaustion and half-numbed pain, Rexis added an additional deadpanned comment on impulse. “And could you do us all a huge favor and take a figure-skating class before you dash around so inelegantly next time? Thanks in advanced.”

Rexis listened to the Mesa, nodding on occasion to confirm that he was still listening. He chuckled before speaking up. “You can just call me Rexis, then. And I understand the lack of socialization very well. I usually freelance and lately I’ve ended up running the missions solo more often than not.”
He shifted his weight to his other foot, looking towards where the soup shop was. He considered it until he recalled the possible awkward situation with regards to his lack of ability to Transfer through his Warframe, unlike most other Tenno. He looked back to the Mesa with another “smiling” tilt of his head. “In all seriousness, you don’t have to pay me back for hiding you for a few minutes. I’m happy to help whoever needs it. However, we can certainly walk and talk for a while as I don’t have any other pressing matters to attend to.” He gestured to the direction opposite of where the Corpus had gone before taking a few steps to guide the way through the shopping area.
Rexis continued. “To answer your other question, I’m in Fortuna today simply because I felt like it. I feel at home in the snow of Orb Vallis so I often help Biz with catching servofish and various fauna.” He then looked to the Mesa. “Tell me a bit about yourself, Joker, what do you like to do in your downtime?”
A Derailed Shopping Trip (closed rp w/ @ask-silly-warframes)
Rexis quietly watched the Mesa pick up the MOA parts and put them back, letting out a small chuckle at the nicknames she had given the Taxmen. He then fell silent again as the compliments that followed caught Rexis off guard. It was not often that he was complimented for his Frost Prime’s looks as if they were his own. Then again, he always considered his Frost to be an extension of himself so he decided to accept them anyway.
He gave a slight bow, one hand in front, the other behind, as he introduced himself. “I am Rexis Glacira.” He straightened his stance and tilted his head slightly as if to smile, though he was smirking internally. What harm was there in a light compliment back? He was curious as to the Mesa’s reaction if he slipped one or two in as he spoke with a polite tone. “A pleasure to meet you, my fair lady. And I appreciate the offer, but I must decline as I do not drink.”
Rexis noted she seemed like the kind of person who could easily get into trouble with her outward attitude towards the Taxmen. He also noted how she held the package close, as if it were the most important thing in the world to her at the moment. “This being said, I would be happy to accompany someone as fine as you on your day’s journey. If there is anything else I can assist you with, m’lady?”

Memory Fragments from the Mist: A Walk on Lua
[[ A story drabble to go along with the commissioned art done by @prosperyne / @orokinprince found here!!! Please check it out! And give a follow while you’re there~ This is fairly long, but I hope y’all enjoy it~ ^_^ ]]
Rexis wandered the empty and deteriorating halls of Lua again. The seat of power when the Orokin empire thrived was now just the ruins of a glorious past that ended in bloodshed. It was the place where almost all the Tenno slept in cryostasis and dreamed. Where their real bodies had been hidden away in the folds of the Void until Lua reappeared.
The Tenno recalled his time there, having refreshed the memories from his Frost Prime prior to arriving. He had wandered these halls between missions back then. Interacted, and sometimes flirted, with other Tenno around his age. He wasn’t the oldest, but he was one of the eldest compared to countless others much younger than him at the time. He was naturally a leader, if only due to his age, and was often asked to gather and organize information, help assign tasks, and resolve any internal conflicts.
He recalled the typical hangout spots of those he often gave assignments to. He couldn’t quite recall names, but he knew a group that ran spy missions hung out at the corner down to the right and a group that often played go-fish usually sat on the benches to the left. Still others played various games using the table to his right.
The lonely Tenno trailed his fingers along the golden edges of the table as he walked past it. He heard echos from his memories. The boisterous laughter that was desperately needed to keep their spirits up, the hushed conversations and giggling of those that liked to speculate and gossip, the calm conversations of those distracting themselves by analyzing a brand new book.
What had happened to them all? All those familiar faces, the various voices he had come to know by heart, the colorful personalities that added life to these white halls between missions... Aside from the Inva Twins, all the Tenno he interacted with in the present he hadn’t met before. He knew there were countless children on the massive ship that was the Zariman Ten-Zero, but he wondered where those he took care of back then ended up. Had he… misguided them? Was he the reason why they were nowhere to be found? Rexis had the feeling he would never learn the fates of those Tenno.
Shaking his head to clear the thoughts before they became a threat to his own stability, he stopped by the door to a large locker room. Noticing and wandering in, he realized he had rediscovered where he and other squadmates kept their personal items. Some lockers had been opened and ransacked while others stood perfectly pristine and locked. He wondered why there was such a difference as he walked in before noticing the signs of an old struggle. He figured whatever happened had stopped whoever was looting things, but the winner must have had no interest in the spoils as various objects were still scattered about. He picked his way through the rubble and headed to where his own locker had stood, curious as to its status.
He found his old locker and stared at the closed container that was both familiar and unique to him yet uniform in appearance to all the others. Running a hand down the front, he was drawn to a past memory.
---
Shortly after Rexis had turned fifteen, he had been “promoted” and reassigned, thus he had to move his stuff from one side of Lua to the other. Whispers surrounded him as the younger Tenno watched him stride through the halls with only a small box of his personal belongings. While many Tenno held onto numerous keepsakes from before their time in the Void, clinging to some semblance of normality, he held onto only the few things that were most important to him. He silently found his new locker and without a word unpacked a few digital-framed pictures, some tools, a couple media storage devices, a small potted plant, and an ornate trinket box.
The whispers got louder when he pulled out the last item as it was something that only those of high status would have. He certainly looked like he could have been royalty with his features and the way he carried himself, but it was a result of his parents having taught him how to properly take care of his body from a young age. That, and having been born to high-class parents, he was trained in proper etiquette for interacting with nobility, which became his default way of acting when it came to people he was unfamiliar with. Some lower-class Tenno liked to tease and bully him as such, calling him “the ice prince” or “as cold as gold”, but as much as it hurt he could never refute the truth of his own choices of words and actions. This being said, to those above him his heritage and history didn’t matter now that he was a Tenno, despised and used by the Orokin just like all the others.
After he closed his locker, he turned to those who had been whispering nearby with a polite smile. His voice was light, but firm. “It’s rude to talk about someone when you don’t even know their name. I’m Rexis Glacira, the new Commander for the Recon and Recovery squads housed in these barracks.”
At this the other Tenno immediately apologized, having not realized that Rexis was the one assigned to replace the recently fallen Commander. He knew they sincerely didn’t want to get in trouble already and he waved a hand dismissively. Glad to have somewhat broken the ice with these unfamiliar Tenno, he gave them a warm smile and relaxed his tone. “It’s fine, it’s fine. Really, it’s a pleasure to meet you all. If you don’t mind, could you round those up who aren’t on a mission or preparing for one? I’d like to meet everyone in the mess hall in about half an hour.”
“Y-yes, sir!” With that, the group scrambled off, leaving Rexis alone in the locker room.
He sighed and turned back to his locker, opening it to make sure he remembered the combo correctly. With a click it opened and he pulled the trinket box out. “Mom, please watch over me, that I may guide them according to what you and Dad taught me...”
---
Rexis opened his eyes from the memory and recalled the combo again. The sound of a strained click met his ears, but the locker opened with ease. He peered inside expecting nothing, but to his surprise what he had left there remained mostly intact. The photos, the storage devices, everything was where he had left it. Even the plant was there, though it had long since withered. However, he reached for the trinket box first.
He ran a thumb over the top slowly, wiping away the dust to reveal the gold, white, and blue design of the box before he opened it, a familiar tune immediately meeting his ears. A tune his mother sang to him despite the Void madness slowly taking over. Even now Rexis swore the music was what helped keep his mother sane, what gave her one last moment of clarity before she and Rexis’ father took their own lives.
Rexis knelt on the floor, holding the open box close to his chest, head lowered. The tune was soft and simple, but now that he listened to it again after so long, it pulled forth a painful longing from the depths of his heart. He could almost hear his mother’s voice harmonizing gently with the rise and fall of the melody. A phantom warm embrace seemed to surround and protect him from the horrors of life, even if only for a moment.
As he sat there in the silence filled only by the music, vague memories seemed to come to the forefront of his mind. Memories he didn’t realize he had forgotten until now. He closed his eyes again, letting it wash over him.
---
“Mom! Mom!” Fourteen-year-old Rexis was jogging into one of the infirmaries of the ship, his mind finally made up on what he wanted to ask his parents. They had been floating in the Void aboard the Zariman Ten-Zero for a couple months now. The entire time they had been stranded his parents were busy medically tending to those they could, his father being a renowned doctor while his mother worked as an apothecary. While they had originally been there to take care of those of the upper echelons of society aboard the ship, they had begun taking in anyone who sought their help since the accident.
“Rexis, shhh!” Melia Glacira turned from the sleeping patient she was examining and held a finger to her own lips. She kept her voice to a whisper. “It’s late. You should be going to bed soon.”
“But… Mom…” Rexis gave her a pleading look, keeping his voice lowered as instructed. “Can you pleeeease sing for me tonight?”
Melia gave him an apologetic smile. “Sweetie, you know I need to-”
“Just for a few minutes! I know you and Dad are busy… But I…” Rexis bit his lower lip. His resolve was quickly crumbling away under the responsibility his parents had. But he was their child. He could be selfish for once, right? “I just… wanted to spend some time with you… beyond teaching me things…” He started tearing up, torn between his selfish request and risking the lives of those under his parents’ care.
His mother stayed silent so he continued. “One… One night wouldn’t hurt anyone… would it...? If it would... I won’t ask again… But I… I-I miss…” He found he couldn’t speak anymore, his voice taken over by restrained sobs as he lowered his head in shame. How could he ask something so selfish when so many lives were on the line? His parents were doing everything they could keep other parents, and some children, alive. They were working day in and day out to find something to combat the madness taking all the adults over. As it was, there were already numerous reports of bloodshed from the lower areas of the ship. So how was his happiness and loneliness worth anything compared to all the other lives they were trying to save?
Melia looked at her son in a bit of surprise before she softened. Coming over and taking a knee in front of the young boy, she wrapped her arms around him, gently stroking his soft, blonde hair that had started to turn blue at the roots with the influence of the Void. “I’m sorry, Rex, I didn’t know you felt so lonely… We’ll sing tonight. And tomorrow night. And the night after that. A few minutes each night won’t hurt anyone, I promise.”
With the tender touch and reassurance, Rexis broke down, clinging to his mother. He knew he had to grow up fast given the circumstances. Already he was doing so much to help care for the younger kids who had lost their parents. But that didn’t erase the fact that he was still a child himself and still wanted to be with his parents as much as he could. Especially given he didn’t know how much longer they would be around.
As Rexis began to calm back down, Melia stood back up and gently wiped away his tears before taking his hand. “Come on, sweetie, let’s go get your father. Have you picked what song you would like us to sing?”
---
Rexis opened his eyes and wiped his own tears away, still clinging to the singing trinket box. He finished dusting off the box as he smiled sadly. “If only you could see me now, Mom, all the things you taught me let me help so many others... I’m sure you and Dad would be proud of me...”
After a moment, he closed the box and silence settled back into the area as the echoes faded. Slowly he got up and took a few deep breaths. Once he recomposed himself, he gathered the items in the locker, putting some smaller things in the trinket box and pocketing others. He looked at the small wilted plant before taking it and carefully placing the pot on top of the box. Perhaps there was a seed or two within the soil that could be salvaged, slumbering in wait for the day water would breathe life back into it.
Rexis then decided to take the items back to his landing craft and have lunch before he continued with wandering the halls for the rest of the afternoon. There was nothing pressing to attend to and he had found himself going to Lua that morning on a whim. As he placed the items carefully down within the confines of the cockpit, only then did he realize how much he needed this trip for his own mental and emotional health. He hadn’t expected to find his old possessions, he honestly thought they were long lost and didn’t bother looking out of fear of disappointment, but he was glad he had them now.
After a quick lunch he wandered back out, letting his memories guide him to another part of the broken moon. He found himself in other familiar halls, those that he often navigated in the final months before all the Tenno went to sleep in the Reservoir.
These were the halls that reminded him of someone else who was deeply imprinted on his heart. His mind replayed the bold laughter of another Tenno, one he had found to be the epitome of tall, dark, and handsome. At least in his own eyes. The beauty and handsomeness of other Tenno Rexis had flirted with prior couldn’t compare to the attractive personality that drew Rexis in when it came to Aniran Ignitia.
As he turned a corner, Rexis let out a chuckle into the empty halls as he recalled how insistent Aniran was with being called “Agni” instead. It had taken Rexis a few corrections before he finally just changed the name on the copy of the squad roster he had in order to keep himself for messing up again and again when asked to round up people for missions. But from his memories, he couldn’t recall if Agni was actually upset with him or not whenever he forgot to use the nickname instead. He shrugged to himself then stopped and noted where he had walked to.
“This is…” His voice caught in his throat as he briskly walked around the perpetually moving statue in the center of the room, heading to a partially walled off area opposite the door. Within that area, light streamed in through an inwardly-curved wall made almost entirely of windows. He slowly walked over to the center of the glass wall, looking out over the broken landscape of Lua, the stars shining overhead.
Looking at the windowsill, he traced his fingertips over the top edge before sitting down on the floor. He loosely crossed his legs as he leaned against the wall, propping his head up on his hand with his elbow on the slanted top half of the wall, and gazed out the window. Back then, it was a perfect view of one of the major landing pads. Whenever Agni went on a mission without him, he would come here and wait for his return. Sure, Agni’s real body was in a Somatic Link pod deeper within the moon, but he was within the Chroma that he used. And he waited for that Red Chroma’s return, every single time.
---
Rexis curled up against the windowsill of one of the observatory rooms, occasionally glancing out at the nearby landing pad between the pages of the book he held. He wasn’t terribly interested in the book, but more used it to cover up the fact that he was waiting for Agni’s return. He still hadn’t confessed yet. Quite frankly he was afraid to.
Rexis previously flirted with girls, boys, even those who identified as neither or both. What they identified as didn’t matter to him as much as their personality. As for Agni? Rexis had no clue what the other Tenno preferred as Agni didn’t seem terribly interested in anyone from what he had observed. Because of this, Rexis made sure no one else picked up on the fact that he was head over heels for the charismatic Tenno. He couldn’t handle the more teasing on top of the whispers behind his back for his seemingly favored position in the ranks. Even less so if anyone found out that the Red Chroma-user he crushed hard on didn’t even look at him that way.
“Rex-rex!” A young girl’s voice brought the older Tenno’s attention away from his spiraling thoughts.
Rexis looked up to Kayla Inva, one of the children he had taken care of on the Ten-Zero, running to him. “Hmm? What is it Kayla?” He raised an eyebrow as he shifted his sitting position to better face her.
The eleven-year-old stopped and looked down at him, a gleeful smile on her face. “What cha reaaaadin’?”
The sixteen-year-old blinked in confusion before he laughed, having expected a different answer to his question. “Oh! I’m reading a book Agni thought I might like.” He held up the book to show her what it was.
“I thought you didn’t like those kinds of books?” Kayla tilted her head as she inspected the cover with her purple-pink eyes.
“Yeah… Weeellll I’m always willing to give things another chance. Maybe I just hadn’t found the right book of this genre yet. And this one is turning out to be fairly interesting.” He kept his tone light despite still not being a fan of what he was reading, but when it came to Agni he couldn’t refuse.
“Oooooh, ok! Nick and I are gonna go get dinner. Do you wanna join?” Kayla hopped on her toes a bit, black hair pulled into ponytails bouncing along with her.
“Hmmmm... I’m almost done with the book. I’ll join you after.” Rexis gave her a smile to cover up the half-truth. He couldn’t tell her why he was really sitting there, but he had no other excuse to stay.
“Okay! I’ll go tell Nick!” Without another word, Kayla turned and ran off.
The older Tenno let out a sigh before turning back to the window. Propping his chin up on his hand, he muttered to himself. “Why is this so hard… I only have a few weeks before the next phase begins. Once the Reservoir is complete, once we’re done with all this training and fully engrossed in war... Will I even have the chance to tell him?”
---
A rumbling brought Rexis out of the memory and he glanced around before realizing that it was just a few rocks outside that had fallen over. A sigh escaped his lips as he gazed out the window again. “Never got a chance before we all slept in the Reservoir… Even after I just... couldn’t…”
Rexis mentally kicked himself in regret. As much as he had tried to convince himself that it was ok to confess via his Warframe, the fact that it didn’t feel genuine enough was what stopped him. He didn’t want to hide behind the mask of the emotionless Warframe for a false sense of confidence. Agni’s Red Choma was as unique as his own Frost Prime’s in design and color choices, so he always immediately knew it was Agni when he saw that Red Choma walk by, when he heard the loud laughter echo down the halls between missions. But Rexis wanted to be able to see Agni’s eyes, to hear his real voice, to be in his physical presence when telling him how he loved him. So, the icy Tenno had resigned himself to just enjoying Agni’s relative presence through their Warframes with the hope of one day confessing when the war was over.
The Tenno’s heart ached as he thought about it all again. He never got a chance after the war either. Things moved so fast. The Orokin empire fell and they were all put to sleep, even their Warframes. He had known he had a time limit back then. He had known his window of opportunity was closing as the Orokin Empire fell into chaos. He recalled the last time he saw Agni, his Red Chroma, and that he had made a point to say “See you later” instead of “Goodbye”.
But now he would likely never have another chance.
Despite how much Rexis desperately wanted to see the fiery Tenno again, his hope was dimming more and more each day it seemed. He had been awake again for sixteen years, encountered numerous Tenno and many Red Chromas. Yet not one of them was Agni. None of them had the same style, the same bold personality, the same laugh…
Rexis continued to sit there in silence, staring out the window in longing for his heart’s desire. What shenanigans would Agni drag him into with the current state of things? What crazy stunts would the bold Tenno pull just because he could, especially now that he had no one to answer to or get in trouble with? The lonely Tenno didn’t know how long he was there as he imagined what it would be like to see Agni again. He didn’t want to look at the time as time kept betraying him, but another thought subsequently interrupted his daydreaming.
If he waited there, in the same place as he used to, would Agni appear? If he waited to hear that infectious laugh echo through the room, would he be able to happily listen to Agni’s story about the latest mission he was on, like back then? If he came back here every day, like a prince waiting for the dragon to steal him away, would he finally be rescued from his lonely fate? Even if Rexis still couldn’t bring himself to confess to Agni…
Would he at least be able to see his sunshine again?
The glimmer of hope that remained seemed to brighten, only to dim as logic told him the idea was ridiculous. Then again, holding onto a possibly one-sided love for so long was also something others would likely scoff at, but Rexis just couldn’t bring himself to move on. The hopeless romantic had given his heart away a long time ago and he didn’t want to abandon the one who had brought warmth and happiness to his cold world during those dark times.
With this in mind, Rexis decided to sit there a while longer, resolved to come back occasionally on the off chance that Agni was doing the same. Even if only for old times sake.

The hesitation caught Rexis’ attention. Frowning a touch as he slowly stood up to also look around, he took a moment to look over the avian-headed Warframe first. He had heard Limbo go through a few altercations on the way but thankfully he seemed fine overall. And then he noticed the red that did not belong in Limbo’s color scheme.
Rexis thought for a moment more as he looked around the area beside him. An injury like that had to hurt, even for a tough Warframe. Limbo was clearly trying to stay strong for the two of them to be able to get out of there and Rexis didn’t want to outright embarrass him. However, the Tenno also knew his abilities couldn’t “heal” Warframes like he could himself or other Tenno operators. He had tried before with other Tenno’s Warframes during past missions and the most he could do was stop the bleeding and numb the injuries. The Warframes still had to be repaired after the mission, but it was at least something that could tide them over until they got out of there.
With this in mind, he turned and took a few steps in Limbo’s direction as the Warframe was scavenging through the lockers. With the fourth step he slipped into the void plane and gathered what energy he had before he dashed through Limbo, sliding his free hand over the injury to impart some healing energy into the Warframe. The Clan Warlord came all this way to help him out of the jam he had gotten into, so this was the least he could do for now. And with the state of things Rexis knew they needed to do everything they could to survive.
The Tenno slipped back out of the void plane with his next step, putting his good hand against the locker he ended up in front of to stabilize himself. He let out a heavy breath through gritted teeth as he opened the locker, inspecting the contents. Rexis tried to keep his voice steady, though he was genuinely disappointed with the lack of materials to use. “Hmm… Nothing useful here either.”
A Freezing Rescue (closed rp w/ @gilded-riftwalker)
“Rexis…” Limbo replied worryingly, knowing that he was breathing shallowly on the other end. This rescue was a tad harder than he thought. “Just stay put, then…I’ll be there soon.”

[[ I’m gonna assume all four active muses XD
Rexis would have an interesting adventure spending time with the lot of them. Most likely he’d be helping Valk keep tabs on the other two Warframes and keep them out of trouble. Or perhaps he’d take Valk out for a walk so she can have a casual chat with someone who won’t constantly drive her up a wall. If she started venting about what she constantly deals with while on the walk, he would quietly listen and allow her to let it out.Rexis would certainly enjoy Hatter’s humor. Perhaps the two would get into a war of jokes on afternoon until the old Tenno can’t withhold his laughter anymore. He would then query the Limbo on what kinds of tricks he could do with his abilities. This would likely lead to another instance of a messed up riftwalk, but the Tenno would certainly try to help him out of the predicament and heal any injuries that were incurred.
As for Joker, well, they could certainly start up a shooting contest, which Rexis knows he wouldn’t win. The Tenno is far better with a bow and he would challenge the Mesa to give it a try one day, after showing her how to properly handle it of course. He would, after a little while of watching her attempts with the bow, give her a crossbow alternative to try.
Last, but certainly not least, Rexis would enjoy having tea time with Topper. He would strive to try a different flavor of tea every visit based on what the MOA had on hand that day. In return, Rexis would gift some of his own tea blends to the MOA to offer others in turn. ]]

👌, even though I have yet to do anything with Van or Rabbit here >>
[[ No worries!
Even though Rexis knows Rabbit has only been studying medicine for a short while, he would volunteer himself any time he got injured more than his regeneration abilities would handle in a day. (Hmmm… thread idea after the shenanigans Rexis is currently in alongside Limbo?) He sees it as a chance to give Rabbit practical practice and experience with what he’s learned. Sure it could be considered risky, but Rexis is confident enough in his own Vazarin mastery to handle any possible complications.Rexis and Van would, at some point, take a day (or three) to pamper their kavats. Yes, all of them. Rexis would gladly help care for all of Van’s kavats, also seeing it as a way to get to know Van better. Even if the two don’t really talk much on personal matters during it all, spending time bonding over their kavats would be well worth the time and effort to the older Tenno. ]]

Movement caught Rexis’ attention as he watched a blue, yellow, and white Mesa dash through Legs’ shop, bumping into some of the MOA parts that were sitting around before she headed his way. He heard the request of the Mesa as she… hid under his syandana? He almost let out a chuckle at the odd situation, but he restrained himself as he noticed the Taxman asking around about the Mesa.
The older Tenno knew well of the strained working relationship between Nef Anyo and Solaris United. Would these Taxman really risk causing a ruckus here, though? Regardless of what was going on, he knew several trigger-happy Tenno would have no problem making the situation worse than it appeared to be if the Taxmen didn’t back off.
The Frost user considered briefly to step up and handle it himself. However, he knew the shopkeeps could take care of themselves. After all, those of Solaris United were no pushovers, especially with the backing of so many Tenno. Even more so with several Tenno right there, giving the Taxmen warning glares already.
So, Rexis decided to stand his ground, letting the Mesa hide behind him until the Taxmen moved on in their search. He kept candid, as if the Mesa wasn’t there, playing the silent guardian until it was reasonably safe. As he watched, the Atlas and Hydroid that had been talking with Legs took a couple steps towards the Taxmen. He couldn’t hear what was said, but the tone from one of the Tenno was low. It was clearly a warning for the Corpus to stop and leave.
A Derailed Shopping Trip (closed rp w/ @ask-silly-warframes)
Rexis was wandering through Fortuna via his Frost Prime, listening to the hustle and bustle of those around him as a variety of Tenno and Warframes met with those who called this place home. He personally had just turned in some servofish to Biz and was debating what to do next.
He found himself over near Legs’ shop, listening to him create another rhyme about the MOA on display for the daily special. Legs’ concentration was currently on a brown, green and blue Atlas and Hydroid pair, though a few others had gathered around to take a look. Rexis stood there for a while looking over the cheerfully beeping MOA and wondered what having one as a pet would be like. But like every other time he considered it, he wasn’t sure if his kubrows and kavats would take kindly to a MOA in their home, even if it was friendly.
Maybe he should take a look at what Smokefinger had to offer today while he was at it. His kavats certainly liked playing with the shiny gems…

[[ Ooooooh this will be fun~
Rexis does drink on occasion, but it’s always been alone. He’s never been one to socially drink for… a variety of reasons. Upon hearing about Volt’s Palace, however, his curiosity would definitely be peaked. New places and social spaces are always interesting to explore, even if he doesn’t partake in the alcohol.
But with the right atmosphere, a good host, and an overall enjoyable evening that he’d like to try and remember… He would become a regular visitor of the club. And very much look forward to what Volt has planned for the evening (especially the choice of music).
Perhaps he should visit soon and finally try one of those fancy alcoholic drinks for once. (To the surprise of both the host and the bartender?)
Shall we get a thread going sometime? ]]

[[ I’m gonna throw a future idea out there for Rexis and Limbo with this one.
At some point in time the two clan dads will have figured out who can handle what better. So when one ends up getting swamped (cus you know how things like to happen all at once for people) and he comments about still needing to get something done, the other just chimes in “Nope, already taken care of.” Or something to that effect anyway. And it will either have actually been taken care of already or he is going to go take care of it now that he’s aware of it. Playing off the “You’re clearly exhausted, let me handle this” idea of group parenting.
Then one day they’ll just end up having a digital checklist/document that they share. They add to it as they find things that need to be taken care of so each is aware of what all needs to be done for the clan at any point in time. Long comment threads on things that they need to discuss before taking action would pepper the document. Things that get done are moved to an archive document for record keeping sake.
The clan uncle and whomever else they feel like could be added to this secret checklist later if needed/wanted. Though Rexis would find it fun to tease the kids, and even the clan uncle, on how he and Limbo just happen to know what the other is working on at any point in time, without needing to verify with the other first. Hehehe… ]]
