i like that we see ^_^ as a smile even though its mouth is totally straight. Its happiness is so radiant it need not smile to let us know!

Gritstone Viking Grave Slab, 900 to 1000CE, The Yorkshire Museum, York
The telling of traditional Scandinavian stories was an important part of everyday life for the Vikings, even those who had travelled away from their homeland to York. One epic story was that of courageous hero Sigurd, who slayed the dragon Fafnir. Images from this story are shown on this grave cover of an important Viking, who was buried beneath York Minster. While they were Christian, it showed that they still remembered the stories from their homelands.

It is the first of May. Upon going on an adventure to purchase something sweet to increase my blood sugar in hopes of killing my foul ketosis breath, I experienced a swarm of greenflies incessantly assaulting my glasses to which I began fantasising about the invention of some kind of ocular windscreen wipers with what I imagine was accompanied by a thousand yard stare (impaired of course by the literal insects blocking my vision). Indoors feels like Hell fire and the tower fan only blows the hot, stagnant air directly at me; I cannot breathe in the absence of an open window and opening the window allows for a parade of insects to crawl in and gallivant around as though the dank four corners of the room could be of any interest to something whose domain is a wide, beautiful open world (to where I inevitably have to of course capture and return them anyway). The sun bounces and reflects off my glowing anaemic pallor which burns my eyes (and likely anybody within radius) and I feel like the abominable snowman; a cryptid scuttling down the street in my pasty, hunchbacked shame to my imagined horror of the waiting cars as I attempt to ghoulishly cross the road. The shop I go into is playing Africa by Toto on the radio as I sweatily make my purchase and I, too, begin blessing the concept of potential rain. I bring ancestral shame to my relatives who emigrated from England to Australia in the 70's. I am fuming and feel wretched. There is no escape for me. It is the first of May. A humiliating, disgusting ordeal for THE FIRST OF MAY.

One of the Fathers said, “The Christian who only remembers to speak with God when it is the given time for prayer, has not yet learnt how to pray.”
