a popular headcanon / theory for the medicine seller(s) is that they are kitsune and i'm still trying to decide where i stand on that. certainly there Are a lot of similarities between kusu and kitsune, so much so that the wiki itself has pointed it out, so it wouldn't be surprising for him to at least be kitsune-adjacent
