End of Summer

Fall is officially here  and it's still freaking 85 degrees outside. If you're from the south you totally understand Christmas could be warm and sunny. Or you could wake up to snow and by lunch its gone. Sierra and I said why not give it one last go around for summer.

Sierra is wearing a simple blue Strappy denim  dress from Kohl's  White leather Converse and a classic pink hat from Urban Outfitters. This kind of outfit is nice and flowy for warm days, and it's easy to throw on with a long cardigan for those chilly nights. Sierra really and fun with her accessories because the dress is so simple.

My  entire outfit is vintage in the sense I have had everything I'm wearing for years. My royal blue shorts are from the Jennifer Lopez collection at Kohl's. I paired my everyday classic white tank top and a Vintage top from  Goodwill that cost me $2.00.  Every time I wear this top I get some many compliments and questions. For my accessories I added a gold chain belt, gold watch, and bracelets. My shoes are from Nine West and are over ten years old. 

Always remember your tall is beautiful.

For Brenyce

Meet Brenyce! She is an amazingly talented fashion illustrator that also happens to be 5 foot 8 inches. She has a naturally slim body frame and owns her unique style. 

We had the chance to catch up with her and ask her a few questions:

How does being tall affect your day to day life?

Well, I definitely have a better view of things, haha. I guess that I am so used to my height that I don't really notice how it effects my day to day schedule. The only time I realize that I may be too tall is when I hit my head on something, when I am already ducking to go under it.

What helped you embrace your height and body type as far as your style?

My body type is thin and tall. I've always had a small frame so I was use to shopping for my small size. As I grew and got taller I had to learn how to shop all over again. Clothes were either too big or too short. I've learned the styles and sizes that work for me. And honestly fashion magazines are the greatest help for my body type. Although some people may shame fashion models, I was inspired because their bodies looked like mine, so I would refer to them for styling tips. But its still hard when it comes to shopping because even though the models are silm like me, it is till hard to find my size. 

How does it influence your fashion illustration and design aesthetic?

Being tall makes it easier to accommodate other tall people. My fashion illustration design aesthetic has a traditional style, which is the updated modern liking. I think my client profile is similar to my shape only because I know it best. I know that I will definitely expand my client profile as I evolve more as a designer. 

Any advice for a tall girl like you?

I feel like I see a lot of women that walk around without confidence. Do not be discouraged by your height, embrace it! Use your height to your advantage, it is your gift.

How to Wear Denim on Denim

It feels like summer time. Which means it's time to pull out those crop tops and any assortment of denim material that you can find. Right now I am loving high waisted jeans, so when I found these light blue ones at Forever21, I had to grab them. Also, the slits at the knees break the blue up at the perfect spots. I paired the jeans with a contrasting bright yellow halter crop top. 

 I felt this crop top brought more attention to the denim. I wore my favorite blue denim shirt as a cover up again, in case you want a more modest approach or need to cover your arms up when you get inside. When wearing denim on denim I think it personally works best when you wear denim of the same shade. But if that doesn't work out I usually try to gradient them with the lighter denim on top of the darker denim, like I did here. But if you can make it work the other way then #slayonsister!

For Clarke

My friend Clarke has a very striking style. And I love how unique it is to her and how she owns it. She’s also a fellow tall girl standing at 5 feet 9 inches tall. Today we wanted to feature her exclusive tall style on our blog!

How do you feel about fashion?

Fashion is very interesting to me because I feel like its a medium to express yourself and tell a story about yourself before someone even meets you or starts talking to you. Also, it tends to be as simple or as complex as you want it to be. Some days you throw on whatever you feel like at the moment, and some days an outfit can be like a work of art if you want it to. I feel like the way clothes are put together, the combination of colors and textures, can even be compared to the way a painter or any other artist arranges colors and textures on their canvas.  

How does your height influence how you dress?

Personally, I’ve grown to really enjoy my height. I remember when I was younger I used to downplay it, but now I definitely embrace it! Sometimes my biggest challenge, though, is finding pants that fit well. If it fits my waist well it tends to run too short length-wise a lot of the time, and if I buy a pair of pants for the length it’ll be too loose around the waist. Sometimes I combat this by just cuffing my pants at the bottom so that the shortness then becomes an intentional fashion move! haha . Otherwise, I just shop at places like Gap and Old Navy for example, that have “tall” sizes. 

Advice on owning your own style: 

Wear what you like! Honestly, it’s as simple as that. Most often, I pick one item of clothing or shoes that I just feel like wearing that day and I arrange everything else around that. Also, experiment often! You don’t have to get stuck in one particular style. Personally, I feel like my style is always changing and evolving. Finally, don’t be afraid to buy things in a color you don’t “usually wear” . For example, for the longest time, I wanted these black Vans sk8 highs….but when I finally saved up and went to the store to buy them I realized 1) I have too many black shoes lol and 2) sooo many people buy their sk8 highs in black …so I got some tie-die blue ones! and now they’re one of my favorite shoes.

Summer Slay

It's starting to warm up and get pretty hot this spring. It's  time to get some sun on your legs and arms. Rompers are a great way to show some skin and have something quick & easy to throw on as we head into summer!

One thing about romper is I have so much trouble finding rompers that fit! I can't wear the ones with shorts because they are always too short. They almost look like a bodysuit, and even though those are in style now days, it's a bit much. Rompers should always be cute and comfy!

  They have  been in style for a while and I've had this one for years. This one stops below the knee in a capri style length, instead booty shorts. It's also strapless and can be paired with a statement necklace. I paired it with a light blue linen button down shirt that I left unbuttoned. 

So be sure to find yourself a good romper before this summer that's an appropriate length for your height, that also has a fun print on it.
