"why is everyone always so up in our business we're not (only) hedonists" story of being a charles fan so far

there’s a lot of mockery as to why someone would be a charles/ferrari fan floating about at the moment mostly perpetuated by tired old jokes about ferrari strategy (sometimes reasonable)/pit stops (not at all reasonable this season, our pit crew are incredible), but the jokes have really taken on a bitter and acerbic tone recently. which, isn’t at all representative. being a ferrari fan is ultimately an act of hope and faith and dreaming and we are allowed to shout at our screens when they make a weird strategy call but ultimately what should be celebrated and recognised is our neverending FAITH! il predestinato will bring the championship back home and we cling to that hope even through the lows of this season.

i'm sorry if you've already answered this in the past but do you like charles' racing? and if you are a fan of him, what are some things about him that stand out to you?

Hi hi! I love Charles’ racing, I wouldn’t be a fan of his if I didnt. I haven’t talked about it in a while because the car has been a little rough, but it’s probably time to bring it back!

Charles’ wheel to wheel is really fun to watch (obvs especially with max because I think they just know how to race each other really well) and a lot of the times that he’s in a longer battle you can see him trying new things lap after lap and strategizing as he goes. The drs chicken in Bahrain and Jeddah 22 are good examples. He uses the features of the track as strategy tools but also learns from the previous lap to see what works in a particular situation and what doesn’t, and when his opponent has caught onto it he changes it up. He’s fun to watch because it’s really easy to read what he’s doing, through the cars body language or even through lap times. There was a sprint in Austria (? Maybe also 22?) where Carlos was suddenly pressuring him for the first time in ages and you could just tell something was off, and then charles was like eugh just warming the tires! and pulled like 4 seconds on him in a single corner. Hard to imagine now that we’re on lico all the time but you used to be able to tell immediately when he was holding back for something

We haven’t had a certified Charles quali special in a while because the car isn’t quite there atm. You can tell when he’s going flat out and it’s magical to watch. It doesn’t just look fast, the car is being thrown around to an extent that it looks like it’s about to flip over. It’s always the last lap of q3 too and then it’s like oh. We’re DRIVING driving. And then you have to cling to your couch and try not to go into cardiac arrest. Very very fun

A lot of journalists call his driving “acrobatic” not just for the above reason but also because of the way he’s able to find this delicate balance within even lowkey shitty cars, and that’s why he so frequently out scores his teammates. That used to mean something to do with the differentials and managing rear tire spin. It also means he’s gotten really good at managing tire wear though and recently it’s been very comforting to me that of all the things to worry about, charles eating through his tires isn’t one of them. He’s won some races on just tire management alone and I think that’s another point in the favor of thinking strategically about the whole race and planning accordingly, as well as just being an excellent driver

There are definitely more reasons I like watching him but these are just a few!

i mean i was probably too harsh on practically all my favorites when they were rookies so i try to be a little more generous to them now. i do admire your haterism tho, that’s powerful stuff

i knowww 😭😭😭 we need another lestappen renaissance. i know like a quarter of the grid is rookies now so we’re just in a lull as we wait for their storylines to reveal themselves but narratively this season has been dead broke

the one thing ill say is it’s giving sequel. part iis usually suck. max is carrying the whole plot rn and he’s doing his best but even that has part ii energy. kind of emotional yet hopeless. it’s like in oceans twelve when they all end up in prison, or iron man 2 when tony stark had to drive in the monaco gp, or the bourne whatever when what’s her face is just suddenly dead???

thats how I hope we’ll remember this season: mid, full of side plots and devoid of all hope, but ultimately just a brief bottle episode that will set us up tonally for the absolute banger that will be part 3. im a delusional ferrari fan down to the bone, but I truly believe our time will come again
