𝗪𝗮𝘁𝘁𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘅 Documentary/1973. Wattstax was a benefit concert organized by Stax Records to commemorate the anniversary of the 1965 riots in the Watts community of South Los Angeles. The event took place at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, August 20, 1972.

This is a real story that happened to us. In January, a UN delegation came to our street. They didn’t help us. They have a few families on a list and they ignore everyone else. They ate fruits and snacks and drank mineral whatever in front of starving people who only have contaminated water to drink. People tried to talk to them, to tell them their stories, to ask for help, but they were dismissed.

This is why we have to rely on this campaign. No organization has ever helped my family. We only have ourselves and kind strangers who give us money. Please don’t let us down now. The war is back. Prices have skyrocketed. My soul and my hope are dying.

We’re so close to the final goal! Please, I want to be done with this so I can focus on my new semester without additional stress. I don’t know what I’ll do after, but for now, I want it to be done. I’m exhausted.

You ever think about the MOVE bombing and then think about the fact that so few US Americans even know that the MOVE bombing like. Happened.

I live with 2 roommates, one of them has cancer, me and the other one have mono rn. My roommate who has cancer gets a port put in tomorrow to start chemo. The house isn't even clean enough for that yet, because we haven't been able to afford to get all the proper cleaning supplies.

Everyone in the house was disabled before all this, and I've been the main provider for a while. Right now, adding to the shittiness of it all, my check is late, and if it's not in by tomorrow, we won't be able to pay rent on the 1st, which would get us evicted because we don't get a grace period.

We need about $1,300 before the 1st just to get the house clean for her to start chemo and to pay rent. Oh, and the storage unit that is holding all of the stuff I have left from my dead dad is closing, and we need to rent a truck and drive up there and get our stuff before that happens on the 15th.

The gfm is specifically for my roommate and her needs through treatment, the funds given to it will specifically go towards her needs. My links above are attached bc we need to cover rent now, and even if we tried, we could not use the money on gfm for that due to the 3-5 waiting time. The money on gfm now will be just enough to cover an apot copay and a large shipment of some meal replacement drinks since she's struggling with dramatic weight loss.

my friend is still dying

anas's gastric cancer is metastatic and he's suffering terribly. i've seen videos and photos of him vomiting blood and i don't feel right sharing even if he's given me permission because i shouldn't have to show you my sick friend at his worst for people to care. he is not alone. he still has to care for his parents all while dealing with this illness taking so much from him, and the hospitals in the strip have been left with nothing to treat him. all i want is my friend's safety. all i want is his happiness. please give whatever you can

the scale of destruction is barely being uncovered as people are being allowed to return to their neighbourhoods. already, many have started trying to salvage and rebuild what was destroyed. but reconstruction will take years, and in the meantime, basic civilian infrastructure is virtually unavailable. for now, while some families will choose to stay in Gaza and rebuild, others still want to evacuate as soon as they are able. it's important to support both.

the alanqars (@/zinaanqar) are aiming to evacuate as soon as possible. with 4 children all under 10, including a newborn, everyday is still an uphill battle for basic survival. more than that, there are health conditions that need urgent treatment, and can only be treated outside of gaza at the moment.

please help them out, they're getting very close to their total goal!

Today, January 23rd, is Ed Roberts Day. Ed Roberts was a disabled activist who is considered to be the father of the Independent Living movement. “The greatest lesson of the civil rights movement is that the moment you let others speak for you, you lose.”

After hearing about the death of David Lynch, I went looking for this fantastic set of "Twin Peaks" themed commercials commissioned by Coca-Cola Japan from their Georgia range of canned coffee, but was surprised that no one seems to have posted it previously.

Broadcast in 1992 and 1993, this series of commercials was actually written and directed by Lynch himself. The series tells the story of a Japanese police detective, Takeshi "Ken" Saito (played by Takanori Kikuchi, most famous for portraying Kaoru Kino in "Kamen Rider Agito"), who asks Agent Dale Cooper to search for his missing fiancée, Asami Hara.

Apart from Kyle MacLachlan reprising his role, Catherine E. Coulson (The Log Lady), Kimmy Robertson (Lucy Moran), Harry Goaz (Deputy Sheriff Andy Brennan), Michael Horse (Deputy Sheriff Tommy 'Hawk' Hill) and Mädchen Amick (Shelly Johnson), also return in their roles.

The campaign explained and expanded the story of the four commercials with additional material printed on the side of 32 special edition Georgia cans of coffee. A planned sequel to the TV commercials was halted when when the campaign did not increase the sales of Georgia range of canned coffee as much as Coca-Cola had expected.
