Hey there! My name is Rachel, and it’s always been a dream of mine to start something that helps animals in need. Thankfully, I have an awesome friend [Kylie] who is as crazy as me, and BOOM - Forgotten Tails was born.
Every since I was a kid, I was obsessed with helping animals. This included anything from rescuing worms who are helplessly drowning in a puddle, moving snails off a sidewalk, to a spider whose trapped in a window sill, all the way to bigger animals. I once yelled at a bunch of kids who were throwing rocks at geese.
Taking my passion into adult life, I earned an associates degree in animal management, a certificate of Entomology through the USAF, and a bachelor's degree in Animal Behavior, Ecology, and Conservation with a minor in Anthrozoology (it’s a mouthful I know). I have worked at Busch Gardens, rehabilitation centers, The Buffalo Zoo, and have volunteered/interned for countless animal centers.
Over the years, I have shared my home with rats, a bearded dragon, an iguana, hedgehogs, geckos, frogs, toads, rabbits, birds, owls, snakes, and dogs. I have brought back dogs from the USVI to be adopted out locally, and I have ran after stray dogs in Arizona (in 109 degree heat) to bring to their local no-kill shelter.
I have a pit mix named Brandi, and unfortunately don’t have enough space for another dog - which is why Forgotten Tails means so much. I not only get to spend time with all sorts of animals, I get to help them find homes too, because let’s face it, I can’t adopt every animal :)
Founding and running Forgotten Tails is going to be exciting, and I can’t wait to share all our experiences with you!

Welcome to Forgotten Tails! We are Kylie and Rachel. Co-workers, besties, animal lovers, and now co-founders! We wanted to start Forgotten Tails as a way to focus on animals in the Buffalo area (and beyond!) that have been without a loving home for far too long. It’s hard to understand why so many precious creatures go unadopted. We wish we could save them all! Instead, each week we’ll be showcasing different animals from shelters and rescues, with the hope of helping to find the perfect home.
Look for our first animal spotlight this weekend!
If you know of a rescue or shelter that we should work with or an animal we should meet, please feel free to reach out!
